Tips on Photography! What you'd like to know?Lately I've been getting quite a lot of messages of people that are just starting on photography or feel a little bit lost with all the things that photography has to offer to a person, and they asked me for advice.I don't consider myself a great artist, as a matter of fact, I'm aware that I'm still a beginner in the huge world that photography involves. And instead of answering every message I think that it's better to do an article so more people can read it!More Like This
As I said before, I don't consider that I'm good enough to give tips and tricks to anyone, but I thought that it'd be nice to put some things that I know into one article, even if it's not too much I guess that it might help someone, and if it does, I'd be very happy to aid a fellow artist, at the end of the day, that's what deviantART is about! Isn't it?
So, is there anything you're interested to know? About deviantART, showcasing your pictures, cameras, Photoshop, set-up of pictures, field of photography? I'll t

How to Write a Proper CritiqueIts my personal opinion that deviantART has a pretty good critique system, but what good is a wonderful critique system if you dont know how to write a proper critique? A critique should be useful.
A critique should provide useful feedback on the piece thats being critiqued. It should include what the artist has done right, what the artist has done wrong, and most importantly, how to improve.
Tell the artist what theyve done right.
Its important to let the artist know what theyre doing right not only because its useful knowing that, but because its encouraging. You never want to have your critique sound too

Our London deviantMEET Was Brilliant! On Saturday, June 14, 2009, deviantART held a deviantMEET at the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park. Almost exactly three years later -- on Saturday, June 30, 2012 -- at the same location in Hyde Park, London deviants once again turned up in droves. Smashing the previous record, our London deviantMEET 2012 saw over 550 deviants throughout the day.
Most deviantMEETs include a group photo, usually taken towards the end of the event's festivities. However, we wasted no time taking our group shot in front of the Albert Memorial, as we wanted to ensure we were complying with Hyde Park's rules and regulations for large gatherings. With a group this massive -- and awesome -- it's hard not to draw attention!

9 reasons to appreciate ACRYLICS1. UNIVERSALITY - Acrylic are probably the most versatile of paints. You can thin them with water and use as watercolor (they will remain permanent upon drying, unlike watercolor), apply them in full strength, create textures.More Like This
2. COMBINABLE - This medium is very suitable to be combined with anything you wish - watercolor, ink, pencils, oils... Free your imagination and experiment!
3. NUMEROUS SUITABLE SURFACES - Acrylics can be used on paper, canvas, wood, metal and many more surfaces (this is true, even though they don't adhere towards some surfaces as promptly as oils). This is a great advantage, when you get used to this medium, you can paint at whatever material you've got available.
4. DON'T STINK - That's right, all of you that have experienced headaches caused by oil paint might just appreciate an acrylic vacation!
5. FAST DRYING TIME - Composition doesn't seem right after you put down your first layer? This is not a problem, wait half an hour
PE: The Impact of Color1. - WHAT IS COLOR?More Like This
Color is the aspect of things that is caused by differing qualities of light being reflected or emitted by them, as received by the human eye and processed by the human brain. It is a function of light and biology, not an exact science, no two people can see it exactly the same.
The human eye and brain together translate light into color. Light receptors within the eye transmit messages to the brain, which produces the familiar sensations of color. Newton observed that color is not inherent in objects. Rather, the surface of an object reflects some colors and absorbs all the others. We perceive only the reflected colors. Thus, red is not "in" an apple. The surface of the apple is reflecting the wavelengths we see as red and absorbing all the rest. An object appears white when it reflects all wavelengths and black when it absorbs them all.
"Colors are the deeds of light, its deeds and sufferings."

When a tree falls deep in a forest, does it make any sound?
Aokigahara, Mirkwood, the Forbidden Forest, forests North of the Wall... they all contain mysteries that you'd really not like to uncover by yourself. Tell us a story - what have you found in your imagination? A labyrinth, witch's hut on hen's pud, a pond inhabitated by kelpie, a troll, or something much more terrifying and sinister?
You know what your task is. Please remember that this is GrimGloomTale, and not ThrowAnyPileOfTreesIn.
If you feel like doing a research on any of the places mentioned above, please note that Aokigahara forest is a real one and photos found can be really not safe for work.

