That there are those among us
Fidgeting in chairs as I speak these very words
Who read the signs of circumstance
And whisper to themselves "dispair".
They're those who just don't care
What day it is
When the sun comes out
And that there will always be a Spring.
Those who self-sabotage just to feel some relief
A little pity in their veins
And it further disturbs them
Is the only happiness they've ever known.
I know because I've seen the other side of a pretty painted wall.
The side where the paint chips and the dirt sticks
.... Ugly room
Because I've loved a boy who couldn't go a day sober
For when his mind was clear
All he saw was failure.
And he didn't need to break a mirror to see the jagged pieces of his life.
So he'd dope himself up good to convince himself
That he wasn't exactly what he feared.
And because I've loved a family
That's tasted the bitter sting of an ugsome death
