Story behind the video:
This video outlines the story of a man who awakens standing in his home, holding a pistol. He finds the body of a dead woman, and realizing that it is his wife, vows to kill whoever murdered her. Throughout the course of the video, he discovers that he himself was the murderer, his alternate personality forcibly recalling the memories of the scene, which he had repressed. The final scene of the video represents the ultimate realization of his actions as his collective conscience forces him down the hall to accept what he's done.

Not as cute as Hello kitty but this caterpillar do has its own charm :)
Taken at night in Singapore forest.

Quote en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caterpil…
Caterpillars have soft bodies that can grow rapidly between moults. Only the head capsule is hardened. The mandibles are tough and sharp for chewing leaves (this contrasts with most adult Lepidoptera, which have highly reduced or soft mandibles). Behind the mandibles of the caterpillar are the spinnerets, for manipulating silk.

Some larvae of the Hymenoptera order (ants, bees and wasps) can appear like the caterpillars of the lepidoptera. Such larvae are mainly seen in the sawfly family. However while these larvae superficially resemble caterpillars, they can be distinguished by the presence of prolegs on every abdominal segment, an absence of crochets or hooks on the prolegs (these are present on lepidopteran caterpillars), prominent ocelli on the head capsule, and an absence of the upside-down Y-shaped suture on the front of the head.[2]

Caterpillars can be confused with the larvae of sawflies (see image on right). Lepidopteran larvae can be differentiated by:

- the numbers of pairs of pro-legs; sawfly larvae have 6 while caterpillars have up to 5 pairs.
- the number of stemmata (simple eyes); the sawfly larvae have only two, while a caterpillar has six.
- the presence of crochets on the prolegs; these are absent in the Symphyta (sawflies).

The family Elateridae is commonly called click beetles (or "typical click beetles" to distinguish them from the related Cerophytidae and Eucnemidae), elaters, snapping beetles, spring beetles or "skipjacks". They are a cosmopolitan beetle family characterized by the unusual click mechanism they possess. There are a few closely related families in which a few members have the same mechanism, but all elaterids can click. A spine on the prosternum can be snapped into a corresponding notch on the mesosternum, producing a violent "click" which can bounce the beetle into the air. Clicking is mainly used to avoid predation, although it is also useful when the beetle is on its back and needs to right itself. There are about 9300 known species worldwide, and 965 valid species in North America.

Finally got a chance to shoot the Flightless Tiger Beetle and do a direct comparison with the cricket! Top is a Tricondyla, flightless Tiger beetle and bottom is a Condylodera Tricondyloides, a cricket that mimic Tricondyla. What amazing mimicry!

Top View [link]

Batesian mimicry is a form of mimicry typified by a situation where a harmless species has evolved to imitate the warning signals of a harmful species directed at a common predator. It is named after the English naturalist Henry Walter Bates, after his work in the rainforests of Brazil.

Batesian mimicry is the most commonly known and widely studied of mimicry complexes, such that the word mimicry is often treated as synonymous with Batesian mimicry. There are many other forms however, some very similar in principle, others far separated. Of note, it is often contrasted with Müllerian mimicry, a form of mutually beneficial convergence between two or more harmful species. However, because the mimic may have a degree of protection itself, the distinction is not absolute. It can also be contrasted with functionally different forms of mimicry. Perhaps the sharpest contrast here is with aggressive mimicry, where a predator or parasite mimics a harmless species, avoiding detection and improving its foraging success.

The organism imitating the protected species is referred to as the mimic, while the imitated organism is known as the model. The receiver mediating indirect interactions between these two parties is variously known as the signal receiver, dupe or operator. By parasitizing the honest warning signal of the protected species, the Batesian mimic gains the same advantage, without having to go to the expense of arming themselves. The model, on the other hand, is disadvantaged, along with the dupe. If imposters appear in high numbers, positive experiences with the mimic may result in the model being treated as harmless. Additionally, in higher frequency there is a stronger selective advantage for the predator to distinguish mimic from model. For this reason, mimics are usually less numerous than models. However, some mimetic populations have evolved multiple forms (polymorphism), enabling them to mimic several different models. This affords them greater protection, a concept in evolutionary biology known as frequency dependent selection.

Batesian mimicry need not involve visual mimicry, but can employ deception of any of the senses. For example, some moths mimic the ultrasound warning signals sent by unpalatable moths to bat predators, a case of auditory Batesian mimicry. A cocktail of deceptive signals may also be used. The distinction between Batesian mimicry and crypsis is clear: the mimic is noticed, but treated as something it is not. On the other hand, camouflaged prey would often create the same effect by being invisible. While model and mimic are often from related taxa, mimicry of very distant relatives is also known. The majority of Batesian mimics are insects.

Ribbon worms range in length from 1mm to very long ones indeed. Some species can reach 30m! Those we have seen range from short ones 10-15cm long, longer ones 30-40cm long and some more than 1m long. Ribbon worms are NOT segmented worms. The body of a ribbon worm is rather flattened. Although it appears smooth, the body is covered with microscopic hairs (cilia). Ribbon worms may have zero to 80 'eyes' (light-dectecting sensors). Some ribbon worms produces mucus through which they move.

Most ribbon worms are voracious predators, often specialising in a particular prey although some will eat a wide variety of prey. Ribbon worm prey include other worms, crustaceans and molluscs.

To capture its prey, the ribbon worm has a unique eversible proboscis at the front end of the body. This is a hollow, muscular structure that can shoot out with explosive force and is prehensile (can be used to grip) and retractable (can be pulled back). The proboscis is usually wound around the prey which is then hauled back toward the worm's mouth. Sticky mucus is secreted to help grip the prey.

In one group of ribbon worms, the proboscis is armed with a piercing stylet that can inject a potent paralysing toxin. Such a worm releases the prey after injecting it, and waits for the prey to be paralysed before moving in to feed on it. If the prey is worm-shaped, it may be swallowed whole. For other awkwardly shaped prey, the worm inserts part of its digestive system into the prey and sucks up the victim's juices. The proboscis may also be used to burrow or to drag itself along the surface.

Being soft and very long, ribbon worms appear defenceless. Studies, however, suggest that they harbour bacteria that produce powerful neurotoxins. These may make the worms toxic to eat. Indeed, many ribbon worms are brightly coloured, perhaps serving to warn of their distasteful nature.

The Festival of Lights, otherwise known as Yee Peng Lantern Festival, is an unforgettable spiritual event held all over Thailand. Yee Peng takes place on the full moon of the second month, as the twelfth month in the Thai Lunar Calendar corresponds to the second month in the traditional calendar of the old northern Lanna kingdom.

The festival features millions of illuminated lanterns being launched off into the night sky to create an almost 'milky way' effect gracefully floating off into the distance. No words, images or stories will ever do this incredible festival justice, you really need to be there amongst the magic to truly appreciate just how amazing it is!
