The Aurora Borealis, together with the milky way, created this amazing sight.
To my eyes, it looked like a bow and an arrow, ready to fire.

If you'd like to experience and shoot these amazing sceneries, along with many other incredible icy landscapes, and do so under my dedicated guidance, you're welcome to join my upcoming 'Land of Ice' Iceland winter workshop taking place January 2013. The workshop is co-guided by renowned local Icelandic mountaineer and pro photographer Skarphedinn Thrainsson, and it will bring you to the most amazing locations for landscape photography in south Iceland. The rapidly-changing northern lights show had given us a huge variety of forms, among which these immense parallel lines. The scale of this is truly hard to grasp.

If you'd like to experience and shoot this awesome natural phenomenon under my dedicated guidance, please check out my upcoming 'Land of Ice' (south Iceland) and 'Winter Paradise' (northern Iceland) photography workshops next January.

Aurora Australis and a Burning Tree, Tasmania, 19/20th of May, 2013

On the way to the location where I shot my images "Tranquility" and "Iris" we came across this tree burning in the middle of a field. We took some photos of it under the moonlight and then continued on. After the fog forced us to leave Oatlands we came back to the tree but by this time the moon had set to reveal the aurora in all its beauty. Foreground is lit from the lights of a passing truck.

Long exposure with the moonlight reflecting in the water and the aurora in the sand, the slight halo above was a nice bonus.

Missed out on most of the auroras the last few days due to clouds and snow, but managed to get clear skies yesterday (20.02) to capture this.
Had to walk through waistdeep snow to get to this hillside, almost got stuch on the way down, but it was certainly worth it. :hooray:

100 meters behind this beautiful lake is the road that goes over Sørkjosen mountain ( Troms, Northern Norway), so this is quite an easy place to access.

I shot this image not long after I had shot "La vie est belle", this is when the sky has gone proper dark it is one shot of many in a timelapse sequence a friend and I made called  "Sixth Element" -> vimeo.com/79902085

This shot may cost me my iphone 4S, if Apple does not replace it, and my D300 body if the service cannot repair...With a photographer friend, we were shooting the waves and surfers from top of a rock close to this view. A big wave like in the photo came and knocked us both out. My friend went down from the rock and lost his Canon 7D and 100-400 mm lens in the water...Luckily we did not get injured or died there...

That was a great lesson. To be adventurist is cool and sometimes necessary to make good shots, but one should really pay attention to security issues.

p.s. place the camera strap alway around the neck even if it is on a tripod. I save my camera and lens at least from getting lost in the water but my friend could not because he did not have the strap secured...

p.s.s. Apple gave me a free replacement :) they were nice...And I paid $320 to Nikon to fix my D300, which is better than buying a new camera :)

Started pretty nicely when it became dark but the calmed dramaticly and it was looking grim for getting some good auroras, but as soon as it started to brighten the aurora really flared up, so the night turned pretty awesome in a few minutes. :)

I stumbled upon this location last year when out capturing some aurora photography, It took a few images before the resemblances of a heart shape appeared, however slight it is.

Had quite the display of northern lights here last night, and I was totally surprised by it; ignoring my phone as I was at a family dinner, so didn't hear any aurora alerts go off. When we stepped out to leave, I saw the glow...and then suddenly, the sky was flashing and pulsing - unlike anything I've seen this far south. It was so cool. Anyway, I used the ten second timer as per usual for this shot of myself and Brandon. Used a cell phone flashlight for lighting on us, propped up against a weed. The camera was, of course, on a tripod.

DeviantArt Road Trip: Dubai

Thu Mar 26, 2015, 4:28 PM
Img-00 by techgnotic

An uber modern city that grew from a tiny Arab fishing and pearl-trading village to become one of the world’s leading commercial and residential destinations.

The emirate of Dubai has the largest population in the United Arab Emirates — there are seven emirates in total. The largest emirate is Abu Dhabi, the capital. It is also famous for its many man made islands, one even reclaimed from the sea to look like a map of the globe.

Like most of the largest cities around the world, Dubai relies heavily on immigrants to build and work in this continually expanding metropolis.

Within this city of dazzling skyscrapers, mega malls, world-class restaurants and lavish lifestyles, dwells a large number of expatriates (expats, or ex-pats), people young and old, from multiple nations and a myriad of backgrounds who came to this tiny emirate looking for well-paying and secure jobs under the lure of living a ‘tax-free’ life.

However, a majority of expats are unable to fulfill this dream due to ever increasing rents and high cost of living, making it more and more difficult to send money back home to their families.

But life goes on and people learn to make do, as this collection of photographs by MARX77 highlights the lives of those who live in the shadows of this modern day utopia.

Your Thoughts

Bondleigh house
South Australia

Last month, during the Perseid showers, the night sky coincided with a favourable moonset. This allowed some star images even without the presence of the meteors. This image was taken in near darkness as a panorama of 14 vertical images. Another image was taken after the 14 frames at a lower iso and longer exposure to allow me to light the interior of the house.

Image capture late on 09.01 in wainting for the x-flare to ignite some auroras, unfortunately the impact was a lot weaker than anticipated but I think I got away with a couple of good ones.
Was a nice -17 degrees C, so started to feel it after a few hours. :D
Did some minor retouching to bring forth the milky way.
