MLP - The Crystal Empire - ReviewWell, here we are. It's been a long wait but we're finally here at season three. Let's hope the series manages to stay as entertaining as it's been so far.

Our episode begins in the city of Canterlot, where we see Princess Celestia singing some documents in her throne room. A guard bursts in to inform her that "it" has returned. Shocked by this news, she orders for Princess Cadence and Shining Armour to be brought to her. She begins writing a letter to Twilight and we cut to the opening credits.
After the credits finish we see Twilight in her home preparing for some test that Celestia has set for her. She's clearly stressed about it and despite efforts from her friends, she continues to be tense. Back at Canterlot, Princess Celestia is discussing matters with her sister, Luna, before Twilight arrives. As Luna departs, Celestia informs Twilight that the test she'll b
Review: The Crystal EmpireA lot of people were disappointed with the villain, King Sombra, because he has few appearances, lines, and not much personality. Some are inclined to hate the episodes themselves because of it. But I was not in the least bit disappointed.

It's been said before, but King Sombra was inspired by Sauron from Lord of the Rings. (The title of which, btw, refers to Sauron). Sauron doesn't appear often, and we only see his physical form in the flashback/s to his fingers getting cut off by Isildur. He remains without physical form from the minute we first see him in the present as the Eye of Sauron to the moment in which he is destroyed. We see him a few times in the palantir, and a few times at the top of Barad-dur. He doesn't have many more lines than Sombra, and growls/roars most of the time. At least Sombra DOES speak, his lack of voice in Part 1 led me to believe he wouldn't say anything at all.
