Vertex is a theme for GTK 3, GTK 2, Gnome-Shell and Cinnamon. It supports GTK 3 and GTK 2 based desktop environments like Gnome, Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE, Budgie, Pantheon, etc.

Themes for the Browsers Chrome/Chromium and Firefox are included, too.

The theme comes with three variants to choose from. The default variant with dark header-bars, a light variant, and a dark variant.

Requirements

  • At least Gnome/GTK 3.10. This theme works with all versions up to 3.16.
  • The gnome-themes-standard package
  • The murrine engine. This has different names depending on your distro.
    • gtk-engine-murrine (Arch Linux)
    • gtk2-engines-murrine (Debian, Ubuntu, elementary OS)
    • gtk-murrine-engine (Fedora)
    • gtk2-engine-murrine (openSUSE)
    • gtk-engines-murrine (Gentoo)

Main distributions that meet these requirements are

  • Arch Linux and Arch Linux based distros
  • Ubuntu 14.04, 14.10 and 15.04
  • elementary OS Freya
  • Linux Mint 17.1
  • Debian Jessie, Testing or Unstable
  • Gentoo
  • Fedora 20, 21 and 22
  • OpenSuse 13.1, 13.2 and Tumbleweed

Derivatives of these distributions should work, aswell.

If your distribution is not listed, please check the requirements yourself.

Installation

Important: Remove all older versions of the theme from your system before you proceed any further.

sudo rm -rf /usr/share/themes/{Vertex,Vertex-Dark,Vertex-Light,Vertex-Gnome-Shell,Vertex-Gnome-Shell-3.16,Vertex-Cinnamon}
rm -rf ~/.local/share/themes/{Vertex,Vertex-Dark,Vertex-Light,Vertex-Gnome-Shell,Vertex-Gnome-Shell-3.16,Vertex-Cinnamon}
rm -rf ~/.themes/{Vertex,Vertex-Dark,Vertex-Light,Vertex-Gnome-Shell,Vertex-Gnome-Shell-3.16,Vertex-Cinnamon}

Packages

Prebuilt packages for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and openSUSE are available at

software.opensuse.org/download…

Arch Linux users can install the theme from the AUR

aur.archlinux.org/packages/ver…

aur.archlinux.org/packages/ver…

Manual Installation

To build the theme you need

  • autoconf
  • automake
  • pkg-config or pkgconfig if you use Fedora
  • libgtk-3-dev for Debian based distros or gtk3-devel for RPM based distros
  • git if you want to clone the source directory

If your distribution doesn't ship separate development packages you just need GTK 3 instead of the -dev packages.

Install the theme with the following commands

1. Get the source

If you want to install the latest version from git, clone the repository with

git clone git://github.com/horst3180/vertex-theme.git --depth 1 && cd vertex-theme

If you want to install the latest stable release, run

git clone git://github.com/horst3180/vertex-theme.git --depth 1 && cd vertex-theme
git fetch --tags git checkout $(git describe --tags `git rev-list --tags --max-count=1`)

or download it from github.com/horst3180/Vertex-th… and cd into the extracted archive

2. Build and install the theme

./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
sudo make install

Other options to pass to autogen.sh are

--disable-cinnamon            disable Cinnamon support
--disable-dark                disable Vertex Dark support
--disable-gnome-shell         disable GNOME Shell support
--disable-gtk2                disable GTK2 support
--disable-gtk3                disable GTK3 support
--disable-light               disable Vertex Light support
--disable-metacity            disable Metacity support
--disable-unity               disable Unity support
--disable-xfwm                disable XFWM support
--with-gnome=<version>        build the theme for a specific Gnome version (3.10, 3.12, 3.14, 3.16)
Note: Normally the correct version is detected automatically
and this option should not be needed.

After the installation is complete you can activate the theme with gnome-tweak-tool or a similar program by selecting VertexVertex-Light or Vertex-Dark.

Uninstall the theme

Run

sudo make uninstall

from the installation directory, or

sudo rm -rf /usr/share/themes/{Vertex,Vertex-Dark,Vertex-Light}

Extras

The extra directory in the source directory contains Chrome/Chromium and Firefox themes, a fix for the Ubuntu-Software-Center when using the dark theme and an alternative metacity theme, which hides the window titles of maximized windows (doesn't work on Gnome 3.16).

To install the Chrome/Chromium theme go to the extra/Chrome folder and drag and drop the Vertex.crx or Vertex-light.crx file into the Chrome/Chromium window. The source of the Chrome themes is located in the source "Chrome/source" folder.

To install the Firefox theme copy the extra/Firefox/Vertex/chrome folder to ~/.mozilla/firefox/yourprofile.default/ and restart Firefox. Make sure that the tools>options>content>colors use system colors or preferences>content>colors use system colors checkbox is unchecked.
Themes for the variants Vertex-Light and Vertex-Dark are in the Firefox folder, too. Installation is the same.

To install the alternative metacity theme, copy the Vertex_alt_metacity folder to /usr/share/themes and select it as window theme.

