Somewhere northeast of Highway 5...good times! One of the coolest manifestations of aurora I have seen.

DD! Dang!! Thank you so much everyone! When I can, I will answer some common questions here, such as....

Is this a photograph?

YES it is a photograph. It hasn't really been touched from the .raw file...One curves adjustment after a minor color correction.

Where is this?

About 50 Km from Fort Resolution on Highway 6 in the Northwest Territories, Canada.

Edit - Now Available as Print! ;)

Long exposure with the moonlight reflecting in the water and the aurora in the sand, the slight halo above was a nice bonus.

Missed out on most of the auroras the last few days due to clouds and snow, but managed to get clear skies yesterday (20.02) to capture this.
Had to walk through waistdeep snow to get to this hillside, almost got stuch on the way down, but it was certainly worth it. :hooray:

That figure on the right side is my brother furiously searching the beach for his lenscap :D
Luckily we did find it and he also managed to get a couple of shot of this amazingly strong aurora flare which lasted no more than 10 minutes from start to finish.

100 meters behind this beautiful lake is the road that goes over Sørkjosen mountain ( Troms, Northern Norway), so this is quite an easy place to access.

I shot this image not long after I had shot "La vie est belle", this is when the sky has gone proper dark it is one shot of many in a timelapse sequence a friend and I made called  "Sixth Element" -> vimeo.com/79902085

This shot may cost me my iphone 4S, if Apple does not replace it, and my D300 body if the service cannot repair...With a photographer friend, we were shooting the waves and surfers from top of a rock close to this view. A big wave like in the photo came and knocked us both out. My friend went down from the rock and lost his Canon 7D and 100-400 mm lens in the water...Luckily we did not get injured or died there...

That was a great lesson. To be adventurist is cool and sometimes necessary to make good shots, but one should really pay attention to security issues.

p.s. place the camera strap alway around the neck even if it is on a tripod. I save my camera and lens at least from getting lost in the water but my friend could not because he did not have the strap secured...

p.s.s. Apple gave me a free replacement :) they were nice...And I paid $320 to Nikon to fix my D300, which is better than buying a new camera :)

Okay, this one I'm really proud of. This is a tiny black eyed susan in my backyard that I keep walking past, and I finally got a good shot of it. Before I had been photographing above it, but I tried getting a different angle, and the light from the sunset hit it just right to highlight the edges. One of my favorite shots so far :)

Image capture late on 09.01 in wainting for the x-flare to ignite some auroras, unfortunately the impact was a lot weaker than anticipated but I think I got away with a couple of good ones.
Was a nice -17 degrees C, so started to feel it after a few hours. :D
Did some minor retouching to bring forth the milky way.

Hope you like this. :)

Kirkjufell, Iceland

Aurora Borealis over the famous Kirkjufell peak outside of Grundarfjordur, Iceland. The skies cleared up just in time to view the aurora for an hour or so. I loved this town and wish we could've stayed longer. Hopefully next time!

I was not too happy with the composition I was getting shooting towards the aurora but looking at everything as a whole the mountain looked like an arrow fired into space, so I shot this as a panorama instead.

After 4 days out every night photographing the aurora this night felt like the finale of all, the fastest and most intense aurora display I have seen since I started photographing the aurora.
In photographic terms this is exposed for only 2.5 seconds at iso 1600 and  f/2.8 and it is almost overexposed.

Image captured in Nordreisa, Troms, Northern Norway.

I tried to stay as true to as I saw this as I could, the aurora was so amazing that it did not need anything extra.
It is quite rare I see the aurora turn back on itself before moving on, but everytime It has happened it has always been a very powerful display.

Dusk over Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, New Zealand's highest mountains.

Heavy rain for weeks in Glacier Country and still counting.
Only a little window of sun this afternoon so I packed my gear and headed off to Lake Matheson to take this photo I've been thinking of since I moved down here.
10 minutes after this shot, the clouds rolled back in.
I'll be back as soon as I can get a true night sky shot in this stunning scenery.
