Wow it's amazing to put things together and see how much you've improved! Like last year, I have nooooo idea when I made everything so I used the date of submission to DA, so dates may not correspond to the real date of sculpting  I'm proud to see that this year I made a lot of different things, I expanded into doing more complicated pieces, new techniques and specially, I finally began making figurines! :dummy:

I just read last year's meme and I said that "doing figurines is not my thing", but actually this year I enjoyed it and they came out quite nicely :D I'm glad I gave it another try! 2013 will be the year I make my first mini human, I already have it planned and I even have a brave volunteer who will receive my first figurines, even if they are ugly and creepy XD hopefully they won't!

2013 here I come! :iconexplodelaplz:

:bulletpurple: January: Polymer Clay 1:12 Macarons - I should do more 1:12 food this year, I haven't made any since!
:bulletpurple: February: Old Souls - My experiments with stained glass look.
:bulletpurple: March: Red Velvet and Black Forest Cakes - These cakes are so me! Completely my style.
:bulletpurple: April: WIP Felix Polymer Clay Dog - Some people couldn't believe how small my work is until they saw this!
:bulletpurple: May: Polymer Clay and Bamboo Hair Chopsticks - One of my favorite works ever.
:bulletpurple: June: Polymer Clay Unagidon - I still remember rolling all those grains of rice one by one x.x
:bulletpurple: July: Key Lime Pie Earrings and Pendant Set - I love this design! :)
:bulletpurple: August: Full Rainbow Food Set I like this more than I will ever admit.
:bulletpurple: September: Maki Tamago Salmon Roe Onigiri Sushi Bracelet - After all these years, sushi bracelets are still one of my favorite things to do!
:bulletpurple: October: Mondkatze 12: Akiko - A very emotional commission for me, I shed a few tears while working on it. I love the moon!
:bulletpurple: November: Rainbow Cakes - Cakes make my work go around!
:bulletpurple: December: Penguins and Elephant - Cute earrings and proof that I can work with figurines now :D success!

Here's last year's entry and the blank template I used:

Available in my Storenvy: [link]

This was an idea I suddenly had and I couldn't rest until it was done ._. my idea was to make a chocolate truffle bracelet, with every truffle being different and with many techniques. It is less realistic than my usual work, but it makes up for it in being colorful and fun! It's fun to try different styles :) I also thought this rainbow crystal bead spacers were perfect for it, they make it look so shiny and brought everything together!

The first photo shows how it looks glazed, I decided to glaze it because I thought it would look better. I'm not so sure anymore, I prefer things un-glazed (like in the two bottom photos) but I know a lot of people prefer the glazed look. Oh well

Even tho it was fun to make I had no intention in keeping it, so it's up for sale in my Storenvy. I am liking Storenvy so far, so I've been putting a lot more of my work in there than I ever put on Etsy. Please pay it a visit in case you find something interesting! :) I'm listing things almost daily. One of the things I love is that you don't need to make an account to buy things, you can log in with your Facebook account making it so much more convenient! :la:

I think the price is quite cheap, considering that they're 12 chocolates you're only paying $3.33 for each one x.x oh well if it doesn't sell I'm taking it apart and selling the chocolates individually. I don't ever plan to do this again so this will be completely OOAK, if I ever do something similar I plan to do the chocolates completely different. The bracelet is 21 cm/8.3 in in diameter.

Technical stuff: All laboriously made out of polymer clay by me, no molds or premades are ever used! Some of the shapes were cut using tiny cutters. Glazed for a shiny finish.

See Hat Contest HERE! WITH THIS LINK!

[link]
Not on Deviant art much, all questions in F.A.Q. or on CanadaCosplay site
This is one of the winning hats from the 2012 Hat contest!
My artistic interpretation of the entrants image for a Demonic skull mask style hat with a stylized grinning mouth just sitting above the wearers own mouth. Wears like a helmet or a mask and covers three quarters of the face. Very fun and difficult pattern that will hopefully open up my imagination to en entirely new way of making mats. This helm style is pretty cool.

-----------------------------------------
Hat Features:
  • Interior Brim
  • The CanadaCosplay interior brim pattern allows for the exciting shapes with the seamless look while still retaining functionality.

  • Helm Style hat
  • Extra long hat fits more like a "Helm" then a hat, like a mask.

  • Eye Holes
  • Designed to be worn over your eyes, angled demonic cut outs for visibility

  • Stylized facial features
  • Incredibly difficult to pattern details at the bottom of the hat, teeth and fangs that sit at nose level.

