That's what you can see if you do some summer walk in my region : a huge herd of fluffy sheep grazing on our french volcanoes ( La Chaîne des Puys ).
This late june sunset was quite the perfect moment to capture them and the silhouette of volcanoes in the background, with a beautiful warm light and a nice display of clouds.

Its pretty hard to describe this, and witnessing it was just out of this world.
And also it is extremely rare that the northern lights has so much red-shift to it.

Sorry for posting so much lately, but I could not resist to upload this one, its just the strongest streak of aurora I have ever seen.

Post processing: Contrast +30, shadows -28, whites -12, blacks -5, Clarity +25, noise reduction +25, sharpening +10.
Added unsharp mask for the mountains in the background in photoshop.

Captured this one looking back up the North East Gorge Stream towards Mount Sibbald. Basically it was in the oppposite direction to my last post. The story from that post translates to this shot as well...it was awesome! Its the gift that keeps on giving from one fantastic gentlemen (TimP) and the other 2 crazies (Daz and Dex) that joined in the gift!! I really do love going back and looking through all my shots from that amazing 4 days, as it not only energizes the photography spirit inside of me, it reminds me of great times, great friends and laughs.

Thanks for looking and hope all are well.

Walking along, through a canyon so very far away, a slight bit of light caught my eye. It was gold and soft and beamed from a hole in the canyon wall. My head went in, my eyes went up, and off I went through the rabbit hole...

Comments would be much appreciated. I am not sure if it is too dark or not. I was going for mystery, but I may have just left too little detail.

This is a 12-image composite for focus blending and accurate exposure.

So after a long, fun and adventurous 4 wheel drive, including the crossing of the North East Gorge Stream, we stopped at this location at the north end of Lake Tekapo for Sunset. The mountains were incredible and the feeling was pumped! Found this comp with some hairy little critters sitting in front of me. Something different for a change...no water!

Hope everyone has a smashing weekend.

Les Hauts Plateaux du Vercors is a wild and beautiful place. The signs at the entrance sets the tone: water scarce, map and compass required. I almost get lost last year.

It is a bumpy landscape whose marks are not obvious to identify. It is the reign of the short grass and small typical trees.

Here the Montagnette Summit is trying to get noticed among the mountains and any other bumps while taking the morning light. It seems almost insignificant over there in this beautiful landscape behind this expanse of white flowers.

I went there to do timelapse but the connector of the interferometer dropped me. On the other hand I would not make this picture because it would monopolize the DSLR.

It's been ages since I have been behind a camera. The sunrise/set times disagree with my work hours.

I managed to have a very brief stop at Frog Firle in East Sussex. The river Cuckmere can be seen meandering its way through the valley below.

So how about some unseen Iceland shots to announce my new workshops next year? :)

A wave, rushing back into the ocean, formed countless stripes and a focusing formation on the black beach of Jökulsárlón.
The image was shot during my first (of 2) 'Land of Ice' 2013 workshop- the glacier beach is one of its main features.

If you wish to visit and shoot these awesome locations under my dedicated guidance, please check out my upcoming 'Land of Ice' (south Iceland) and 'Winter Paradise' (northern Iceland) photography workshops next January!

The aurora bursts over Finnbybergan January 2012.
This is a capture I did with my previous camera, a Nikon D7000. I figured out I wanted to go back in time to see if I could salvage something from my earlier captures of the aurora.

Have a nice weekend, everyone, and thank you guys so much for your support :)

Looks like this will be the last aurora shot of the season ( unless some nice solar flare erupts on the sun within the next few days ), been quite a lot of northern lights shots this winter, but on the other hand it has been quite eventful for the avid skychaser. :D

Hope you guys like this.

This was the last morning of our time in New Zealand this year. I wonder when we will be headed back? Perhaps to the North Island next trip . I can look back on our previous 2 years trips with fond memories not only of the landscapes but of charlotte's development.

I love photos with the sun in it, best combined with a dramatic sky. This morning at Fanad Lighthouse in Donegal the conditions were just perfect. I waited more than an hour for this moment and then took many bracketed exposures at different f-stops to get a good sunstar and also to get the rest of the picture sharp and without flares.

Some heavy blending was needed in Photoshop to bring it all together, I recorded a little timelapse of the nearly one hour of exposure blending if you are interested -> [link]

cheers

Woolshed Falls under the Milky Way, Australia. 7th of June 2013

I was driving back from another location last night when I saw the sign for these falls and even though I was already very tired I decided to check them out. I have been to these falls many times before but this was the first time I had been to them at night. I was pleasantly surprised to find the water level low enough to enable me to make my way into the middle of the falls to get a clear view of the Milky Way stretching overhead.

9 image vertical panorma. Longer exposures were used for the three foreground images to bring up more detail in the falls.

The lake only had very small wave activity today but was quite glassy after some rainfall this morning, to top it off high cloud was abundant but some low cloud on the mountains also provided some interesting contrasts.

Shot with my Samyang 8mm fish eye there were some amazing reflections to be had with the wavelets giving some interesting twisting to the them.

There are some dawns that are good, some great, some are just @#$@#$@$ and you stand there wondering if you are really on earth witnessing it.
This was one such dawn which I shared with 2 people beside me doing yoga! Not another photographer around which surprised me. This strange light would fade but lasted well into the morning to the east.

I've also recently finished our NZ trip video (*and sydney) - here's the high res version on youtube!

This picture was taken at the same time and, for sure, at the same place as this this photograph. Normally I doubt with me when it comes to upload a picture of the same place but I think this time it's worth of it (particularly because this is in landscape format). ;)
