More DOF fun: JWildfire V0.63 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.63.More Like This
Major new feature are even more DOF controls and the possibility to combine the famous Buddhabrots with flame fractals!
Complete list of changes:
- new parameters "area" and "exponent" for DOF (depth of field). The parameter "area" controls the size of the area with low blur, the parameter "exponent" controls the increase of blur with distance from the focus point
- restored the old method to calculate DOF (before V0.62) and allow to switch between old and new method freely (i. E. all your old flames look as you designed them)
- buddhabrot mode for all "classic fractal" variations (beginning with "fract…")
- "lazyTravis" variation my Michael Faber
- the brightness slider has now its maximum at 20.0 (before this was 10.0)
Just click the "Random flames" button to start playing around and have fun
You can download the new version as always here: http://www.andreas-maschke.com/?page_id=351

DOF fun: JWildfire V0.62 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.62.More Like This
Major new feature is the possiblity to visually specify the focus point for calculating dof (depth of field) effects. So its much more easy to to create fractal images with awesome "depth" effects. There is short tutorial on those new features:
Complete list of changes:
- more accurate calculation of dof (depth of field)
- freely specify the focus point in dof
- special edit mode to specify the focus point visually (by dragging it with the mouse)
- simplified triangle editing modes (move, rotate and scale is one mode and uses the same controls as view editing mode), free point editing is the same as before
- allow to change the camera yaw angle by dragging the mouse in the preview window (hold left and right mouse button)
- mouse view editing: modify camera pitch by dragging the mouse in the vertical (y) direction, modify camera roll by dragging the mouse in the horizontal (x) direction
- "circus" variation my Michael Faber
- FIXED a bug
Background rendering: JWildfire V0.61 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.61.More Like This
Major new feature is the possiblity to cancel the current main render process because it is now running in the background. This was heavily demanded by many users and now it's finally doneOn fast machines you can even continue to design new fractals while rendering.
Complete list of changes:
- the main render function now is a background task which makes it possible to cancel it (currently only for internal renderer) and continue to work while -rendering
- removed the ancient spatial and color oversampling options (all user-defined quality profiles will be removed with this update!, if you face problems with noise use spatial and/or DE filter options)
- new variations originally created by Larry Berlin:
- pRose3D
- ho
- ovoid3d
- fibonacci2
- experimental tree to show flame properties for the dancing flame module
- lots of internal refactoring regarding the dancing flame editor

The need for speed: JWildfire V0.54 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.54.More Like This
Major new feature is the new family of external C++ based renderers called "JWildfireC". They need less memory, are faster than the interal renderer and are optimized for rendering high quality images in acceptable time. Only a few features of JWildfire (e. g. the integrated Java compiler or certain variations) are not available in JWildfireC.
Currently only binaries for Windows 32Bit and Windows 64Bit (faster) are available. The external renderer currently features 222 variations and supports also the generation of HDR images.
Addionatlly, one new rendering option (only available for JWildfireC) is a density estimating filter. In many cases this type of filter helps to improve image quality by smoothing portions with low density and keeping sharp details.
Complete list of changes:
- new family of external C++ based renderers called "JWildfireC" which are integrated into the main program
- density estimating filter for JWildfireC optimized to gain good im
New tools for artists: JWildfire V0.53 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.53.More Like This
Major additions where made to fractal flame editor regarding to controlling image quality at the artist level. There is now an antialiasing option which you can specify at the transform level and some additional powerful gradient manipulation tools.
Complete list of changes:
- new antialising option on the transform level, you can control this by two parameters: amount (how many samples are affected by this effect) and radius (how strong is the antialasing effect)
- new gradient manipulation functions: invert and reverse gradient
- new gradient manipulation properties: blur and frequency
- changed the layout of the main toolbar so that it better resizes according to different screen resolutions
- new built-in script example (based on "Mobius Dragon" by penny5775)
- using multiple threads for tonemapping of the realtime preview which should result in smoother behaviour on most machines
- fixed a bug in the Elliptic variation (now should work like the old *

JWildfire with interactive renderer: V0.43 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.43.More Like This
Major changes where made to the fractal flames generator T.I.N.A. - this time with a complete new feature the interactive renderer. The interactive renderer serves two purposes:
1. Explore random fractals in a really funny way. You can now follow the rendering of a fractal. If you have seen enough just press the NEXT button to get a new randomly generated flame. If you like it you can save it or copy it to the clipboard to tweak it in the main editor. Of course, you can load or paste any (non random) fractal into the interactive renderer.
2. WYSIWYG: Render an image until you are satisfied. Here is no oversampling applied. You can save the image all the time while it still rendering. So you can have a closer look at it to see if its really done, e.g. in a image processing software.
Complete list of changes:
- First "complete" and working version of the interactive renderer
- FIXED: filter radius was always set to high in rendering
- mino
JWildfire V0.41 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.41.More Like This
Major changes where made to the fractal flames generator T.I.N.A.::
- variation effect preview which can be turned on/off using a new button in the preview area. (This preview displays how the superimposition of all variations (of the currently selected transform) affects a rectangular grid of points. So it can be a great way of exploring what a certain variation actually does and how their parameters work.)
- minor improvements to the Flower3D and SubFlame random flame generators
- nBlur, linearT and linearT3D variations by FractalDesire
- post_zscale_wf and post_ztranslate_wf variations for better control of 3D fractals
- optimized coloring of the subflame_wf variation
- new exponent parameter for the spherical3d_wf variation
As usual click the "Random flames" button to start playing around and have fun

Lots of new stuff: JWildfire V0.44 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.44.More Like This
All of the numerous changes belong to the fractal flames generator T.I.N.A. , this release is some kind of "consolidation release". Complete list of changes:
- resolution and quality profiles for the main editor and the interactive renderer
- quality- and resolution-profile-editor
- quality- and resolution-related settings removed from the Preferences-window
- randomize color keyframe position in the random gradient generator to create more interesting gradients
- use gradients of random size in the random flame generators
- "From Editor"/"To Editor" buttons to quick exchanging from fractals between the editor and the interactive renderer
- rudimentary statistics display in the interactive renderer
- automatically clear the screen in the interactive renderer
- the interactive renderer also now respects the quality setting (from the render profile) and does not "overrender" as quickly as before
- take into account the real density while tonemapping an imag

Animation fun: JWildfire V0.45 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.45.More Like This
Major additions where made to the fractal flames generator T.I.N.A. which now features an simple-to-use fractal-movie-editor!
The movie editor is one of the simplest-to-use things on planet Earth You start with just a few mouseclicks and created a movie:
- load or generate a fractal you want to animate in the fractal editor
- press the new "M" button in the fractal editor, the fractal is copied to the JWFMovie Maker
- switch back to editor and load or generate a second fractal you want to animate
- press the new "M" button in the fractal editor again
- Congratulations, you have created your first morphing fractal animation in JWildfire! You could now play with the realtime-preview (slider between the center view or "Play" button) or save it as *.swf file
Complete list of changes:
- created a complete new animation editor on the "JWFMovie Maker" tab (removed the Morph and Animate tabs)
- support for
