No words can express
The utter glee I feel
As I sit on the ground
And wait for the storm to hit,
Shattering everything in its path

If only man could imitate such things.

The second of my two favourite trees on Lighthouse beach. Well, actually it's a dead tree and a shrub... I shot this back in 2009. Went back this year to the same spot, but the water is much lower now, so the perspective is different now. Comments and critique are appreciated!

Yesterday we visited our hometown Dresden. :)
This is the first picture of this trip. It shows the Terrassenufer in Dresden. On the left you see the academy of arts. In front there is the Semperoper and the Schlosskirche.

Made with Canon Eos 7D and Sigma 10mm.

Taken in: Germany / Dresden

I spent labor day weekend up on the north rim of the grand canyon with a few fellow photographers and got to experience some of the views that are off the beaten path. For the most part, we had the park to ourselves with a few others poking in to the view points. I had the chance to camp along the rim (something I've always wanted to do) and meet some new people. This area is not off the beaten path, in fact, many of you have probably seen images from this location, but for me the real view was inside the canyon. We started our morning at 3am loading up our gear from our first campsite and headed an hour and a half to point imperial hoping for a good sunrise. We got there about an hour before hand and just waited out the light. We didn't get any dramatic light, but some nice skies and views. After about an hour and a half of shooting at this point we headed to cape royal. These were the only two points we reached via paved road. When we arrived it had began raining so we sat in the car for a few minutes as the rain began to lighten up a bit. With the sun already in the sky, I wasn't really expecting anything dramatic. With the on and off rain it was hit or miss or get everything wet. Once the rain finally let up this rainbow appeared from inside the canyon and some soft filtered light painted the canyon floor. This was really the first time I ever got a rainbow on camera that I liked. With a few shots taken, we headed some 22 miles on rough borderline 4x4 roads to our final point and had quite the light show at sunset. It was a grand experience for my first visit to the north rim and surely will not be my last.

"A light exists in spring
Not present on the year
At any other period.
When March is scarcely here

A color stands abroad
On solitary hills
That silence cannot overtake,
But human nature feels."

A spectacular reflection of clouds in a salt maze by the dead sea. Luckily, a rainbow also made an appearance.

_____Random Info
During my stay in Preston earlier this year I drove up to Yorkshire a few times to explore the countryside and as per usual in the UK I was haunted by rain - which didn't keep me from trying though it was demotivating. Luckily I went up to Twistleton on a relatively dry day and on my way passed by some of the famous limestone pavements. My original plan was to hike the Ingleton Waterfalls trail that weekend but due to the massive flooding it was not possible to get any decent shots, so I simply changed routes and went up to to Twistleton Scar.

While shooting the limestone pavements heavy clouds with rain rolled in from the ocean (which lies just a couple of miles west) dissembling the sky and providing me with a nice ominous sky for this black and white shot. Sadly though the rest of my ascent was accompanied by fierce rain and wind keeping me from getting any shots from farther up.

(Apocalyptica, At the Gates of Manala)

Manala or Tuonela is the realm of the dead or the Underworld in Finnish and Estonian mythology.
However, this was taken in the woods near my hometown, Bad Arolsen (Germany).