  • No seams behind the horns
  • No cut-off seams on the back of the horns, allow for a pleasing attached (not cheap!) look.

  • Horns tilt forward
  • I design my patterns for horns to defy the "side seam" and counter-angle the tilt. This allows for more animal accurate forward horn tilt and a better silhouette and visibility when wearing

Sushi bracelets remain one of my favorite things to make, ever!!! :iconexplodelaplz: they are so much fun and happy!

This was a custom commission from an Etsy customer, she wanted it as a gift for a small girl so this one is actually rather small, to fit her thin wrist. She requested a sushi bracelet with 6 different sushi beads, and I feel silly for not thinking of it before :stupidme: it was a great idea! The beads were:

1. Miso bowl - I'm really proud of how small and detailed these tiny bowls are, not sure if you can notice in the picture but they are barely 8 mm in diameter. Includes super mini tofy squares, green onion slices and bits of nori in a semi-clear broth.

2. Ebi - shrimp with rice. I'm working on making it more realistic while also keeping it cute.
3. Onigiri - Simple rice ball, shaped like a rounded triangle with some nori.
4. Ikura gunkan maki sushi - rice, salmon roe on top, wrapped in nori. I was inspired by ~Auffallend's roe tutorial to create mine, I need bigger glass beads.
5. Tamago - scrambled eggs on top of rice wrapped in nori.
6. Salmon sashimi - Bright raw salmon on top of rice.

And of course I learned how to make the maki zushi cane using *chat-noir's Sushi Cane Tutorial, like everyone else even if they don't want to admit it XD

MOAR SUSHI

PS pfttttt I just noticed I didn't submit anything for a month... first time I go this long without any new submissions. Sorry :(
PSS My hands are not dry, macro pics tend to focus on every single imperfection XD

These cakes are available in my Storenvy [link] and Etsy [link] or you can just buy them directly from me :D

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Specially to ^maytel, at least one of this slices is coming your way!

I love these cakes! Last time I made red velvet cake I received feedback telling me that the color is actually darker... so I listened :) Each slice has pure white frosting, it looks so fluffy  each slice includes a tiny red heart, the hearts have a slight color marbling, it's an adorable effect. I'm really happy with the way they turned out, and I think I got the color of red velvet cake perfectly this time  I actually decided to make a full cake this time instead of making slice per slice, it saves a bit of time but it requires more dedication to texture them all at once without going insane. But they look so adorable together, so it was worth it :D

I actually didn't try red velvet cake until a a week ago, we were hanging out with some friends when we passed by a bakery and they had red velvet cupcakes... I asked Oka to buy me one since I had never tried red velvet. I didn't think the flavor was anything special, it was kind of chocolatey, kind of sweet, and kind of meh. I don't know if that's what red velvet cakes are supposed to taste like, but I'm not impressed so far! Red velvet is not a popular flavor here in Mexico and that was actually the first bakery that I've seen selling them, so maybe they were doing them wrong. I will try to find another bakery and give it another chance.

Technical stuff: All handmade with polymer clay by me! No molds or pre-mades were used, 100% handmade one by one with love. The techniques and materials I used were explained in my polymer clay cake tutorial.

This is my very first TARDIS charm! I know its not very accurate, but Its so tiny that I couldn't fit police and box on the same side. Hopefully I'll get a lot better at making these, and be able to make them more detailed.

This was a lovely commission of vanilla cupcakes with rainbow frosting, and I really love the way they turned out :meow: she wanted them as earrings, so I tried to make them cute and realistic at the same time, while also keeping them small and light for comfortable wearing. She told me she wanted them to look like this: sensuette.com/wp-content/uploa… so that's the look I went after. You can see me showing the cupcakes in this video: youtu.be/CF51ihbm6yo

Piping multi-colored polymer clay can be quite troublesome because the colors tend to blend and create an ugly brown mush. It reminded me of my childhood and my experiments with Play-Doh, and how many of them turned into an ugly brown disaster. I tried my best to keep the colors clean and bright, and this is how they turned out. I'm quite proud and excited, and I would love to make more! She received them already and told me she really liked them, so it was all worth it :meow:

Technical stuff: All handmade with polymer clay by me, I used a cupcake mold I made myself but other than that I didn't use other molds or pre-mades. The sprinkles are micro marbles I bought. Things like this are available for commission.

