_____Random Info

After quite a delay mostly due to band stuff and university I finally got around to editing one of the more complex shots from my recent trip to the Saxony Switzerland with JanPusdrowski. This has actually quite a funny back story. This very spot was brought to our attention by a wanderer who told us about it because we looked to her as if we were capable people and knew what we wanted from the sunset in store. So she send her daughter off the beaten path to show us this spot. But the best thing about this was, that during the last half an hour of sun a huge number of tourists were occupying the spot we had in mind previously which would've made shooting increasingly difficult. So she basically saved one of the more memorable sunsets I was able to shot until now. Really like the cloud formations diagonally extending from the sun and the gentle evening light illuminating the foreground.  Hope you like it as well.

_____Edit Info

Whoa, another Daily Deviation, and just after I uploaded the shot. It's always a great honor to receive so much attention and gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Many thanks to lapis-lazuri for suggesting the shot and Anoya for featuring it. And of course thank you to all the people from whom I received critique!

Here is Jan's approach to the scenery: Treasure by JanPusdrowski

Finally got around to edit a new shot. This is a shot of the barren jetties of Carrasqueira, sadly the most impressive pier got destroyed by flood some time ago so these are its remainders.

I hadn't seen a nighttime shot of these piers on DA yet so I figured early mornings blue hour accompanied by the lights of the industrial area on the opposite side of the riverdelta might look good and I wasn't mistaken, as it seems at least. Since SvenMueller and I slept right next to the entrance to the piers we had quite some time exploring the area the night before. Here I went for a rather cold white balance to counter the strong orange cast from the industrial lights which turned out to be the right decision for I really like the purple touch it added.

While standing there on the piers I found it to be intriguing that the container port on the otherside was quite the modern contradiction to the rather old fashioned fishing harbor thus the title.

Photographed at Cherry Creek State park, Colorado. The few short minutes I had with this Mule deer doe was pretty nice, hard to go wrong when mother nature presents you with great light which warms up the scene and makes everything stand out. It also presented me a chance to try out my new Sigma 170-500mm lens, after having used a friends copy this past Fall, I had to buy one with how impressed I was with it. So far, so good! Hope you all like the image as much I do.

A couple days ago here in Denver we had quite an amazing storm roll in. I stood in awe photographing it from Sloan's Lake as the clouds swirled and dance as they came in over the Rockies. I was absolutely amazed at what I was seeing and witnessing, if this had been Spring, I would have fully expected to hear tornado sirens as the convection was amazing. certainly something I would expect to see on the eastern plains and not in Denver in January. This lone park bench though caught my eye and I liked the message it sort of gave when I looked at it in my viewfinder, sort of a place to ponder, think, a calm in the storm if you will. I decided to capture it in HDR which I knew would bring out the atmosphere and the drama in that sky even more.

Photographed on the morning in which the Mayan's said that the world would end, I sat here and thought that if the world was ending, I never would have thought it would be so beautiful. It was as if the sky was pained with a a gigantic paintbrush and I absolutely loved the textures which were playing out on the frozen lake and how Pikes Peak framed the scene. What a morning! Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado.

I bet a lot of you weren't expecting this photograph from me were you? It's been a long time hasn't it? Those of you who are long time DA followers (and I mean LONG time followers will recall I started out with retro photography on here)

Yesterday we had a really nice snowfall here in Denver and I have had this shot in my head for quite some time now. It is kind of crazy how I took it but here goes---This was actually photographed using my HTC One-V. Yes, my Droid. I then went ahead and edited in SnapSeed & Streamzoo. Both apps are wonderful by the way, go grab them (free too!) I then downloaded the photograph and brought it inside Photoshop for some local contrast and curves adjustment and that be about all. I wanted an image that was very true to form as far as retro photography and had a very traditional look & feel about it....a fine line where the textures would look film like but going farther in that it would hint at almost a wet media Polaroid style transfer. I have always been a huge fan of this sort of photography & art, harking back to my days as an illustrator. I am also a very huge proponent of iPhone/Droid photography and firmly believe it is as much as a valid photographic medium as anything else. It is about having the right tool for the job if you will. I think I will make a print of this on some good textured watercolor paper, should look pretty neat! I hope you all like it.

About 640 m raises the steep wall of the Segla, partly overhanging above the Mefjorden and is therefore also called Preikestolen of the north. I had the chance to capture this impressive peak on the island of Senja during a fantastic sunset.

NORWAY 2013
My trip to Norway in 2013 led me from the Lysefjord in the south to the Sunnmøre Alps near Ålesund and finally to the islands of Lofoten and Senja in the north. During the nearly 5 weeks trip I got many good opportunities to photograph the incredible scenery in stunning light. During some hikes in lesser known area, I tried to find a few new scenes. I hope you enjoy the results!

Cuernos del Paine as seen from Lake Pehoe.

I spent 3 days 2 nights in Torres Del Paine National Park. On the second day we stayed at Hosteria Pehoe. A hotel itself is pricy but it is a good location to get around the park. A view from the hotel window was breathtaking.

Shot recently in the local woods under a soft rain. The various autumn colors combined with fog created a very enchanting atmosphere, I enjoyed staying around this old beech tree and his wonderful colors. The forgotten pathway fading in the fog added a nice touch of mystery to the scene.

This is my entry into the contest. I don't expect anything as I've seen some of the entries and they are amazing! Anyhow, the contest did give me an opportunity to think of things.

Description of the image:

The model is the same woman, only it shows two sides. One being predominantly good, with flowers, nature, trees and such, the other of course, predominantly bad, with the snake etc. However, the way I have interpreted the concept of Good Vs Evil is that you cannot have one without the other. There has to be evil in the World to allow us to recognize what is good, and vice versa. Hence the two sides are blended and entwined together. While Volcanos are destructive, they also bring around new life, for example. While rose bushes are beautiful, they are also covered in thorns that can hurt. Just a small part of the entire image.

I'm sure I could write an entire book on my thoughts on this, but I've tried to include as much symbolism as I could to explore my interpretation and you are welcome to take from it, what you wish. I would love to see your thoughts!

Anyhow, painted in PS and Painter, with tablet. As well as photographs - mixed media.

Background comprised with elements and pieces of stock, and painted from references care of (condition free) [link] and royalty free purchases from [link]

The workshop group took an aerial flight to finish the trip. I wanted to fly over Langisjor, a really remote location that very few people ever visit. Next year I will be taking a workshop backpacking along the ridge on the opposite side of the lake.
