The withered, angry old man stood beneath his creation. He had spent nearly two years constructing the wicker colossus that cast its shadow over him. Entire forests had been leveled in the name of this wretched ritual. But it had to be done. The old hermit didn't care if the entire world had to shed its green hair to fuel his vanity. All he cared about was having this effigy built in his own, solitary presence. Nobody was to interrupt him, nobody was to intrude upon his sacrament. That's why he chose to live in seclusion for so much time, so nobody would bother his work. At the least, a child with a top-floor bedroom in a nearby mansion could just barely glimpse the head of the creation.
