The Chartreux is a breed of domestic cat from France and is recognised by a number of registries around the world. It is not recognised by the GCCF in the UK, ostensibly for being too similar to the British Shorthair, one of whose colours is a similar blue-grey. The Chartreux is large and muscular, with relatively short, fine-boned limbs, and very fast reflexes. They are known for their blue (grey) water-resistant short hair double coats which are often slightly nappy in texture (often showing "breaks" like a sheepskin) and orange- or copper-colored eyes. Chartreux cats are also known for their "smile": due to the structure of their heads and their tapered muzzles, they often appear to be smiling. Chartreux are exceptional hunters and are highly prized by farmers.

Historically famous Chartreux owners include the French novelist Colette, Charles Baudelaire and French president Charles de Gaulle.

Ce chat est caractérisé par des yeux de couleur cuivre ou orangé et un pelage court et fourni entièrement bleu.

Selon la légende, la race s'appelle « chartreux » car celle-ci habitait dans les monastères avec les moines Chartreux et servait à chasser les rats en ces temps où la peste bubonique faisait des ravages à travers l’Europe. Le félin aurait alors fait vœu de silence, trait qui persiste encore de nos jours puisque le chartreux miaule très peu. Une autre explication plus plausible voudrait que ce chat, pendant le XVIIIe siècle, ait été nommé d'après la dense laine espagnole « pile des chartreux ». La fourrure d'un chartreux adulte est très dense, laineuse, imperméable et d'une douceur voluptueuse. Les Néerlandais auraient échangé des peaux de chartreux du fait de la qualité de sa fourrure, de sa couleur et de sa densité. Selon Jean Simonnet, cette explication est la plus probable.

I'm making this sword for the National Madman Cosplay Comp (Gold Coast Preliminary round) for my Noel (from Final Fantasy XIII-2) cosplay. I just have to finish the paint job (which my sister will hopefully do for me).

Materials: sword pieces & handle - MDF. gold sword: pine. scabbard: pvc pipe, craft foam, material & air-dry clay.
