A near full moon rises above the towering peaks of the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah. This was a case of being in the right place at the right time. A long hike on the trail of wildlife led me to this overlook just in time for this amazing scene.

I quickly changed my set-up and switched into "landscape mode" when the light started to look promising. I hope you enjoy!

SWITZERLAND, Bernina

After numerous arduous hikes during the last 4 weeks I'm proud to present a lot of new work. I traveled through the Eastern Alps: from Switzerland to South Tyrol and the Dolomites to Slovenia. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. The first part of the series shows the Swiss canton Graubünden where I shot Bergell, Val Roseg and Val Bernina. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

Côte d'Opale, France
Autumn 2012

With the aim of shooting some Scottish Landscapes in dynamic weather I started my trip to Great Britain in mid-November and traveled for about 5 weeks trough the country. My journey took me from the south coast of England via Northumberland to Scotland. In Scotland I traveled from the Isle of Skye to Caithness, Torridon and Assynt. As expected the weather conditions were very contrary (snow, sun, storm, rain). The exposed position at the Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the unpredictable weather in western Scotland. Often it’s possible to experience several seasons within one day. Although it often wasn’t very easy to keep my camera dry, I was rewarded with a variety of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

The first part of my UK series shows images of the chalk cliffs in southern England, and Calais and castles in Northumberland. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

The third part of the UK-2012 series shows the northern end of Great Britain, with its spectacular cliffs and the lonely landscape of Inverpolly Nature Reserve. On a starry night at Dunnet Head I had the chance to shot auroras for the first time. The view from the almost 100 m high cliffs to the nearby Orkney Islands and the play of colors in the sky will remain in my memory for long. In Inverpolly I was less fortunate with the weather and had only an extreme rare time seeing the impressive landscape without low-hanging rain clouds. But I will definitively return to that great place. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

"We live on a hunk of rock and metal that circles a humdrum star that is one of 400 billion other stars that make up the Milky Way Galaxy which is one of billions of other galaxies which make up a universe which may be one of a very large number, perhaps an infinite number, of other universes. That is a perspective on human life and our culture that is well worth pondering."

I shot this sunset pano at the Praia da Cordoama, near Vila do Bispo and Sagres in Portugal.

I really love this coastline, itŽs windy and harsh- but with a bit of luck the light getŽs really wonderful :)

This image for me is special- it was shot at christmas 2012, after getting this shot we went on and had a great evening.
Sometimes everything goes the way it goes :)

To use filters on Nikons 14-24 2.8 i use the Lucroit system (www.lucroit.com), which is really great- to get the full potential from this lovely lens.

Planning the trip to the Iberian Peninsula for this year I talked to ~emats about whether we had some shots from last year that we for any reason did not edit yet, so I browsed through the shots again and found this piece. It was our first evening at the Almograve and it was rather warm even during the sundown so we went barefoot through the dunes down to this beach which was a little further away from the rest of the more known beaches of the area since we had scouted beforehand that there were some interesting rocks and even a little creek. Although it was quite though to decided what composition I wanted to go for during this low tide since there was so much to take into consideration the little brook somehow felt like a more interesting foreground than the sandy beach with a couple of stones swept in by the surge. I'm pretty content with the composition at hand. Also I tried to try a little different approach for the editing going for a colder white balance since the water was indeed still pretty cold and the colors weren't really warm to begin with. I hope you like the outcome.

The rock pillars of Meteora (not the Linkin Park album)

"The Metéora (Greek: Μετέωρα, "suspended rocks", "suspended in the air" or "in the heavens above") is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece." ~ from wiki

Our first sunset the first afternoon we got there and I guess the only decent sunset we had the five days we were there.

This is a nine vertical shot panorama of the place

Hope you like it.

Dusk. Lindy Point. Blackwater Falls State Park.

