Washed Ashore Part 22Sunlight slowly lit up the room, in the night their bodies had become entangled. With a groan Kai opened his eyes and yawned, he could feel a warm body next to him and smiled looking over at Elana. He adjusted himself to hold her in his arms, then carefully moved a hair that was in her face.More Like This
'I wish that everyday could be like this... waking up by her side.' he sighed snuggling closer to her. 'I need to stop thinking like that.' he silently scolded himself. 'I can't allow that hope unless I figure out a way for us to be together, without either of us having to make such big sacrifices.'
A few minutes passed before Elana stirred. With a yawn she opened her eyes, in her half sleep state she realized someone was laying next to her. She jumped, grabbed her pillow and threw it at him.
"Forget I was here?" he grinned, finding her reaction entertaining and was happy all she threw was just a pillow.
She blinked as she realized what she had just done and who the man was. "Bless the gods, Kai I
Washed Ashore Part 21Upon entering the cottage Kai and Elana were greeted by Callie. They both barely acknowledged the dog each lost in their own thoughts.More Like This
"I am going to bed." Elana said flatly trying to keep herself calm.
"Alright." Kai responded placing his hand on her shoulder, concerned. She didn't respond and walked toward her room. She opened the door and shut it behind herself. Kai looked down at Callie who was whimpering.
He stroked the top of the dog's head and sighed. He was uncertain of what to do; he was terrified of the information they had received. Kane had found him and had plans to use both himself and Elana. Kai walked near the tub, on a chair was a clean set of clothes. He quickly changed into them, and sat on the chair.
'I'm glad Elana is too upset right now to notice how scared I am. I just wish I could tell her that when this is over there is a chance we can be together. But I won't until I know that potion will work, I don't want to get her hopes up. I just hope Ronan finds out soon
Washed Ashore Part 20As Ronan swam away he did glance over his shoulder at his best friend, before he was out of sight. 'I really wish you luck, you are going to need it.' he thought to himself as he turned his attention back to the direction he was headed.More Like This
Kai had managed to put him in a sour mood and the more Ronan thought of the predicament he was in the more depressed he felt. "Stupid Prince why did he have to go off and do something so stupid that makes even me feel sorry for him." he complained to himself.
"But it makes it so much easier for me." A voice replied causing Ronan to stop and spin around to see the one merman he dreaded running into. "Lord Kane!"
The older merman smiled crookedly, his scales were brown and black and his hair though lined with gray was also brown. "Now tell me Lord Ronan what that little chat was about with our young prince." Kane sneered. While they both were Lords, Ronan was ranked beneath Kane and he never let Ronan forget.
"I don't know what you are talking about Sire.
Washed Ashore Part 19While Kai and Ronan had vanished beneath the waves to continue their conversation in privacy; Elana made herself as comfortable as she could on the rocks and watched the waves crash against them.More Like This
'Why am I being so foolish... I can't think of anyway I could have a real relationship with him. If what my gut tells me is right he's important where he's from and couldn't possibly have the option to give up everything to be with me. It's also not like I can follow him and live in the ocean. I can't breath underwater.' she sighed regretting that the reality of their situation was beginning to sink in.
"I should at least savor every moment I have left with him." she said aloud, trying to reassure herself.
A whinny and the sound of hoof-beats caught her attention as she looked toward the beach. A bay horse was galloping toward the jetty; it's rider wearing a long brown cloak. She jumped to her feet as he slowed his horse to a trot and urged the animal to walk across the narrow boulders of the
Washed Ashore Part 18Meanwhile beneath the waves Kai swam after Ronan, who was already a few hundred yards away from the rocks. "What's going on Kai?" he questioned spinning around to face his friend. "Why did you stop me from talking?"More Like This
Kai looked downwards. "I haven't told her."
Ronan arched his eyebrow. "Told her what? That your a prince?"
He nodded in response. "I've given her a false hope that there is a chance that our relationship could work. But I know no matter what I can't do anything about it, especially when I'm going to be crowned King in a few months."
Ronan sighed. "You really made a mess." he said shaking his head. "But what do you think will happen? It's obvious that you love her and she feels the same. I mean come on, she's got to if she let a big dope like you kiss her." he said with a mischievous grin.
"Hey!" Kai yelled, launched himself at Ronan and pined his friend's arms. "I am not a big dope!" he sneered.
"There's the Kai I know." Ronan smiled, and struggled in Kai's grasp. They both
Washed Ashore Part 17Suddenly Kai and Elana were splashed with water. "Ah!" she shouted jumping to her feet. The laughter started again and she turned to look behind her and saw a head emerge from the water. Elana gasped in shock but realized it must be another merman when she noticed the person was male and had short black hair with piercing green eyes.More Like This
"Ronan!" Kai shouted. "What are you doing here?"
Ronan smiled. "Is that anyway to greet your best friend?" the dark haired man questioned.
"You're right, I'm sorry." Kai apologized.
"I'm just teasing... But tell me, what happened to your tail?" he asked swimming closer to the jetty and pulled himself out of the water onto the boulder.
Elana was in awe having never seen another merperson other than Kai. His chest was bear except for a necklace made of rope that had small green gems woven into it, his skin like Kai's was lightly tanned. Ronan's tail was covered in black scales that had a silver sheen in the moonlight. She noticed he did not have side fins an
Washed Ashore Part 16Elana, Kai and Johnathan made their way to a small building that sat next to the barn. "I know you will have to head home soon so I just wanted to at least show Kai what our weapons look like tonight so we can save some time tomorrow by just skipping to the training." Johnathan explained as slide the door open.More Like This
"That's a good idea." she responded as they walked inside. "Johnathan you have more junk in here than last time." she sighed looking around at scraps of metal, old stirrups irons, saddles and leather that were piled up throughout the building.
"I'm always busy helping out on the farm, and we've gotten a few more horses to train so I don't have a lot of free time. Plus Gramps likes to pile anything the horses break in here saying we'll use it again." he explained removing cloth that was hanging on the wall to reveal a line of metal objects that were leaning against the wall. "Kai if you would come closer, these are the weapons that are more common. Now I don't use or own every ki
Washed Ashore Part 15Johnathan lead the way back to the house, Elana and Kai walked side by side. It was after a few minutes of silence before Kai spoke. "Johnathan is going to show me how to defend myself on land. I would never forgive myself if something were to happen to you and I wasn't able to help." he said taking Elana's hand and squeezed it.More Like This
Elana started to protest but realized that the chances were Kai would be seriously hurt or killed with his lack of knowledge on human weapons. They soon reached the house and could smell the aroma of Lydia's cooking.
They entered and headed to the dinning room. Godric was already seated at the head of the table and Lydia was just placing the last platter of food down on the table. "I was beginning to worry that by the time you three came back the food would be cold." she commented as Johnathan sat next to his Grandfather.
"Sorry we lost track of time." Johnathan explained.
Elana sat in an empty chair across from Johnathan. "Kai you can sit here." she said point
