The Doll Maker sat in front of the large mirror in his caravan, carefully applying the spirit gum to his face. He waited until it became tacky before adding on the false goatee and sideburns. Within seconds the clean shaven young man took on the appearance of an older, more grizzled version of himself. Movement in the mirror caught his attention, reminding him that he was not alone in the room, and the Doll Maker glanced up. He saw his robotic daughter, Rowena, sitting behind him in her favourite chair, watching. She held her hands in her lap, gently stroking the bronzed wolf skull she carried as though it were a treasured pet.
"Forgive me, my Dear," The Doll Maker said. "Have I been boring you?"
Rowena shook her head.
"No, Father," she answered. "I quite enjoy watching you put on your makeup."