My first visit out to West Virginia in quite a few years, and probably my first real trip out to West Virginia with a focus on photography. My trip was centered around Blackwater Falls State Park and the Dolly Sods area. I knew there was a few locations I absolutely wanted to visit, and this particular location, Lindy Point, was first on the list.

Having seen some excellent photos taken from this spot, especially around sunset, I was hoping that my one evening there would be a good one. Unfortunately, as seems to be my luck lately, that was not to be the case. Partly cloudy conditions later in the afternoon turned into an almost cloudless sky by golden hour and I was left with little interest and light that could have been much better.

However, right around when the sun finally set, and shortly after, a few clouds appeared on the horizon in the direction I was shooting, giving some much needed color to a quickly darkening scene.

Met quite a few other photographers there also waiting for the sunset, and had some great conversations. Gotta love meeting others that share the same passion for photography.

So, here is my take on the Lindy Point sunset scene, with my personal interpretation as usual. Enjoy!

Technical details for those interested: Originally bracketed this shot as 5 separate exposures. Chose two to work with, a 0.4s exposure for the sky, and a 4s exposure for the ground. RAW Conversion performed, then the two images were blended with a technique utilizing the blend if sliders. Color and contrast adjusted with a touch of my usual style.

Monsters and beasts of Norwegian lore breath in the mist. Frightened leaves nip at the rain. The weather is changing.

I learned that this is a very unusual shot for the reason that, this location has millions of visitors annually. Yet when I was there, for 3 days, I saw only 1 person. I camped right on the side of the road and had this whole wonderland to myself. I revisited a week later and yes, there were people absolutely everywhere.

This is an image I forgot to post from my 2010 trip to Norway.

This is a detail of Lake Rosset, Gran Paradiso National Park (Italy).
Being located at 2,700 meters altitude, on June 9th 2011 it was still partially frozen, fortuitously presenting many lovely alternated sections of ice, snow and water.
Ice and snow were obviously still, while the water was moving a bit. So I've tried to achieve a general aspect of seraphic immobility, setting a bit long exposure, thanks to the most feeble light at sunset, in order to get water as soft as possible.
The end result is a kind of totally natural abstract.

Bohemian Switzerland, Czech Republic

This photo of the picturesque Edmundsklamm in the Bohemian Switzerland I have taken about a week ago. Since then it has almost constantly rained in flow and the flood situation gets dramatic. (daily up to 30 liters per square meter). I hope the damage will remain in a manageable size!

A three-image stitch of this famous location. The friend with whom I was visiting this location with grew bored, so I was unable to wait for better light, unfortunately. Still, the details are good, and the scene itself is interesting enough. The effective resolution of the mosaic (cropped vertically) is right around 100Mp.

Les Hauts Plateaux du Vercors is a wild and beautiful place. The signs at the entrance sets the tone: water scarce, map and compass required. I almost get lost last year.

It is a bumpy landscape whose marks are not obvious to identify. It is the reign of the short grass and small typical trees.

Here the Montagnette Summit is trying to get noticed among the mountains and any other bumps while taking the morning light. It seems almost insignificant over there in this beautiful landscape behind this expanse of white flowers.

I went there to do timelapse but the connector of the interferometer dropped me. On the other hand I would not make this picture because it would monopolize the DSLR.

This late june sunset was quite the perfect moment to capture them and the silhouette of volcanoes in the background, with a beautiful warm light and a nice display of clouds.

After spending all of my first evening shooting this area, I kept shooting until the wee hours of the morning. This shot occurred before the full moon rose above the horizon and took away the clarity of the stars. This is a two shot blend. One is of the stars, the other of the foreground. For the foreground I used a headlamp to light paint for proper exposure. I tried to shoot a 35 min exposure, but it wasn't quite long enough. Also, the fact that there was another photographer there with me really limited the amount of times I could shoot that long of a shot without being in his way.

I've previsualized this shot for a long time and would love to redo it and better it. But I'm pretty pleased with this one for my first!
