ShadesMore Like This
Throughout recorded history Shades have always coincided with the appearance of a dragon. They are a cursed people, appearing in the aftermath of the catastrophe, grim reminders of the disaster. Any woman who is with child at the time of a dragon attack is susceptible to exposing their unborn child to the corrupting influence of the dragon. If this happens, the child will be transformed into a shade, and bear the mark of the imprinting dragon for the rest of their lives.
Shades are born with poor constitutions and appear sickly and pale compared to their counterparts. Upon reaching puberty, a shade will start to show more apparent signs of their dragon origin. Bones begin to protrude from their skin to form a sort of Chitin-like protection. The exact design of these protrusions will reflect the dragon it is linked to. Many Shades will carve these protruding bones into weapons or decorative ornamentation.
