I was surprised at the attention this received, being that it was a commission and not something from a series! Thanks for the pleasant surprise, guys! Glad you like it!
I’m kind of digging the modern thing with these characters. Gaara is a perfect fit for the punky goth recluse type, don’t you think? He’d be the secret nerd. Or just slightly better than a Shikamaru – he’s smart but instead of being lazy he just flat out refuses to do homework because it’s beneath him and infuriatingly easy. Like a mockery.
Mmmm…I think I feel some oneshots coming on.
“Could you get that, Gaara? I’m not decent.” Kankuro’s voice echoed from the shared shower.
Gaara rolled his eyes. Witchii’s idle, though. It won’t hurt.

AN: Okay…I think this will do. I had to treat this chapter delicately because it’s the last AND it’s going to connect the endings.
I think I did fine (after I rewrote it, like, FOUR times). My original hesitation stemmed from the fact that this update contains events from the Chunin Exam finals. I don’t want that to be the bulk of the chapter, you know? I want my writing to still be in there.
NOTE: THIS DOES NOT FOLLOW THE “Naruto vs. Gaara” fight to a T. This is my version of it.
This should do. Enjoy! It’s been a fun, fantastic ride, you guys! Much love! Much thanks! I never expected to get this kind of response – in comments, in followers, in ANYTHING -- from this story.
Check back soon for the true ending!
Note two: Hopefully this makes sense. I wrote the majority of it while under the influence of the pain m

You'd just joined team Taka. Sasuke was so serious, far too serious for you. You could barely be around him. You usually stuck by Jugo and Suigetsu. They were so much more like you, but they'd been taken. Your last mission, all but you and Sasuke were taken hostage. You and Sasuke would have to work together for the good of the team this time.
"Alright. I hope you're ready. I'm not going to give you any slack; you'd better know that." Sasuke jumped to the first tree, heading swiftly to the imprisonment cell.
"H-how far is it exactly?" You were anything but an athlete. You didn't even know how you were asked to join. It must've been some sort of streak of luck to survive.
"Stop complaining and well be there sooner than you think. I don't want to hear another peep from you."
"What the HELL did I just say? Shut the hell up. If they hear us, were dead." His veins became more apparent with frustration, he began to perspire. You apologized silently in your own mind. Ju

You'd been in the bombing corporation for a while, working undercover for the Akatsuki. The only member you'd met was Tobi, the one who recruited you. Today, you were going to the first meeting and initiation. You were eager and ready.
You heard from Tobi that his senpai was an artist who was also into bombs. You were the same as him. Everything Tobi had explained appealed to you. You weren't afraid to tell him when you met him, either--you were ready.
You were riding your ninja panther to the rendezvous location and were surprised to see a woman with the cloak also on her.
"I'm Konan, I'll be leading you the rest of the way." Se faded into paper and drifted in a directional path, you followed and hoped to keep up.
"You seem to have arrived in one piece. Tobi has told me all about you. " a man with several odd piercings waved for you to come into the eerie cave.
"There you are!" Tobi waved to you and hugged the leg of your panther. Several other members emerged from the shadows.

[Name] looked up from the book she had been skimming over when she heard the sound of familiar barking. When she saw Akamaru approaching her without Kiba by his side, it had her blinking before she got up in a hurry. She began to worry about the brown haired teen; his dog was never not by his side, no matter what was going on. So had something happened to him?
“Akamaru, what's wrong?”she asked, putting her hand through the soft, white fur atop the huge dogs head. Akamaru barked once more before signaling to her that he wished for her to hop on his back by turning sideways and staring at her expectantly. Sighing, [Name] shut her book and tucked it tight into her pocket before getting on.
Akamaru dashed off through Konoha, causing [Name]'s [length] [color] hair to be ruffled about by the wind. Instead of asking the dog to slow down, she simply held tight onto his fur as he ran. She was more than used to this, since Kiba always made her ride Akamaru whenever they were around.

[Name] knew that any sensible woman wouldn't love the things she loved, the people she loved. They wouldn't do the things that she did for the things and the people that she loved. Countless times, she had lied, cheated and stolen just to be able to feel the perfect arms around her, the perfect voice in her ears as it told her she had done perfectly.
Sighing, she tossed the bloody kunai in her hand down on the ground as she entered the Akatsuki's base. She couldn't say that she really enjoyed the killing, but she enjoyed what it brought her: peace of mind in knowing that it made others happy, which in turn made her happy. But did that even make any sense? Did killing really make anybody happy or did they just leave it at that so all of their problems could be easily solved?
The base was quiet and cold as she entered; it seemed as if everyone else was out doing the same deeds that she had completed not long ago. Stealing, lying and killing. Did an S-ranked criminals life really come dow

In a while now I will feel better
I'll face the weather before me
In a while now I'll race the irony
And buy back each word of my eulogy
Gaara snorted through his nose; the sound was so sharp it threatened to slice his pale nostrils. He tapped the pen angrily against the tiny paper, absently practicing the new rhythm they were all determined to do something with. That was a decent start, but his inspiration was dwindling. The words were evading him. His emotions continued to burn and claw at his sternum.
Writing often helped control his emotions. It was the most harmless of his outlets. And the most productive, considering his situation. But writing felt impossible right now. Gaara could scarcely glean potential lyrics from the carousel of chaos sending his mind into a dizzying frenzy.
Everything leading up to this moment seemed to happen in days instead of months. Sometimes it was a bit much to take. He was only safe on the bus.
