"Are you leaving now?" You asked quietly as you sat on the edge of your bed.
"Yeah. I'll be back later, just going to hang out with Clint and Rhodey, maybe Steve too." He said absentmindedly as he walked around the room, fixing his clothes and hair and whatnot.
You watched as he moved about, your heart breaking. It'd been this way for a long time now. He'd go out every night, get drunk, sleep with a woman or two, then come home.
He always came back home.
It broke you in two that you couldn't make him happy anymore. There was no doubt in your mind he took off his wedding ring the second he stepped foot in the car. You also knew that he put it on the second he left the house of the last woman he slept with that night.
You were always awake when he came back, you just pretended you were asleep. He'd shower, then slide into bed behind you, wrapping his arms carefully around you as if you'd break, and then kiss the back of your neck, murmuring, "I love you."