:pointr: You can purchase this in my Storenvy and Etsy. You can also buy it directly from me! :pointl:+

This was one of the prizes I gave on my latest giveaway :) ~neszer won and requested a slice of my Portal Cake, which is a black forest cake, on a ring. I wanted to surprise her a little bit and make it super special, as if it were on a small fancy plate with a dollop of whipped cream, a cherry, some fruit sauce, and a tiny fork :) I'm really pleased with how it turned out and it's a lot of fun to wear! I'm really  happy with this design, so I put it up for sale on my stores. I guarantee you'll love it, the textures and colors are amazing and look delicious :D I'll have to make one for me!

I don't have plans to make a giveaway anytime soon, sorry :( I need to make monies!

Technical stuff: All handmade by me with polymer clay and liquid clay, except for the fork which was bought. The plate is part of the ring base I bought. I have tutorials for the cake, whipped cream and chocolate shaving son my YouTube.

My sister asked me for a strawberry shortcake cellphone strap... then my mother liked it and asked me for one too... then my mom's friend saw hers and wanted like 10 of them to make a charm bracelet...

I feel like I'll be doing these for the rest of my life :giggle:

I could only take photos of this one :( this is 1:6 and is exactly like the one I did for my mom, my sister's was 1:5 and the ones I'm doing for my mom's friend are 1:7 . Her friend no longer wants 10 of these but 10 of everything I can make! Cakes, ice-cream, pies, candies... I'm doing 3 or more items of everything just in case, I learned my lesson :XD:

I think I finally mastered the art of piping polymer clay! I was stupid enough to take photos so you couldn't notice it, but I really did! There's cute little swirls that look quite real, love it  looks like TLS has finally decided to forgive me and work with me :) Interested in a tutorial?

Oh the strawberries slices come from my very first strawberry cane :D it's not as good as I wanted it, but I've read that they're among the hardest canes, so all in all I'm satisfied. I know where I made my mistakes so I know I'll do better next time!

Materials: Sculpey III, TLS, toothpicks, pins, cake tip, lots of patience!

Comments and suggestions are always much appreciated :blowkiss:

Polymer clay pralines! I had fun making them. But someone bit them! :shakefist:

I was trying new techniques... I made the decorations with red polymer clay (which didn't turn out well), polymer clay with TLS (which was nice but hard to pipe so thin) and two brands of 3D paint (the glossy one turned out much better).

My conclusion: this is easier to make with glossy 3D paints, but a tip this thin clogs easily :( For the mint leaves I forgot about the tip and used a pin, I think that's the one that turned out better!

I also found out how to make those bite marks :giggle: I like one but hate the other, guess which one I made first?

Comment and suggestions are always much appreciated :blowkiss:

At about the same time I received a commission for Portal Cake Earrings (available here) and a custom commisison for Paris inspired earrings with coffee cups, croissants and tiny spoons. After I finished them they seemed to belong to the same scene, so I put them together in this cute scene (I imagined a really fancy bakery). This was before assembling the earrings of course, and after I was done giggling and playing they both went to their respective owners.

I haven't received a commission for doll house miniatures yet, which is a shame because I really love to make them :( maybe one day~~~~!

Technical stuff: Everything on top of the display was made by me with polymer clay, no premades, molds or bought pieces. Acrylic paint was used to paint the gold rim. Tutorials for the plates and cakes can be found on my YouTube and DA gallery. The display and the desserts on the bottom rack are from my Sylvannian Families collection.

This was a commission for ~ClockBlood, she asked me to make the Amulet of Mara from Skyrim (reference [link] ) and it was very scary at first, it was the largest and most detailed project I've made so far. However, I'm very happy with how it turned out and I think it's the best thing I've ever made :la:

There was a number of challenges here, the most difficult part was making everything even and symmetric without using molds, the only special tool I used was circle cutters and a extruder. In the third photo you can see that I tried to make the central pendant look flat and not bumpy, which is difficult to do when you're weaving polymer clay. I spent a lot of time trying to make some sense of the knot in the pendant, I thought it was a celtic knot but it isn't! It's just a random weaving that doesn't make any sense, so I had to make it in sections instead of making one long continuous knot, which was my objective :(

The only thing I couldn't replicate was the necklace :( I didn't find any snake chain in the right color, the closest thing I found was the antiqued gold chain which at least is a perfect color match XD Most people carve the sphere on the center but I didn't find any references that confirmed that it's indeed carved, so I made it in my own style (which involved manipulating the mica particles to create stripes of color). I tried my very best to make everything look perfect, no finger prints, no dust, no marks, just perfect and in the right scale :la: I really spent a long time doing this so I hope I never have to do it again unless I get paid a lot :stare:

I'm still not sure what's my posture with fan art, I really prefer doing original work but there's some gorgeous things like this that are just too beautiful to pass  and I'm not 100% sure what's the legal status of these kind of things... but ~ClockBlood has been a follower and a friend for such a long time, so I really wanted to make this for her. Soooo confusing!

