Isle of Skye, UK
Autumn 2012

With the aim of shooting some Scottish Landscapes in dynamic weather I started my trip to Great Britain in mid-November and traveled for about 5 weeks trough the country. My journey took me from the south coast of England via Northumberland to Scotland. In Scotland I traveled from the Isle of Skye to Caithness, Torridon and Assynt. As expected the weather conditions were very contrary (snow, sun, storm, rain). The exposed position at the Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the unpredictable weather in western Scotland. Often it’s possible to experience several seasons within one day. Although it often wasn’t very easy to keep my camera dry, I was rewarded with a variety of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

In the second part of my UK-series 2013, I present the images of the Isle of Skye. The fascinating hills and the impressive coastline are typical for the Scottish landscape. The weather was as expected at the end of November – very rough. During my ten-day stay there was no day without rain and storm. But in the rare minutes when the sun showed the landscape turned into a fairy tale world and I was spectacular rewarded for the long rainy waiting times. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

It may not be the strongest aurora, but I feel that this is personally one of the best shot I have ever done.
Beautifully clear sky with aurora coming up from behind the mountain.

A starsky captured at Kvænangen in Troms during the late hours of January 15th.
The different lights and shapes you see are ambient light from Oksfjord (a small village), the northern lights and the milky way stretching over the horizon.
The colors are emphasized for artistic purposes.

This is an encore of my previous image. I was heading back to the car as I felt there wasn't anything left to shoot. I turned my head and saw this faint orange glow at the horizon and saw a small area of the shore that was just jagged rocks. Once I got down there I began shooting and saw that the slightly longer exposure picked up more colors than what I had seen. I was delighted to have captured this scene and the colors that appeared. Lesson in life, never leave until it's completely dark!

A lesson learned as to not leave when you think the light is over. It almost is never over. In this case, I waited out some boring light and saw the sky turn pink. I then saw the colors were reflected onto the surface of the water and shot the scene you see here. Using a polarizer really helped bring out the color, but also the rocks beneath the water.

I'm back from my trip finally! It was so beautiful down there and I decided to take this picture at sea with my phone. All the other pictures I took are on my camera and I'm not planning on uploading them right now... But I had fun and now I'm back to stay and be more active in deviantArt. :dummy:

New York City Sunset Around Christmas Weekend 2012.

I've never seen this view before, but really enjoy it. But then I was rushed out of the park because it was getting dark. Apparently Parks in NYC close really early. Managed to get this shot off though, I wouldn't say it is the best I've ever taken, t at least it was at least ok. Desktop size.

Old cemetary behind the church of the Holy Rude and below the castle in the town where I study at. A lot of students don't make it beyond the main shopping streets and nightspots, but a trip up the steep hill to the castle was rewarding for me one Sunday afternoon. Mist and sunshine and one spooky looking graveyard :D

A Japanese Kirin (Qilin). I went for a distinctly more equine look for this one complete with my favourite horsey colouring, dapple. I will definitely make more Kirin in the future since the mythology is so flexible, I see it looking many different ways.

My most recent assignment for my Schoolism course with the lovely and inimitably talented Sam Nielson (:iconartsammich:). I'm actually happy enough with this to post it, so that's something! God I love painting clouds.

Sam does the initial loose linework for each assignment, so credit where credit is due for general mountain/cloud placement. :)

Another great shot at the quarry.

I really like the color of the sky, the contrast.

Was really hard to get a shot without people (we were a 60+ group of people)

Moais are made of the volcanic rocks obtained of the volcan (shot coming soon). There are different believesd around the topic "How do the Rapa Nui people get those rocks wich weight TONS to the places they are?". Some people believe they used trunks, to roll them (that's why some of them would be broken), but the tradition says that Moais move by their own, and that's the reason why sometimes you can't find a Moai which used to be there.

I like more the second one.

This just has to be my favourite photo involving moais. Taken at the Quarry (Cantera).

I wish everyone could go there at least once in their lifes, it's really worth it.

I'll post more pictures involving Moais and Rapa Nui, and hopefully I'll get to write more about them

Lake Bonney , South Australia

This panorama was taken on an evening where the milky way was very low in the sky. I ended up having to change position because of the cloud blowing in over the western horizon but managed to get a series of shots before the weather blew in . It's a panorama of 8 horizontals stitched together. Lake Bonney would be a superb place for further night photography particularly if the waters were dead still.

In the backcountry, sunsets like this often come with a price.

This was taken along the shores of the immense, high alpine Seneca Lake in the Windriver Mountain Range. A few hours earlier we had our hand's full with a raging summer storm. It was putting down buckets of rain and hail, so much so that our tents ended up under 3-4" of water, at one point I looked out my rain-fly to see some of our gear floating! The 5 of us were forced to jump out of our tents in the hail, lightning and thunder mayhem and move each tent to higher ground. Nothing like seeing your fire pit you're hoping to warm you up and dry you off submerged under inches of water! The storm had put enough water down that we had to begin digging trenches to try to divert the pooling water away from our camp.

The clouds above the the temporary peaceful lake were the remnants of that storm.
