Coffee Shop Rendezvous
More Like This
I have been sitting here for a long time
now, and as others come and go, he stays.
From his pockets he pulls pennies and dimes,
stacking them in little sections, to pay.
As I peer \'round my page that I just read,
he begins stirring his coffee, and tries
to decipher sugar\'s small print that lead
his wrinkled, tired eyes to their blind demise.
He adjusts his tweed jacket while he rests,
exposing his flecked neck and white, thin hair.
The man\'s antique fingertips could suggest
times long gone by, of great joy and despair.
As I shut my book and rise from my seat,
I grin to him, then collect my receipt.