Technical stuff: All handmade with polymer clay by me, using my hands, some blades, some circle cutters and a clay extruder. The pendant was aged using acrylic paints. No molds were used, no molds were taken from this. A little bit of glaze was used to make the fake turquoise look shiny.

I love this set, I hate these photos.

I made this back in November for my friend's birthday . We share a big addiction love for coffee, so I thought she would like this :D I painted a tiny bunny in the cup because that's her nickname. Her favorite color is purple so I painted highlights in purple, and some really tiny flowers in the saucer. It's all very small! :la: The flowers next to the bunny are nail decorations I thought would look cute next to the bunny.

(My friend's YouTube channel: [link] )

After at least a year of trying different techniques, I finally made a cup I like! :la: I didn't want to make a simplified cup, I wanted to make it very realistic and complicated because I'm that stupid. After a year of trying, lots of wasted clay, burns and cuts, this was finally born xD (and yes, I will make a tutorial). The saucer is actually really easy, I used the same technique that I use for my plate tutorial just smaller and with a different shape: [link]

I painted the TLS with oil paints to make the coffee, and it puffed! Silly thing :shakefist: I wasn't expecting it at all, I thought that only happened with acrylic paints because the water in the acrylics bubbles, but why did it happen with oils? T_T well that's something to keep in mind next time. Learn from my mistakes, kiddos! I'm quite proud of those coffee beans :la: I love how the texture turned out, I can almost smell the coffee :D

Of course I forgot to take reference photos, but the coffee beans are in real scale so you can get an idea of the size of the cup, almost as small as a coffee bean. The bunny is quite small, about 4-5mm. I took the two photos with the cup in a rush and I regret it, I almost didn't publish this because I think they're terrible... but on the other hand I love the cup and the coffee beans and I wanted to share them. I took the last photo calmly and you can tell the difference, so again, learn from my mistakes kiddos! Be patient when you take photos and make sure you get enough light!

Suggestions and comments are always much appreciated :blowkiss: Also don't forget that I'm accepting commissions, you can order any of these! :la: Earrings are $7, the cup is a LOT more complicated so it's $20. Set is $25.

Materials: Polymer clay, metal findings, acrylic paints.

Pushing my limits a bit further with this one...

This was a gift for ^KovoWolf after her character Kovo, I was really excited about this one because Kovo is a beautiful wolf and I really wanted to practice something more complicated :meow: I was also extremely scared because I didn't know a single thing about wolf anathomy, and I was scared that I would get it all wrong and make a complete fool out of myself :iconcryforeverplz: I ended up studying lots of wolf pictures and watching a couple of animal shows.

One of my goals was getting used to making bigger sculptures, but I ended up making it smaller than I originally planned, again :stare: I start with a size in mind, and I make things smaller and smaller until I end up with something like this. I absolutely love the small size and the tiny details, you know that I love working small, but it wasn't what I had planned xD The eyes were really hard to paint, I have no idea how I managed to make them symmetric, you can't notice it that well because the glare makes them look a bit uneven, so you'll have to trust me (and you better trust me, I worked really hard!). The scars were really hard (but fun!) to do.

This was also the first sculpture I make completely with Sculpey Firm, and WOW! I really loved it. Blending is a bit harder, but it's great for tiny details and small shapes. I can't wait to use it again, I'll keep practicing how to make sculptures, I'm getting close to making people... I'm scared :noes: I need to get the right clay first, I keep wishing I had some of that beautiful translucent skin color that looks like porcelain (hey Polyform, if you're reading this I wouldn't being sponsored some Super Sculpey Living Doll clay  or at least start selling it in Mexico!).

This is the reference that I used, Kovo belongs to Kovowolf:

Technical stuff: All handmade with polymer clay, no molds, premades, cutters or bought pieces were ever used, it was all sculpted just using my tiny hands, a needle, blade and a blending tool. The eyes, fur and scar were painted with acrylic paints. A tiny bit of glaze was used to make the eyes shiny. The bust was mounted on a mirror because it looks really cool. It's about 1.5 cm tall or a little bit over half an inch.

