Liara woke up early that morning. She was alone. Shepard had already spent two weeks away with the Normandy, but would return at some point later in the day. Liara sighed, she was reluctant as to staying alone in these days. Her daughter would be born in less than two months and Liara wanted Shepard to be around. She got up and put only a thin rob

Shepard was on the bridge of the Normandy and was clinging with her hands firmly on her terminal. She was not alone, but she did not notice the others.

Liara walks over to the window and lifts her daughter into her arms so she can get a better look. "That, sweetie, is Samara. She's a good friend of your father and I. She's a justicar."
Rinyn looks up at her mother with a puzzled expression. "What's a justicar?"
"They're an old order of asari warriors. They are proud, noble, and selfless. Actually, they're like the heroes in the stories your dad reads to you."
Rinyn's eyes widen in wonder, her gaze moving back to the justicar. "Wow....she's like a superhero."

Chapter 3 - Downtime
Shepard woke up without a headache for the first time in weeks. I guess those pills really do work! I'll have to thank the doc.
She was just finishing her breakfast when Joker's voice sounded through the ship. "Attention all hands, we have arrived in Citadel space and will be docking shortly."
She looked around at the crew in the mess hall. Ever since the change in plans had been announced the previous night, the mood of the ship had improved immensely. She had also announced extended shore leave for all hands for the next three days. The whole crew was excited for some much needed downtime.

S.A.O.S: Mercier.Breath in, breath out. Feel the stock against my shoulder, the weight of my rifle in my hands. That old familiar feeling of my cheek against the butt. He is dressed nicely for it at least. A mighty fine suit of clothes and a nice tall hat. It is a shame to ruin it. Breath in, breath out. It is a nice view up here, managed to sneak on a navy ship that was standing in parade for the ceremony. This has certainly been in eventful week. The universe seems to have ended and I appear to have over lapped one of my own shadow selves. I shall be honest with myself of all the things that could happen, that was not I expected.
I awoke on Earth in the year of their lord 2005 and apparently I survived the explosion of an omnibus. Considering that moments before I was making peace with my dear and tap dancing lord I guess you can call that an improvement of the situation. Though I was incapable of influencing the minds of others not perform acts of pattern.

This is the start of an endeavour. I have taken to writing a journal. I always wrote one before but they seem somewhat unimportant given my current circumstances. I keep them as a sign of my more naïve times.
Of late I have discovered a number of things. Firstly, that there is more worlds than these. Secondly where is a world known as Amber which is apparently the one true world all others including my beloved England are nothing but Shadows. And thirdly I am apparently a decedent of the royal bloodline of the same world of Amber. Who would have thought that Ed Brown the sweep from Hackney
Genuine Scares in MoviesI'm a horror aficionado in the same way I am a movie aficionado.More Like This
I like the concept of 'horror' more often then I like horror films and I study the art and artifice of the medium more often then I pay patronage to it. Maybe this makes me a snob but I personally think its allowed me to delve pretty deep into what makes a horror movie work and why, wonder of wonders, earlier horror films and a handful of modern ones get it right where so many get it so very wrong.
Horror here is a word I'll use to mean the psychological sensibility: not so much the genre stereotypes. This means that horror will NOT be used as a synonym for movies with gore, movies with psycho killers, movies with demons, movies with violins on the soundtrack, or movies made by self proclaimed horror movie directors.
Horror to me means thrilling, not merely shocking. Stirring, not merely sickening.
Horror to me means atmosphere over slick visuals and it means suspense over telegraphed moments so painfully tailored to be h

Consider yourself warned...
As you may know (and trust me it's a surprise to me more then anyone) I actually really enjoyed Lauren Faust's re-imagining of the My Little Pony series, although that like came slowly and reluctantly.
The reason was that the trappings of the show were clearly geared in large part towards a demographic I do not encompass. I am neither pre-teen nor a girl and the combination of colors and 'cute' elements all skewed towards attracting that age group and gender. It might seem that I'm the one being stereotypical but the truth is that marketing companies oftentimes utilize specific aesthetic to supposedly reel in viewers of a certain distinction. This might not always work but when it does its assumed to be a success on behalf of the brand.
However to me Friendship is Magic at times reached beyond this arbitrary line. There were inside jokes tailored tow

Secondly, here's a little more about me being critical about stories and such, but hopefully its directed at improving the overall quality of storytelling and the satisfaction of fiction.
Case in point: the almost inevitable Final Confrontation.
SPOILERS for various films may be incoming given the journal's nature. Fair warning.
The hero and villain have worked their way through trials and tribulations aplenty on both sides (setbacks for the villain more likely, obstacles for the hero) and now the opposite numbers square off at last for the epic showdown. The arena can be anything from a courtroom to a battlefield. The contestants can be elite squad, ordinary individuals, entire armies, or mano-a-mano between our hero or anti-hero and the big boss of the opposition.
So...now what?
This is more of a problem then it first appears. What people don't consider often enough is that stories BEFORE there's have been told so the audience of this

"Small time" gangs controlled the streets, creating anarchy. But within the Organized Crime, five groups vie for complete power over Trinity Bay. E

The first one to notice when Vanille and Hope's friendship took a turn toward the romantic wasn't Fang or Lightning. It wasn't even Serah, despite the fact that Vanille spent at least a few hours each week at the pink haired woman's house gossiping while Claire and Snow quietly snuck ice cream out of the fridge (the ice cream always tasted better that way).
