Beyond the Fence (poem)More Like This
In the winter, of calm and white
Two rabbits of white sit, watching the world go by
One large and one small, are doing something that must be done by all
The cold wind blows
The two rabbits are sitting there for a purpose no one knows
They are doing something, of course
Can't one see?
They are looking past something
Yes, they are looking past something
Looking beyond a fence
The fence separates them from beyond the great white other side
They look on, seeing only the other side
They look on, seeing where it is they want to go
Will they ever go beyond the fence?
Nobody knows but still
They sit looking beyond the fence
Looking past the obstacle that stands between them and the other side
They wiggle their ears and wiggle their noses, still watching
Someday they will go beyond the fence
To their goal and destiny
But, until then, the rabbits, one large and one small, sit, looking beyond the fence
