In the early 90s, there was one fighting game that stood out among others. Capcom soared above the competition with the Street Fighter series following the release of Street Fighter II and many sequels, spinoffs, and crossovers in what is widely regarded as the first major 1-on-1 fighting game.
Of course, rival developers also wanted in on the action, and it wouldn't be long before Midway, now known as Netherealm Studios, joined the battle between the fighting games.
