Dear deviantART...I am refusing to use the rebranded name because, I'm annoyed about the rebrand. I'm annoyed about your direction, your lack of focus in key areas and your lack of communication. I said I'd never be a bitter former staff member, but it seems that I am.More Like This
Last year you spent a lot of money on a rebrand, this year you've cut 50% of your work force, entire departments have been decimated and peoples lives have been thrown upside down without notice. But you never really communicated to anyone why. You still don't, you're not telling the community what's happening and that's only going to hurt you. People will see that helpdesk tickets take longer to get a response, people see that lots of people are no longer staff and you're not letting them know why. You know that people have a belief that the site is dying, you're only furthering it right now. How much of a better state would the site be in if the rebrand hadn't happened? Would I and the rest of the people that lost our jobs without notic

and more discussion about lack of communication.
there was some discussion in the comments about how DA could possibly be broke, with getting $10million in 2013 to keep it the top art website. but after a discussion with a website dev, it's entirely possible for a website to cost millions of collars to host. Similar websites like tumblr and imgur have received 4x and even 100x money in funding.
(but there's also this if you want to read it too.)
any other insight on this topic would be helpfu
What your rights are as an adopt buyer and sellerI've seen a lot of people upset because adopt sellers are changing their ToS. To me it looks as though a lot of buyers and sellers are unaware of their rights and don't know how to protect themselves! So hopefully this will give everyone some insight into what they're entitled to and how to protect your designs/species as a seller and your rights as a buyer.More Like This
A ToS is a legal contract, but you are not always bound to ToS updates
A ToS is a legal contract, even if you don't sign anything! So legally, when you bought the character, any rules that were stated (whether or not you can trade, resell, how much for, traits you're allowed, etc) apply to you. Any new rules that are added (even about resell price) do not apply to you unless you verbally (for example, in a comment) agree to the new rules.
Anything that was said outside of the contract, for example, if the buyer asked if they can print the image on a tshirt, and the seller said yes, applie
PSA: why the 'new copyright law' isn'tHi guys! While I'm looking into the legalities of everything, I thought this could be a helpful PSA.More Like This
I've seen a lot of journals about the proposed 'new copyright law that could destroy everything' and while some of these are informative and useful, a lot are fear mongering and spreading inaccurate information. This needs to stop - if not for the sake of my news feed, then for the sanity of deviantart's every day artist.
There is no new copyright law. There isn't even a bill in front of congress. There is a suggestion, and dozens of things like this are suggested all the time, and very few of them ever actually become laws. There have been, in the past and since the current act, many suggested copyright updates - none of them have passed.
They are simply asking artists for their input. That's it! And most artists are saying 'hell no', so the chances of it passing are even slimmer. Signing petitions can help! Writing letters can help! But telling people 'There's going to be a new
