Taken in Low wood, which borders Wastwater Lake, in the Wasdale Valley, in Cumbria, England. My first proper viewing of bluebells for 6 years. A lovely woodland circular walk, ending with the classic view down the lake to Great Gable.

Winter 2012

With the aim of shooting some Scottish Landscapes in dynamic weather I started my trip to Great Britain in mid-November and traveled for about 5 weeks trough the country. My journey took me from the south coast of England via Northumberland to Scotland. In Scotland I traveled from the Isle of Skye to Caithness, Torridon and Assynt. As expected the weather conditions were very contrary (snow, sun, storm, rain). The exposed position at the Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the unpredictable weather in western Scotland. Often it’s possible to experience several seasons within one day. Although it often wasn’t very easy to keep my camera dry, I was rewarded with a variety of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

In early December winter comes to northern Scotland. Ice covered the countless lakes and the frequently showers turn into snowfall. In the last part of my UK series I show the shots from Wester Ross. The photos were taken during several hikes in the spectacular mountainous regions An Teallach and Torridon. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

A top-view shot during a true winter day in Godafoss. A truly spectacular waterfall, the waters of the river Skjálfandafljót fall here from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. During winter, the river remains liquid but a wonderful icy crust envelopes the horseshoe-shaped waterfall.
This location is one of the most exciting we'll visit during my 'Winter Paradise' workshop.

Only a few weeks in the year this little lake is filled with water, when the snow on the mountains is melting. With a bit of good luck you can capture the right moment and enjoy this transient piece of heaven.

A sunrise shot from my first morning visiting Yosemite National Park. A beautiful place! The grandeur is amazing! I hope to make it back sometime soon. Thanks for taking a look.

Shows part of the western islands. Shot from a mountain in Vestvaagoy island named as Himmeltind.
The light was fantastic this late afternoon in September.

Taken 4-20-12 of the Kalalau Valley in beautiful Kauai at sunset. This light show only lasted a couple of minutes as the sun dipped right below the clouds and lit up the whole valley just before disappearing on the horizon.

This is my second photograph from my trip to Canada.
I didn't have the time to wait for the sun to fully set, but I think I made the best of it and also managed to give it a unique look, so it differs from all the other photographs taken from this spot.

At Seal Cove (21U 543540.42 m E, 5531775.12 m N) near Bay Verte in Newfoundland. An iceberg across the cove calved and when the wave hit this one it flipped up showing a stunning underside. And as the sun sank...

A foggy day at Cradle Mountain, Tasmania

Just a fictional title for a totally real place.
This is the view that you see hiking up to mount Lagazuoi from Falzarego Pass, Dolomites (Italy).

In the ghostly light of a foggy evening I was walking and observing, observing and walking. The camera always ready to observe with me.
At one point I felt like surrounded by ancient monsters, dead, petrified through the ages, prisoners of time.
Hence the title of the image

A photograph is what we see, but also what we imagine as we observe.

Traversing the edge of the Larkya Glacier towards the Larkya La (5160m, the low point at right). The mountains are the Larkya Himal and the peak right of center is Larke (6249m).
