This edition, our first, requires a little background:
XtremeFractals has attracted an impressive list of talented Contributors. The concept is to ask them to be interviewed - answer questions and comment on - fractals - of course!
I am happy to say that this idea has been met enthusiastically - I am scheduling future interviews now. I also thought it a good opportunity that I be the first interviewee - to work out the kinks and also formally introduce myself here at Xtreme.
I encourage everyone to continue the discussion by asking follow-up questions in the comments. At the end of this journal I'll identify the next scheduled Contributor to be interviewed - please send in questions for them.

Wings3d 1.5.3 (the last stable for a while)It's still named "Development Release" in the download page, but it's already the final one. Dan announced it as a New Release yesterday.More Like This
This release should be "probably the last stable for a while." - in Dan's words since he wants be focused on new things:
"[...] So we can focus on new things, the gui for example and get rid some old
opengl code such as display lists to save memory and so on."
So, it's time to update your version (just recalling that many different wings versions can coexists).
In the download page look for Development Release 1.5.3
What was fixed
- Use (and require) OTP 17.0 which hopefully fixes unicode issues on win32.
- Fix OpenCL so that it works on nvidia cards even though it's built with a 1.2 framework.
