The Battle in Me: Chapter 11“What do you mean you killed your mother?” There was a momentary flash of something in Liara’s eyes that Shepard couldn’t quite put her finger on. Though only there for a second, it was something that Shepard had never seen directed at her but there was the smallest amount of familiarity behind it. Suddenly the identification of the emotion came to the Commander. It was wariness with the slightest hint of distrust. A pit of emotion opened in Shepard’s gut even though the essence of caution had disappeared in half a heartbeat and was replaced by Liara’s now common expression of concern.More Like This
Shepard swallowed to loosen the lump in her throat before she worked up the courage to speak. Anything to push that memory of the short-lived fear she had created in Liara. “I don’t like to talk about my past. And if I do it’s vague to say the least. You know that I grew up on Earth and that I was part of gang. The leader of a gang. All before I joine
Susannah Not Quite Legendary, Some Notes On MagicOne of the things that The Vestige has taught me is that little excerpts can be used to very effectively set the scene for a chapter or to provide important pieces of information that would otherwise be difficult to introduce. I'm considering adopting a similar approach in Susannah: Not Quite Legendary, with excerpts woven in between the chapters to help flesh out the world involved.More Like This
Today, I'd like to provide you with a glimpse at what one such extract might look like. Keep in mind that this extract isn't in the context it will eventually have when the story is finished. Basically, I'm thinking of putting in between two chapters after Susannah's grandmother orders her to study or face her wrath (and given what Susannah's grandmother is capable of, that's not exactly an idle threat).
So, here's the extract. And

Velvet Scarlatina deals with an onslaught of "combat gear". Hilarity ensues.
"Penny, could you move Blake and Yang's bed over to the corner?" Ruby asks absentmindedly as she rummages behind a collapsable wall for changing clothes.
I stare at the bed. It's standard issue, and they're not so easily moved. "Of course, friend Ruby!" the girl responds with a robotic amount of joy and effortlessly pushes the bed over against the one that Ruby and Weiss share. She immediately calls to Ruby, "Task: Complete!" Gently placing her hands behind her back, she gleams with joy, unblinking.
"Woah." is all I can mutter. "How are you so strong, Penny?" I ask her with genuine curiosity. I'm totally not terrified of the possible answers.
"I am-" She begins.
"Combat ready!" She and Weiss finis

There are two major branches of magic: external magic and internal magic. External magic affects things other than the person casting the magic. Internal magic affects the person casting the magic. Although external and internal magic appear to be quite different, they can still be used to produce similar effects. For instance, magic that slows down everything around the caster would be external magic. However, a similar effect can be achieved using internal magic to vastly increase the speed of the caster.
Within each of these two major branches of magic, there are three main ways in which magic can be used: creation, transformation, and control.
Creation magic is used to create or produce things. The ability to create fire out of nothing more than magical energy is an example of external creation magic. An example of internal creation magic would be someone using their own magic to regrow their own severed limbs or to regenerate their own damaged f

“Bray, go down to the Cargo Bay and make sure my weapon supply has arrived unscathed.”
“Right away Aria. By the way, guards at the docking bay mentioned that Shepard is here and she would like to speak with you.”
“Let her in at the gate once you leave.”
Aria takes a sip of her brandy as she awaits Shepard’s return. The thought of Shepard returning makes Aria pleased. She doesn't realize it but she has a small rosy tint on her cheeks. As Shepard approaches in a slimming black dress, she motions the guards to wait outside.
“Shepard,” Aria smiles, “Welcome back to Omega. Seems the Galaxy can't keep us apart. I thank you once again for helping me take back my empire but I am curious, why is the amazing Commander Jane Shepard on Omega? And all dressed up too.”
Shepard crosses her arms and looks at Aria.
