Winter Flower--Winter--More Like This
A furry, leathery hand nudged me. "Dan, wake up!"
My eyes open half-way. My vision is still blurry after being catapulted from dreamland but my other senses are flooded, sharp as the night before. I can hear birds chirping in the trees. I can also smell them. Other scents waive through my nostrils. The two most familiar that help me snap back into reality quickly belong to my brother and older sister.
I raise my head, lick my lips and rub my eyes. I see the sandy colored fur with the reddish-orange on the tip of my brother's ears and just above his nose. "Jason? Is it morning already?"
I look around and see the orange sky, the yellow radiating from the sun behind Jason.
I frowned at him. "Dude, you woke me this early?"
"Well, we need to eat," he said. "All we had yesterday was just one goat for breakfast."
