In Thud, Vimes has a near-death experience; therefore, Death has a near-Vimes experience (but don't mind him, he brought a book). I drew this in Corel Painter with white 'chalk' on a black background (like Death's house), I like the effect a lot...

My part of art trade with :iconfernmir:

Mes dieux, i dealyed it waaay too long, trying to write my bachelor's paper (whatever it is called. I just call it "how I wasted a lot of my time which I'll never get back"). But finally I decided that I don't care, I'm almost done with this abomination (I mean my paper of course), and that it's time to finally do something really constructive and satisfying. And here it is. :D
I had a load of fun while doing this art trade, mostly because Meretar is pretty inspiring and interesting character. I love drawing other's OCs, if their owners provide me enough information about character, to play with. And Fernmir definitely did. Also, it's been a while since I did my last digital drawing, so it was rather... refreshing to go back to Photoshop again, with all the possibilities and limitations of digital art.
And steampunk. I really love drawing steampunk.

I really enjoyed drawing Meretar, and I hope that character's owner will like my part of the art trade ^^
Just one question, which I didn't ask and later it was bugging me all the time: what happened to his left arm? O_o

Meretar belongs to :iconfernmir:

Btw... is it really just me, or dwemer coherer from Morrowind actually looked like a blender? I always seen it that way, and it was really hilarious when I went to Lord Fyr and gave him an ancient, dwemer blender as a gift. It was so... Telvanni.

Oh my God, it is done. Why did I work with so much dark colors, I couldn't even see the difference between them at night. But I'm happy it's finished. :iconlazepoolplz: This was my relaxation between storyboards and silly comics?!

God damn, that took forever. XD DRAGONS ARE REALLY HARD TO DRAW GOD DAMN IT.

Soo, this is my Skyrim Nord OC, Ragnhild (I really love that I can pick Norwegian names for my characters, and have it be really in character for nords XDDD) and Odahviing.

When I first met Odahviing in the game, I nearly shat my pants and was like "OMG, PLEASE BE MY DRAGON AFTER I BEAT ALDUIN. PLEASE." And wouldnt you know.. XD My mind went straight to HTTYD. HTTYD SKYRIM STYLE. So I had to draw this. dfjsfnsdf Donno how many times he's saved my butt by now... XD HE'S AWESOME.

Yes. Another one!

This is Nimue. She's only just started out, so I don't have a fancy story for her yet. She's loosely inspired by Bernard Cornwell's "Lady of the Lake" character in The Winter King. Fanart of a custom video game character, based off a novel, based off a legend. Yeah, I totally went there.

This character (again Breton. Duh. What else could a 'Nimue' be?), is almost strictly magic. Tricky, that. I'm gonna start poking around taverns where I can hire a human meat-shield. :| My tender mage body can't handle dragon attacks.

I plan to eventually take her to Markarth and investigate all those Foresworn shenanigans. That's one part of Skyrim plot that I have somehow managed to avoid entirely. (No spoilers, OMG.) Plus, Dwemer stuff is fascinating. Makes me yearn for Morrowind...

Here's a particularly awesome screencap, a semi-sequel to my previous one: [link]. But this is no mere battle, but an interesting ecological phenomenon. Let's look at some trivia:

1. Solstheim is sacred to Hircine; he manifests there at the end of each era to enact the Bloodmoon Prophecy.
2. The island is inhabited by packs of both werewolves and werebears, two versions of "lycanthropes" given power by Hircine.
3. Werebears seem to be stronger than werewolves of comparable level. Hjordis of Frostmoon Crag says her pack was wiped out by werebears. This implies that werewolves and werebears compete with one another. Whether this is for food, territory, or lolz is unknown. However, even when outnumbered, the werebears seem to win.
4. In real life ecology, wolves and bears interact only rarely, much less actually fight. Bears do usually win these confrontations, though it is not unheard of for a wolf pack to bring down a lone grizzly bear.
5. Shelob won this fight, because the laws of nature do not apply to the Dragonborn. B-)

Taken in Skyrim, edited in GIMP. It actually took longer to write that description than to edit the screencap, so now you know what I do when I have an hour or two to spare on weekdays.

Something pulled at the hem of my cloak; and as I turned, thinking to find the elegant cashmere snagged on the remains of a paling, I found that I, too, had been accosted by a lady desperate for food. A very little lady. . .
There, on the pavement, almost indistinguishable against the dirty snow, a cream kitten sat with the claws of her chocolate-coloured paws entangled in the material.

~ Susan Kay's Phantom, page 298

Remember that picture that I did when I was just starting with the computer art? www.deviantart.com/deviation/3… No, probably not... It was rather badly done, and even a bit creepy looking. Anyway, I decided to try again, this time in the form of a photo-manip. Tell me what you think!

I've had lots of questions concerning drawing dragon scales lately, and I figured that with my latest contest going on, a tutorial might be able to help!

Have scales ever intimidated you? Have you ever dreaded fully-scaling your dragon?

Now get ready to grease up and PUNCH THOSE SCALES IN THE FACE--

*ahem*

Heh, sorry about that. But seriously, scales are /nothing in the world/ to be afraid of or uncomfortable with. Honestly, I used to be, until I figured out this method, and have been putting it to good use ever since. You'll notice from my gallery that I prefer the sharp scales and chainmaille-like scales, but as you can see here, there's literally no limit with these techniques.

Now note that this tutorial is based on the technique that I figured out and use - I figured this out with a lot of experimentation and practice, and understand that it may not work for everybody. However, I have found that this is the easiest and nicest way to draw nice-looking scales without making your hand cramp into a twig or make your dragon look like a medieval illumination where every single scale /looks the same/ and is the /same shape and size,/ which is not the case in real life or for a realistic, living critter!

Shading is rudimentary and just there to add some shape/focus. Also, I draw a lot of inspiration from snakes and other reptiles, as well as inanimate objects like rocks, sand, ice, bark, etc... This will obviously depend on the dragon you're drawing. For general dragon scales, check out snakes, lizards, and gators. For elemental dragons, check out a glacier for an ice dragon, igneous rock for a fire dragon, and the texture of trees for a forest dragon. Heck, you could ever use bricks for an industrial, earthy look, or a car engine for a space dragon!

And when you get to the point where you're really comfortable doing the scales, you won't even need to really worry about the guidelines. Anymore, I just rough in some basic muscle shapes and scale right over-top of that. And it takes me...a few minutes. Tops. And I have a hella fun with it.

There are, of course, tons of other things that I could have covered, but didn't here for length's and detail's sake. This is meant to simplify scaling as much as possible. Scaling shouldn't be an all-day process or take up the majority of the time it takes for a single piece. The key? Don't over-think it.

If anything isn't clear, or if anybody has any questions about anything at all, feel free to ask me and I'll answer to the best of my ability. Or, if you have a scaled drawing that you'd like me to take a look at, shoot me a note or link it here and I'll check it out.

Gauntlet image from here: [link]

Hope this helps!
Peace!

Just a very simple tutorial... not even sure if it can be called that. It's really more of a "tips and hints" sheet for very beginnery 3D artists. =P

I hope at least a few find it useful. Maybe I'll do a more in depth one at some point but alas, at the moment, I am astronomically friggin busy. XC
