EDIT 03/07/13: This piece has been licensed by the BBC! Now available as an official Sherlock print in the BBC Shop, as well as from Big Chief Studios!
Painted this over Livestream in about 4 hours, you can view the full recording at my new Youtube channel. Thank you very much to all who stayed and watched! I have always loved all imagery of Sherlock Holmes playing the violin, I find it very striking and it's one of his most recognizable and interesting character traits. This piece is inspired by BBC's Sherlock series (I cannot possibly recommend this show more!)
Time-lapsed process video can be watched here. Drawn and painted in Adobe Photoshop with a Wacom tablet. Reference from here.
Available to buy as a phone case and other products here.
Hit Download Image on the right for a large wallpaper size! (1500x1000px) EDIT 10/09/13: I have provided this high-res wallpaper as a COURTESY to fellow Sherlock fans, and I expect my work to be treated with respect. Time and time again I have seen art thieves download this painting, PHOTOSHOP OUT MY SIGNATURE, and re-upload it to their own websites as a "free wallpaper," or, even worse, print it as a poster or on a phone case to sell on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, StoreEnvy, etc. It's absolutely ridiculous and disappointing. I'm leaving the wallpaper up because I know most don't do that, but I'm going to say this once again since it's apparently not clear: DO NOT REMOVE MY SIGNATURE FROM THIS ARTWORK FOR ANY REASON . If you see this painting on any of the above sites, please do me a favor and report it. If you see this painting on any products or websites without credit to me, I ask you not to buy it, and JUST REPORT IT. Thank you.
The Cult of Cthulhu is an underground global threat. Different sects inhabit far flung corners of the earth and each identifies itself with differing depictions of the tentacled Great Old One.
“Cthulhu Amulets” are available in two finishes: The crude and voodoo inspired “Swamp Cultist” and the sinister, green metallic “High Priest”. Both come ready to wear or hang on a jute twine (Swamp Cultist) or brown suede (High Priest) cord.

Books, folklore, higher education, chanting, and in fact all methods of imparting knowledge are potentially able to tear a hole in the very fabric of reality, unleashing ancient, mouldering, effuent horrors the very sight of which will drive men mad! Out of what crypt they crawl, I cannot tell, But every night I see the rubbery things, Black, horned, and slender, with membranous wings, They come in legions on the north wind's swell With obscene clutch that titillates and stings, Snatching me off on monstrous voyagings To grey worlds hidden deep in nightmare's well.
Edit: I changed the colors of the background to black red white, instead of the actual german flag which is black red and yellow. See I was only looking at it from a graphic standpoint and the black red yellow looked cool, but I totally ignored the historical and political part of it which was a dingus move on my part lol :s Thank you to the deviants who pointed it out!
I haven't drawn Krystal in years. Not since I was a teenager writing a Star Fox fan fiction (hey, we all have our things to grow out of).
I ended up spending far more time and effort on this than I originally wanted. That tends to happen when I show a mostly-finished linework drawing to my brother and ask him what he thinks. Let's just say I learned a lot about anatomy that day, and that it's evidently never too late to start over.
I tried something new with this one. I started drawing on a 900 x 1200 canvas, then when the first sketch was done I tripled the canvas size and stretched the drawing to fit, so I could zoom in and do more minute details. When the whole thing was done I resized it down to half, in hopes that it would clean up some of the uglier little flaws I didn't fix with an eraser. I'm pretty pleased with the result, and could see using that trick again. I'm sure I just joined a group of thousands of people who have been doing the same exact thing for years, and here I am just finding out about it.
Having posted my work on reddit, I received quite a bit of positive feedback and requests. One that stood out for me was Leona and Pantheon. None of their art seemed to blend well together, so this overall took a great deal of force to look real.
There are times when I look at this and think it looks good, and other times where I think it horrible.