Photography Troubleshooting: Understanding ISOHeader created by TouchedDMore Like This
TheGalleryOfEve asked recently about SLR settings and in particular, a troubleshooting article focusing on ISO. So here it is! Hopefully this article will help you to understand ISO better, whether a beginner or not.
What Is ISO?
ISO within traditional photography, was an indication of how sensitive a film was to light. Within digital photography it measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. Basically, the lower the number then the less your camera is sensitive to light. Higher ISO numbers are generally used in dark situations to get faster shutter speeds but this can often mean that your shots are noisier. ISO 100 is the most widely used and gives crisp shots with little to no grain. Shooting in automatic means that the camera will select the appropriate ISO for the situations that you are facing, and work out the rest for you to reduce noise as much possible. But it's when you start getting more technical and
THE ANCIENT CULT OF MITHRAHe:More Like This
1) Was born in a manger on Dec. 25 and was revered by humble shepherds;
2) Celebrated a Holy Supper, along with 12 disciples, before returning to the Father's house;
3) Ascended to Heaven where he promised to return in the end times for the Last Judgment;
4) Guaranteed eternal life to those who are baptised.
Are we talking about Christ?
Absolutely not! These are just some of the peculiarities of the god Mithras, whose cult, begun in Persia no less than 4000 years ago, had spread throughout the Roman Empire coming to be one of the most successful religions (popular as Christianity itself) followed for nearly four centuries.
As evidenced by ancient Sanskrit texts (1400 BC), the ancient religion of the Persians, Mithra (or Mithras from the word MIHR, sun) was considered an angel below Ormuzd, the Supreme Being, still at a higher level than the god Sun. During the Vedic period Hinduism Mithra (associated with Varuna) was the god of creation, the universal order, and fr
THE CELTIC WORLD AND THE TRUE MEANING OF HALLOWEENThe Celtic SocietyMore Like This
The foundation of Celtic society was the family. Even the ancestors were considered part of the family. In Ireland the matriarchal system prevailed, and the woman could have sex with more than one husband.
Both public and private life were under the control of the Druids. These men and women acted as judges, teachers, priests, soothsayers, wizards, doctors, and astronomers, probably constituting the most outstanding characteristic of the Celtic world.
Periodically, Druids from different places and tribes (even in war among them) gathered in assemblies to celebrate their complex and mysterious rites.
During "spare time", part of the Druids transmitted their knowledge to new generations. The school, which could last up to 25 years old, was mainly oral and students had to memorise numerous notions. The main function of education was the knowledge of Nature, its energies (tellurian and cosmic), its laws and its rhythms. This cultural background explains
Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing FireworksWith the 5th of November looming - and of course Christmas and New Year bringing the opportune moments for fireworks - it seemed useful to put together a small troubleshooting guide for those that are going to venture out with the camera. The 5th of November in the UK is known as Bonfire night - the day when, many years ago, the plot to blow up the houses of parliament was thwarted. Nowadays when officials discover a terrorist plot, they're pat on the back and life goes on. But back in those days, a whole day was set aside for celebrating. And now, in the modern age, up to two weeks are spent setting off fireworks. So first and foremost, if you can - shoot it in RAW mode. It's great for after-tweaking and especially with white balance and sorting out flaws. We're drawing on the expertise of WhenPigsFry in order to give you as many tips as possible. He's part of a crew that puts on firework displays and thus sadly misses the chance to shoot them a lot of the time. However hMore Like This

The above was taken with a Sony Cybershot which is a good quality point and shoot camera. As you can see, the focus is crisp, the quality is good and the lighting is adequate. It works well - and it's easy enough to achieve whether you have a D-SLR or something smaller.
Before you start cooking - get prepared. It's the simplest easiest thing to say and you'll likely roll your eyes at such a mundane instruction but there have been many times when I've found mysel

Thomas and John Knoll: the brothers behind the magic
Back in 1987, Thomas Knoll was working on his Ph.D. thesis as part of his studies on image processing at the University of Michigan. He had bought a new Apple Mac Plus to help with the thesis, but was frustrated by the fact the computer wouldn't display greyscale images on the monochrome monitor. This issue wouldn't stop him and so he decided to write his own code in order to be able to see the images in his new computer.
His brother John was coincidentally working for ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) on image processing at the time and discovered Thomas' code during a holiday visit. Clearly impressed by his brother's achievements, both began collaborating on a bigger applic
Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing BabiesOkay so one of the biggest subjects within portraiture photography are infants and children! Children and in particular newborn babies bring out the photographer in all of us. So whether or not you're looking to go pro and snap babies professionally or whether you just want to brush up on some tips for your own family or friends, this could be the article for you! this is really stupid guysI lost my first real commissioner because I refused to draw something sexual? I thought they understood but they just blocked me. I don't understand why either, I was polite and overly generous and even went along with it when they changed ideas after I had already sketched something out. I can accept it if someone doesn't want me to draw for them, but I think it's really rude to just block someone without explanation in the middle of their conversation for sticking with their standards. If they just said "no thank you" or something I could have gone with that. I don't know if they were expecting me to come raging to their page about how I "couldn't draw for them" or whatever, but really I'm so much better than that. It only reflects poorly on them because it shows what they would have done in my place.More Like This