This was an amazing commission :wow: I loved the idea from the minute I read it. It was really fun to do, complicated due to the small size and lots of details... but really fun :D just the kind of thing I love to do. These earrings are a combo of my citric and cake dangling earrings, which can be found in my Etsy and Storenvy (links above).

These are Portal Cakes with Lemon Grenades and some regular lemon halves. I copied the Portal Cake from the outside, and since it's supposed to be a Black Forest Cake I added some tiny cherries to the filling. Making the chocolate shavings on the right scale and texturing something so small was a challenge.

The Lemon Grenade was tricky because the pieces needed to be precise and straight to look realistic, otherwise they end up looking too cartoonish. I made my best to look the clay look like rusty metal.

I love how polymer clay can be manipulated to look like a translucent cherry, creamy frosting, delicate chocolate shaves, crumbly cake, though metal, juicy pulp, and citric peel... it's simply magic T_T  I only used a bit of paint for the metal effect, the rest is all polymer clay.

Technical stuff: All handmade by me with polymer clay, no molds, bought pieces or premades were used, 100% me :D the cake was made using the techniques explained in my many cake tutorials (which can be found in my DA and YouTube). Glaze and the tiniest bit of acrylic paints were also used.

Totally unique! Made for wire-wrapped competition "Time machine".

I haven't uploaded anything for a little while since I'm busy trying to build up an inventory for my show next month, along with trying to figure out a way to display it all (which I have figured out - I just need someone to help me build it because I don't trust myself around power equipment XD).

This was all finished over the course of the week, along with several failures at trying to make my own plates and bowls. :P

From the left: A breakfast plate with pancakes, eggs, and bacon, a lemon meringue pie, an apple pie, a blueberry pie, a peach pie, lemon squares on a plate I tried (and failed) to make, cinnamon rolls, cherry crumble, and chicken and herb sausages.

This ring was inspired by a chapter in the Ouran High School Host Club series. If you know what I'm talking about, then you are AWESOME and, lets be friends. :3 I made it out of polymer clay.

i've never played the pokemon games or seen the show but i was amazed when i came across a tutorial how to make аn ivysaur flower pot (actually this one: www.instructables.com/id/Bulbasaur-Flower-Pot).
it was really cute so i thought i absolutely need one in my room! and it's also very easy to make.

i followed instructions but after applying paper mache i also used clay (classic
darwi air drying clay) to remove ridges and then a sandpaper.
i've also added some clay details. it's coloured with acrilic paints.

(!!!) if you want to make one for yourself, you better use A3 paper or resize a papercraft when printing cause an actual size is really small (
11x10cm) so you probably won't be able to find a fitting flower pot in a store.
the flower i used is kalanchoe, you can also use guzmania (but those are usually bigger so you'll definitely need to print a bigger size papercraft).

P.S. thanks for your attention! it means a lot to me!
if you want to buy it, please pm me and i'll make one for you.

FOR THE INSIDE OF THE BOOK - www.behance.net/gallery/Artist…

For one of our University units we could choose to create either an animation or an artists book - I chose an artists book, and made this in approximately a two week time frame. I chose to dissect a letter.

Blessings,
Marni

So yeah, this happened.  I got a mad urge to work with some high-quality glass cabochon eyes and...stuff got made.   This is a Dragon Eye eye patch.

The leather (hand carved and shaped entirely by me) is cupped, so that this is actually a functional piece (and not just a slab of leather that'll bang into your eye).  I spent the weekend figuring it out.  This is what I do, instead of having a social life.  So it goes.

This piece is available in my Etsy shop, here --->  www.etsy.com/listing/168832496…

A "recipe" for realistic miniature bread that almost feels like baking real bread: all you need is water, baking powder and.. well, polymer clay instead of flour!:happybounce:

This was adapted from this tecnique (wich is probably my all-time favourite!!).
However, this method uses just polymer clay, instead of Liquid polymer clay (which is quite pricey!).
Also, you won't need any mold!

All you have to do is to knead the baking soda into the polymer clay and shape it as you want before baking. So much fun! :mashedpotato:

Ps. After a few tests, I found that while you can color the bread with chalks before baking, the colour does wear off a little, so I suggest to paint your miniatures with acrylic paints instead
:wink
