manga style?it's interesting that sometimes when you submit a manga style drawing to a group on DA that deal with manga, the group staff do not 'recognize' certain styles and remove it.More Like This
I guess many people have their own idea of what "manga style" is; that is, from Japan, or all characters have big eyes and small mouths, or that it is a "cute" style, and so on. I would say that "manga" is none of these specifically. "manga" means comic in Japanese, not really "Japanese comic" or Japanese style specifically, so in theory it could be any style, and it does not even have to come from Japan, since the word refers to sequential art that could include many types. there are manga that are drawn almost photo-realistic. there are chibi styles, and deformed styles... there is cute, not so cute and there is ugly, too. the truth is, there is no hard and fast rule as to what manga style should be. take a look at any collection of manga by different artists and there is so much variation in the way faces are dr
Tips for Starting Commissions I was thinking about my last journal, where I asked why everyone and their cat wanted to sell commissions so badly. I recieved some really insightful answers.More Like This
I also had a lot of people asking me "How much should I charge for my work?"
I'll add a Disclaimer right here in front, as for whatever reason, something always offends someone :iconstunplz: . So I'll start off by saying, this is just my personal journal, and I'm just one person who has some experience with this. I'm not making a judgment on who should sell what, just writing some things I have personally learned along the way.
Well that's out of the way :iconyodawgplz:
So most artists starting off go through a period of confusion on how to price work. They get a lot of suggestions, or theories from well-meaning people such as:
"Artists always undervalue themselves. Don't charge less than minimum wage per hour"
This is true, and I agree. However, unfortunately,

I'm tagged a LOT. So if I never responded, please don't hold it against me, I rarely do these. But today I'm procrastinating lol.
1. Favorite X-men character and why?
Nope o_O. LOL. I'm not much into marvel anything. If I were to pick one though, maybe Wolverine. He's a Canuck.
2. Favorite movie of all time?
The King and the Clown. It's a South Korean film and just beautiful and epic in so many ways. It's funny because usually I HATE drama or romance, but this is a period piece from 11th century Korea where the Emperor falls in love with Gong Gil, a male street performer.
3. Would you want to live forever?
God no . Can you imagine if you couldn't die, but like, horrible aggressive aliens took over the planet, destroyed everything you loved, and just stole you and experimented on you for eternity? D: It COULD HAPPEN.
A Word About Sharing my Artwork Hello :iconyodawgplz:More Like This
EDIT: This is solved
I know I release my work as wallpapers sometimes, but it's starting to be a bit troublesome to me when people post my artwork on this Site: Desktop Nexus.
It's wallpaper site.
You might want to check this Site if you are an artist. Your stuff might be there too. (if it bothers you)
I keep finding my stuff there with watermarks fuzzed out. In this case, when I uploaded my work:
I stupidly, and accidentally uploaded the wrong file for bout 2 hours. It did not have the watermark on it. When I caught on, I swapped the file.
**its also fair to note, that the person that uploaded it did post a link to my gallery. I don't consider this "theft" of any type.
But I really don't want it there. That website is obnoxiously difficult when it comes to filing DMCA's. They don't really have a form for it. So you gotta write them in a "contact" thing, and wait and wait.
Update and Thank youMore Like This
Hey people out there!
I just wanted to take this time to extend a heartfelt, profound thank you to everyone who wrote a comment on my last journal regarding my father (he had a heart attack a few weeks ago).
It was so nice to have a lot of support here. I'm so sorry I couldn't really reply to everyone, but I did read everything :iconsupertighthugplz:
I have just been so crazy busy. My father stayed in hospital for a bit over a week. But he's home now, and feeling ok. And we were super relieved that he somehow did not have to have heart surgery. That was really freaking me out . WHen I would visit with him in the hospital, the room mates with him all had been through it and it looked a bit scary. Though I know it is a very well-tolerated and refined surgery, we all would like for us and our loved ones to avoid such a thing.
They were able to send him for some really modern nuclear scans. And they are treating him with a Nitro patch and some other meds that are supposed t
Is it Me? Or is Deviantart Dying?I was chatting to some art/writing friends online, and it seemed to be something we agreed upon.More Like This
Deviantart seems kinda dead, or like it's dying or something. Or is that just for me ( and the people I've spoken to?). Honestly, I think a lot of the changes they made are responsible.
Disclaimer (because I always need one for some reason). This is my journal. It is my opinion. If you have a different opinion I'd love to hear it. I'm not out to offend anyone (kind of sadly hilarious I have to post these more and more lol ).
I've been here a long time. Well, I suppose I wasn't active for many years. I lived in Japan and Deviantart has no presence there. But then 3.5 years ago I decided to teach myself to paint, so I suddenly became active.
I think a lot of the recent Site Updates to Deviantart have really made things hard for those of us who are serious about artwork ( or maybe everyone?). Usually, it was fairly standard that when you post a new
Great, my favourite group is run by an art thief? It looks like the group :iconart-manga-anime: is not really the group I thought it was.More Like This
I have to say, this is really disappointing. It was the one group that always stood out to me as being a group with good art. I put my deviations into this group all the time, and I never had any problems until I realised that some of my deviations were being ignored. Not accepted, not declined, just left to expire. I didn't let it bother me too much since I liked everything else about the group. But then I noticed that all the comments in the group were being ignored, and many were complaints about the same problem I encountered. Maybe the admin was too busy to reply? Not exactly. They do reply to comments, but only comments that are of some benefit to them, it seemed, like this: http://comments.deviantart.com/4/23312649/3439201962 In this case the commenter was a contributor, making them important, because you don'
My deviantART StoryI'll try not to bore you too much. For those who don't know what this is exactly about, it's my entry for dA's 14th Birthday.More Like This
I joined in 2008. Prior to that, I used to be a member of a fan forum of a 2004 RP game, Sacred. I posted a couple of fan arts there and one of the members recommended dA to me. I had a very bad experience with art websites of this kind - in 2007, I registered on a native (Polish) portal and I got bashed for my drawings so awfully that I stopped drawing anything for more than a year.
Let's have some Sacred fan arts.
But I received some very positive feedback on dA (which I didn't expect), so I decided to stay. It even convinced me to try that Polish art website again, and for some time dA was for me a side interest and I switched to the native portal almost entirely. But I grew tired of it rapidly, mostly because of the not very nice community, and I moved back here for go