I mean I guess if they're requesting from someone who made a journal about taking requests, it would make sense
but it's happened to me before and it kind of seems like they don't care about the artist, but hey they're accepting requests so I'll just ask them for a picture anyways, add them to the pile
I would rather have people request from me because they actually like my art, not because they want to see their character
It's happened with my past two pictures, I know they watch me but it's evident that they didn't see their requested pictures. I'm not going to go to your page and let you know if I finished something for you. If you want it, you're going to have to check for yourself. And clearly they didn't care enough to do that. The vibrant digital paintings of alicexz are fiery, emotional, and incredibly memorable.
The colors of her creations (mostly portraits of popular TV and Film characters) are unusually vibrant, which is remarkable considering how layered they appear to be. It’s sort of like what manga characters might look like if painted by one of the Dutch Masters. And this artist exhibits just the right amount of quirkiness to leave us wanting to know more: she has a penchant for painting redheads. But, then of course, there’s a lot of red and golden fire burning through most her artworks.

5 Career Killers“Whatever happened to that guy? The guy that drew that thing?More Like This
Comic careers are like any other career in entertainment: if you don't stay relevant and adapt to a trend, you'll eventually peak and then bottom out. But there are more things that can help end a career. Here's a list of 5 that I've been thinking about lately.
1. SOCIAL MEDIA TAKE-DOWN
The creator does something that somehow goes viral, turning his (or her) readers against him. Bad behavior at a convention, sexual harassment online, or a semi-racist Tweet made worse by bumbling attempts to correct it. Or maybe the creator gets blamed for something innocent: innocent comments taken out of context, or involvement in a controversial project that he had no say over. Whatever the case, “social media take-downs” can harm careers, leaving a permanent black mark on your career.
I imagine this one is the most common: no matter how hard you work—and no matter how much a

Now i don't want to critique someone's critiuque, i rarely do that because people take it as being defensive about the art that is critiqued. So i'll just make this journal to hopefully inform/educate some of you about critiquing.
-If an artist requests critiques, and you have something to say about it then do use the critique widget to leave a critique. Don't critique in the comment's section though. I know some of you are more shy, but if you're bold enough to write a critique then put it in its proper place, that's what the widget is fore. This is stunning in its subtlty. A creature that I can believe in. One assumes it is embryonic, and yet its wispy umbilical chord looks severed. I would accept

Nuances of an Annual Ritual
Which brings us to each year’s communal celebration of the passing of our lifetimes:
New Year’s Eve
So what did you “actually get done” in the past year? How closer are you to a grand goal in life? An assessment is made and then the inevitable Step 2 of the yearly process is engaged, which is often a word for word repeat of last year’s Step 2:
The New Year’s Resolution
There seem to be two main strategies that emerge at this point of facing the New Year, a “brand new morning.” The lone wolf quietly acknowledges goals not yet reached, and is even more secretive in the “new plan.” “I’ll show them,” becomes the new privat

PE: Importance of AnatomyThe importance of anatomy.More Like This
Understanding anatomy is crucial to many aspects of your art.
You'll notice that anatomy is essential for drawing. It becomes difficult to accurately draw a complex pose, or even a simple one, if you don't understand what's under all that skin or fur, or even bark. Knowing how everything fits together is important.
Once you notice where that certain muscle is, shading and form become much more accurate and more natural. Knowing why the nose and eyes fall where they do make it much easier to draw from memory, and nail that natural look you were going for.
Learning the anatomy of the subject you're going to draw is quite important, and will definitely help you on several levels.
It's also easier to drawing sequences of movement. One will know what connects to what, and how they move. What is possible, and what isn't. (Range of motion)
Drawing people and other animals can be intimidating. Once you have a solid foundation, it's much easier

The Screenshot This Meme. The Truth Behind The Infinity MemeMore Like This
Before i start the tall-tale of the screenshot meme, i'd like to thank
ReaveT93 and Mochine-Nyan for getting me interested at 8:30 at night to do this search. and for the links you guys got, you went really far!
Now to get down to business. with the links provided from the two above, i just started pushing the images that where similar, but then i hit the first dead-end.
At this point, no one is drawing on the meme, it's just a screen shot, which i found strange, since i thought it was a drawing meme.
So, to get over the road block of deactivation, i read the user name of the person before the one that deactivated and searched the name in DA.
I did this several times until two people deactivated and i couldn't make out the words of the the last last person who did it.
In situations like this, Google is your best friend~
I started to Google the usernames and, walla! Most of their images are there, and i could make out more names.
Then i got t
