Photographed early morning at Sloan’s Lake in Denver, Colorado. There was something about this scene, absolutely stillness in a before dawn glow as the moon was setting over the front range foothills. It was so quiet I could have heard a pin drop and I loved every minute of it! I wanted a composition which showed part of the pier which I felt worked well in breaking up the lines within the scene. I hope you all like it as much as I do!

A really fun one to take and edit. I have no idea whose camper this is, but I'm pretty sure that there's no one inside it.

Soft Desert Skies - Zabriskie Point Death Valley 2013

Prints Available at [link]

I will never forget those sunrises and sunsets in Death Valley! They are different because you have a 360 degree of the whole sky with no interference of any mountain tops are anything of that matter. Which makes the skies a breathtaking view. Cant wait for my next landscape trip which will be in Lake Tahoe around July to visit a my best bud since i was a child. Still have plenty of photos to edit thanks for reading! I love photos with the sun in it, best combined with a dramatic sky. This morning at Fanad Lighthouse in Donegal the conditions were just perfect. I waited more than an hour for this moment and then took many bracketed exposures at different f-stops to get a good sunstar and also to get the rest of the picture sharp and without flares.

Some heavy blending was needed in Photoshop to bring it all together, I recorded a little timelapse of the nearly one hour of exposure blending if you are interested -> [link]

cheers

I'll start here with my favourite shot from Giants Causeway or lets call it my favourite shot of our trip to ireland last year. What makes this my favourite was not only the light, but the boy walking to the tip of the causeway and then for a few seconds standing the perfect pose for my photo.

It was a magic sunset and I'm glad I was able to capture some of this magic.

PS: I have a video tutorial describing my complete processing workflow on one of the photos from my Ireland trip if you're interested:

Wide Panorama from Großer Buchstein across the Gesäuse National Park with the peaks of Hochtor and Reichenstein Group (from left) in the first sunlight.

After spending the last two week traveling in Germany and Austria I’m finally returned and started to processes the images. I started in the Hainich National Park in Thuringia to shot some beech forest but I was less lucky with the conditions. HoweverI was compensated with some great light last week in Styria. Look forward to some great mountain vista, whitewater and underwater images!

Mountain view off Highway 20 in North Cascades National Park, WA

Finally going through some more of my past photos. I so miss Washington mountains.
We realize just how small we are as we stare in awe at the splendor of such mountainscapes.
Yet I'm thankful that the God who brought such beauty into existence cares about us, about me personally.

This is from my recent trip to the remote sandstone world otherwise known as "white pocket". This is one of the most remarkable landscapes I've ever stepped foot on, and from the moment I stepped out of the truck, it was non stop photography. Within the length of a full day, I snapped my shutter well over 300 times. Normally, I will shoot that many in 3-5 days. It was cloudy and rainy as we arrived, "perfect", I thought in my head. These were the exact conditions I wanted for this trip. For such a unique landscape, I wanted to have dramatic skies to go along with it. After shredding my boots into oblivion from running across the hard stone, it was time to rest. A few hours of sleep (2-3), and I was awake in the dark of night ready for more shooting. Myself and one of the other photographers I was with decided to venture out into the sandstone to catch the milky way over the martian landscape. All that was missing was my spaceman suit. It was so quiet, the quietest place I've ever been for sure. After shooting the stars until they disappeared, we ventured around shooting the various formations under some fortuitous light. By then, it was nearly 6:30am. The two photographers I was with had been here before, and informed me they were going to shoot this area called the "vortex". With a name like that, I figured I would go with them. After climbing up and over some brainrock formation we came to this spot, the one you see in the image above. It was like nothing I've seen before. The twisting and turning and converging sandstone was just pure bliss for the camera. We spent a good hour or so photographing this spot. The area almost consumed three cameras and lenses along with a photographer (not me), so getting the shots we wanted were actually quite risky. You see, this is sandstone, which is solidified sand. However, there is always this thin layer of fine slippery sand over the red rocks that can cause one some damage. I slid down the steep sandstone slot to a point where I knew I would be able to make it back up without slipping into the unknown abyss below. Finally getting a composition I desired, I got out of there as quickly as possible to avoid any more camera catastrophes. I am definitely dying to get back here now that I had a taste of the landscape. For some sense of scale, that little sand patch in the center could probably hold 3-4 people standing up with a little room to spare.

This atmosphere was worth getting up also on feast by 5 o´clock in the morning. What a mood to start Father's Day .
As the sun was rising I already wanted to leave the location as suddenly this sick light emerged. The time window was only extremely short and I even had to give up my portrait, as the sun disappeared immediately behind the thick clouds.

This was taken this morning around 3:30am in Banff, AB! I was delighted with a small meteor show. One happened to sneak into this pano! As well as some faint Aurora glow to the north!

Torridon, UK
Winter 2012

With the aim of shooting some Scottish Landscapes in dynamic weather I started my trip to Great Britain in mid-November and traveled for about 5 weeks trough the country. My journey took me from the south coast of England via Northumberland to Scotland. In Scotland I traveled from the Isle of Skye to Caithness, Torridon and Assynt. As expected the weather conditions were very contrary (snow, sun, storm, rain). The exposed position at the Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the unpredictable weather in western Scotland. Often it’s possible to experience several seasons within one day. Although it often wasn’t very easy to keep my camera dry, I was rewarded with a variety of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

In early December winter comes to northern Scotland. Ice covered the countless lakes and the frequently showers turn into snowfall. In the last part of my UK series I show the shots from Wester Ross. The photos were taken during several hikes in the spectacular mountainous regions An Teallach and Torridon. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

Periodical lake in Austria. It is a funny feeling when there's grass growing on the ground of a lake. I couldn't resist stepping in though the water is freezing cold from the melting snow. The lake will dry out again in a few weeks and it will be a very usual alpine meadow.
(In the next days I will upload a few more pics of this rare natural event;))
