Saying good-bye to Edna Krabappel...I awoke from my "Night's sleep" today to find out that the woman who voiced Edna Krabappel on the Simpsons has died. This really hit me as I've spent the last month writing a three-part Treehouse of Horror where Edna is a major character. I'm not a big fan of many people in the entertainment business, but these voice actors literally make my world go around. I'm sure inside the Simpsons family that this loss really hits hard, and I myself have admired this woman's talent for years. I'm 50 years old, and have admired Marcia Wallace's talent long before their was a Simpsons show on TV. In the early 1970's she was Bob Newhart's bubbly tall red-headed secretary on the Bob Newhart show, who always had a humorous quip for him. Edna Krabappel is Bart Simpson's fourth grade teacher. She worked at Springfield Elementary school for the entirety of her run on the series. She portrays the teacher that doesn't care at all about teaching proper education to the children anymore.
Outside school Edna is portrayed as a typical mid-life single adult, heavy smoker and occasional solitary drinker trying to find the right man. That is, until she married Ned Flanders in Season 23.
