The black casket was carried by Mathias, Berwald, Emil, Tino, and Lukas. They walked down to the shore dressed in their finest clothes, towards a small boat they had built. The snow was fresh on the ground, and the wind nipped at their faces, cooling the trails of their tears. Placing the casket into the boat, they waded into the water, leaving their shoes in the boat. They set a loose candle on top of the casket, and lit it in the dark. Soon they would be moving again, as was custom to them. They stood there, knee deep in the freezing ocean water, holding onto the boat, remembering how ‘____’ had gotten into their hearts.