To install the Plank theme, copy the extra/Vertex-Plank folder to ~/.local/share/plank/themes or to /usr/share/plank/themes for system-wide use. Now open the Plank preferences window by executing plank --preferences from a terminal and select Vertex-Plank as the theme.

Troubleshooting

If you get artifacts like black or invisible backgrounds under Unity, disable overlay scrollbars with

gsettings set com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode normal

Ubuntu-Software-Center doesn't play nice with dark themes. If you are using Vertex-Dark under Ubuntu the software center will have unreadable text. To fix this, install the Ubuntu-Software-Center fix. Instructions and relevant files are included in the extra/Ubuntu-Software-Center folder.

I love CloudApp for the Mac. It's free, fast, and utilitarian. I was using FileChute but CloudApp just plain works better. I love the menubar droplet, the auto-copy URL to clipboard, the auto-URL shortening, and all the helpful Rain Drops (and even the odd little auto-screenshot upload feature). My only beef is with the big, clunky, animated menubar icons that you get by default. I am a "clean menubar" kind of guy. I've been using queo's Menubar Clean Icons with a few of my own mods so I had to make a set of smaller, cleaner animated menubar icons to match. In this makeover kit you'll get the full suite of animated menubar icons, a new app icon, and even a handy read me file on how to use everything.

:pointr: [dAudible.user.js] :pointl:

A simple script made at =zachriel's request, it makes noise when you're highlighted in dAmn. Good for you idlers/lurkers that hang around in dAmn whilst doing other things :bucktooth:

Preferences are in Tools -> Greasemonkey -> User Script Commands -> dAudible Preferences :)

**********************************

To Install:
1. Install Firefox
2. Install Greasemonkey
3. Click on the link below and select "Install" and you're done!
[dAudible.user.js]

**********************************

Known issues

1. If your browser won't play wave files on its own, the script won't work. To see if your browser is capable, try playing this file. If your browser asks you how to deal with this, try installing a quicktime plugin and then try to play the file again.

2. If you're using other scripts there may be conflicts. The order in which the scripts are loaded makes a difference. To change the order of your scripts, go to Tools -> Greasemonkey -> Manage User Scripts, and drag the scripts to the order you want. For some users, this script only started working after the dAx script was dragged to the very top.

3. The script sometimes makes a noise even if you were not highlighted, but it only happens shortly after a real highlight. There is currently no solution to this.

4. The script may steal focus when you get highlighted if you are typing in text boxes in other tabs of your browser. When this happens, go to your dAmn tab, click the text box, and then go back to what you were doing.

This should now work better with the new navigation bar, including rotane's style to move things around up there. Install from the location down below :)

--
UPDATE - November 4th, 2011
This seems to put the icon under the top bar in Chrome. Not sure why, but I'll try to figure it out later.

--
UPDATE - August 10th, 2011
I made this script work a bit faster, so the time between the group messages icon showing up and fading in to 100 percent opacity is quicker. Install from the same links below to update.

--
UPDATE
The hovering version was made a lot better by Roamn, who gave me some code to keep it from opening and closing over and over.

--
UPDATE
I had a typo on the "Correspondances" tooltip when you hover over that icon, so I've updated it to fix that. Minor correction to fix a typo, but it's been updated as of Wednesday, June 8th, 2011, 5:44 PM EST.

--
Intro
You all may remember my old group messages script that would let you see all the messages in your groups, but that sort of broke when Firefox 4 was released. And it was just a messy script and didn't always work.

Well this is my update to that script, and it works pretty much the same way, without all the hassle that the other script had :D

--
How it works
So as you can see from the screenshot, this will put in a :groups: icon at the top of your page telling you how many group messages you have. Group messages are counted as either notifications (notes or forum threads or whatever) or correspondence items (deviations or affiliates and things). It doesn't count comments, but you can still see any comments you have by just opening the menu up.

Then you can click (or hover) on the icon to open the menu you see in the screenshot. It will list all of your groups, and what message types each group has. This saves you from checking each group folder in your message centre manually to see the messages.

Then you can click on the groups listed there to be taken right to that group folder in your message centre so you can take care of the messages you may have.

If you don't have any messages, or you have any activity messages, the number will be lighter and smaller (since those aren't as important), but if you have any correspondence items, notices, or comments, the number will be white and bold, so you can easily see it.

--
IMPORTANT - Please read
This script has a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost, it may list more things than just your groups. If you have a custom folder you made that could be the name of a group, then it will be listed there (but still accurately say each number of correspondence, notices, comments, and activity). But if your custom folder name has a space in it, any special characters other than - or even a - at the start or end of the folder name, then it won't show up. So you may need to edit your folders and give them a name a group couldn't have. For example, I had a "llamas" custom folder (I was curious to see how many I got and from who years ago) but that would show up in the menu. So I made a new folder, named it "llamas-" (with the - at the end) and then moved all the messages in my old llamas folder to this new llamas- folder and deleted the llamas folder.

The group icon will slide in as soon as the script loads (as you know, user scripts load slightly after the page loads) but it will be partially transparent until it fetches all of your group messages, at which time it will fade up to 100 percent opacity. I had a version that wouldn't do anything, and then once it was all ready, it would pop in, but it was slightly distracting to have it pop in so late after the page loaded. So you won't be able to click (or hover) anything until the group icon is totally opaque. I've had a few times where it never became fully opaque, but a page reload fixed that.

