The Aurora Borealis, together with the milky way, created this amazing sight.
To my eyes, it looked like a bow and an arrow, ready to fire.

The rapidly-changing northern lights show had given us a huge variety of forms, among which these immense parallel lines. The scale of this is truly hard to grasp.

If you'd like to experience and shoot this awesome natural phenomenon under my dedicated guidance, please check out my upcoming 'Land of Ice' (south Iceland) and 'Winter Paradise' (northern Iceland) photography workshops next January.

This shot may cost me my iphone 4S, if Apple does not replace it, and my D300 body if the service cannot repair...With a photographer friend, we were shooting the waves and surfers from top of a rock close to this view. A big wave like in the photo came and knocked us both out. My friend went down from the rock and lost his Canon 7D and 100-400 mm lens in the water...Luckily we did not get injured or died there...

That was a great lesson. To be adventurist is cool and sometimes necessary to make good shots, but one should really pay attention to security issues.

p.s. place the camera strap alway around the neck even if it is on a tripod. I save my camera and lens at least from getting lost in the water but my friend could not because he did not have the strap secured...

p.s.s. Apple gave me a free replacement :) they were nice...And I paid $320 to Nikon to fix my D300, which is better than buying a new camera :)

Last night was the most stunning display of Aurora I've ever seen in the Shuswap. Normally, you have to let your eyes adjust to the dark, and then you think you see something, so you do a bit of a longer exposure and the camera really shows you what's going on. Last night, this photo shows what my eyes saw. It's rare to have shows like this, this far south in Canada, and I'm glad I managed to get out briefly to watch.
I even managed to accidentally smash my camera into the mud, but it seems to be fine.

Another frame stolen from a time lapse clip of mine, pre-winter 2010. I miss the sandbars of the Slave. I will definitely have to get more aurora-waterscapes when the ice melts, and I'll have to muck around in the sand because that's my favorite part :D

Went to Iceland for a week to see the country and hopefully catch sight of the northern lights. I visited about 4 years ago and caught a small glimpse of the northern lights, so I was understandably hoping I would see them (and see them better) than last time.

What actually ended up happening was completely unexpected and exceeded my wildest hopes. On the one clear night, I just happened to be a wonderful part of the country for the largest solar storm in 12 years.

I spent a few hours staring up at the sky watching the northern lights sway and dance across the sky. And although I don't have the fastest lenses, it was more than strong enough to allow me to capture most of them at ISO 1600, hopefully making these clean enough to sell as large prints.

So, this is one of the more spectacular images I captured, but there are certainly more coming!

Image capture late on 09.01 in wainting for the x-flare to ignite some auroras, unfortunately the impact was a lot weaker than anticipated but I think I got away with a couple of good ones.
Was a nice -17 degrees C, so started to feel it after a few hours. :D
Did some minor retouching to bring forth the milky way.

Hope you like this. :)

Finaly that break caught, the aurora has been really weak for over a month and just lately it has picked up, and super great that it was not as cloudy as yesterday.

Shot on a mountain called Kvænangsfjellet, near this summer open diner called Gildetun, and on a sidenote I have never seen so many stars so clearly as today.

Had to get up the mountain in time to catch the orange/yellow moon rising, went up a bit ahead so I had time to shoot a short time-lapse before the rise of the moon.

This shot turned out way better than I had pictured it to be, I feel this is the best shot i have taken so far.

DeviantArt Road Trip: Dubai

Thu Mar 26, 2015, 4:28 PM
Img-00 by techgnotic

An uber modern city that grew from a tiny Arab fishing and pearl-trading village to become one of the world’s leading commercial and residential destinations.

The emirate of Dubai has the largest population in the United Arab Emirates — there are seven emirates in total. The largest emirate is Abu Dhabi, the capital. It is also famous for its many man made islands, one even reclaimed from the sea to look like a map of the globe.

Like most of the largest cities around the world, Dubai relies heavily on immigrants to build and work in this continually expanding metropolis.

Within this city of dazzling skyscrapers, mega malls, world-class restaurants and lavish lifestyles, dwells a large number of expatriates (expats, or ex-pats), people young and old, from multiple nations and a myriad of backgrounds who came to this tiny emirate looking for well-paying and secure jobs under the lure of living a ‘tax-free’ life.

However, a majority of expats are unable to fulfill this dream due to ever increasing rents and high cost of living, making it more and more difficult to send money back home to their families.

But life goes on and people learn to make do, as this collection of photographs by MARX77 highlights the lives of those who live in the shadows of this modern day utopia.

Your Thoughts

Bondleigh house
South Australia

Last month, during the Perseid showers, the night sky coincided with a favourable moonset. This allowed some star images even without the presence of the meteors. This image was taken in near darkness as a panorama of 14 vertical images. Another image was taken after the 14 frames at a lower iso and longer exposure to allow me to light the interior of the house.

This is why I go up the mountain every day, and it makes things more fun when able to capture such cool shapes within the aurora.

Oh an may i add, it has been some heavy days lately, have to dress for standing still, which means when moving up a mountain with all the camera gear it is quite hard. :D
But it is all worth it for a shot like this, I am very proud of this cause I feel I was finaly able to capture the aurora where it speaks for itself with almost no foreground help. :)

For the post processing: contrast +30, clarity +32, lower by 300 temp to bring forth the stars, increased whites and blacks by a smidge, reduced the purple saturation a tad, lens correction.
Used hyperfocal distance to get everything in focus, so wasnt much need for sharpening really, but added some to it.
