But it was life in the Underground and life in the Underground is colorless, literally. You could almost physically feel someone applying a sepia-toned filter to your life. There were fairies and sparkles and the fire gang (who sort of frightened you, frankly), and it was all interesting and no day was the same, but everything just looked like clay or something, all grey and beige with maybe some red. Even in the sky; there was no sun, which didn’t necessarily bother you, but there were always clouds, orange ones, and the color was beginning to rattle your nerves.