When you hover over each group, you'll see it's a link to your group's folder. Most of the time. The way the HTML structure is, I wasn't able to make the whole "blue hover area" a link, so it's mostly just the group title and each type of message that is a link. But clicking anywhere on it will bring you to your group folder, so don't worry. You just may not be able to open the link in a new tab, depending on where you are hovering. And, this will act funny and open two tabs to your group message centre if you click the a href while in the chat rooms, but I don't expect many people will find that a problem, and I don't really want to fix that :slow:

Of course, this won't do much if you don't have group folders in your message centre (meaning you aren't an admin of any group) so don't install this unless you're an admin of any groups :B

To install

This works in both Firefox (with Greasemonkey) and Chrome. Although if you use Chrome, you may want to check out this other extension, which adds a lot more functionality to messages in general.

If you want a version where you need to click on the group icon to open up the menu, then click or copy/paste here:

As always, let me know how you like this, and if you have any suggestions or problems :)

tl;dr: Eh, read it anyway :B

This script is obsolete! please install the next version: Dev_Note_Search2!

dediggefedde.deviantart.com/ar…

About:

Installable userscript: Search within your Notes!

This is a working script! Install it if you want this!

This userscript adds a search-form in your note-section so you can search for usersnames, subjects, messages and dates.

This is an entry for deviantart-Related's collaboration-contest: namenotrequired.deviantart.com…
sugarpoultry has made a similar visual suggestion some time ago: sugarpoultry.deviantart.com/ar…

You can search via Regex:
Normal words should be contained.
2 different words will pe separated with |: interview|promote will search for notes containing interview or Note.
To search for 2 words within one note use .*: interview.*promote
Search for patterns: "myd+. entry" will match "my 1. entry" "my 2. entry" "my 123. entry"
Not sure about nicknames? make wildcarts: "de.*fedde" will match my name, too!

Site-effect: Browsing pages and filtering will become much faster!

How to use

The first time you open the Note-search, it will have to index your notes.
For 300 notes this may take 10s.
Every time you reopen the note-search it will look for new notes and index them automatically.
However, when deleting a note, you have to reindex (with the button) it yourself.

To search simply insert search-words.

Preferences:

works well with...
firefox + Greasmonkey-addon,
chrome + tampermonkey,

Information for installing can be seen here: fav.me/d4akman

:pointr: Ever seen a kick-ass comment and thought to yourself "I wish I could +fav that"?

Comment Collector is a userscript that lets you add comments to your collections just like deviations. We can already see your favourite art on deviantART, and now it's time you share your favourite slices of the community fun!

What Comment Collector does:
:bulletblue: Allows anyone to use their art collections as home for collections of comments, too!
:bulletblue: Adds a little :+fav: button in the top right of every comment, reply, forum thread, forum reply, etc. — visible only on mouseover!
:bulletblue: Makes it easy to make collections that combine comments, the description and art, due to the comments being placed inside the collection description!
:bulletblue: Allows you to see any and all comment collections — even when you're not logged into dA.

Collect your favourite comments from over the years, or collect comments on a particular subject or for a particular purpose in different comment collections — the possibilities are endless, and you decide how, why and for what purpose you collect and present your collected comments. Now get collectin', I'd love to see what comments you people find collection-worthy!

:pointr::pointr: Click here to install Comment Collector! :pointl::pointl:
Requires Mozilla Firefox and the Greasemonkey extension.

:note: Please note: It is required that you have this script installed to see comments in collections. However, if you don't have the script installed, you will still see that comments have been collected — you will just get links to the comments instead of seeing the actual comment right in the collection. (You may optionally want to link to this script in the collection description so that other people may install it and see your collected comments!)

Enjoy! :eager:

This script is dual-licensed; either CC-BY (above) or the MIT License applies.

Oh, and if you want to see a comment collection after you've installed the script, check out my silly collection!

:note: Note that this userscript is merely a personal project and NOT a service of deviantART.com.

:pointr: Update August 17th, 2009: Version 1.0beta2 was released that prevents a bug that occured when dA changed some of its CSS. If the comments in a collection look odd, install the updated version of the script (same link)!

:pointr: Update January 2010: IF YOU HAVE A COMMENT COLLECTION THAT DOESN'T LOAD, MAKE SURE ALL COMMENTS ON IT ARE PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE. You can't collect comments from restricted areas (such as special forums or group backrooms, etc.).

:pointr: Update March 2010: Due to an update in some code, it's required to download and install the newest version to keep comment collections working!

:pointr: Update June 2010: Fixed comment styles to v7.

Devon Jade from the shoot for Designer Deanna Dibene.
Deanna makes some of the most unique and classic Golden Era head pieces Ive ever seen.
She is not widely known by the public at large, but her head pieces are worn in films, and at alot of red carpet events.
She has a really cool etsy store : www.etsy.com/shop/BaroqueAndRo…

So just another setup I made today. This is my left monitor so that's why you don't see the system tray. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
