There are certain scenes, moments, and feelings in life which linger on in your memory. Like catching the eye of the one you fall in love with, the first kiss, holding hands and watching the sunset, hearing the first piece of music send a chill down your spine, which then forms your favourite band, musician, or genre. These are the types of things that stay with you the rest of your life; things you can look back upon and smile with a light heart.

My life's goal is to capture precious light -- whether it be in the form of photons that have potentially travelled millions of years to fall upon my camera's sensor from the most distant celestial wonders, to the light that travels 8 minutes from our own star, to strike the Earth in the guise of a beautiful sunrise -- when I do capture something special, it lingers within me and leaves a lasting impression.

This scene was captured after 3 days of waiting for the right light. I feel very lucky and blessed to have been able to witness (and, experience) one of the, if not, the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen, at one of the most remote, primal and pristine places left in the world -- Milford Sound.

To give you an idea as to the sheer scale of this place, the waterfall that you can see at centre right (Stirling Falls) is approximately 8 km away.

With the soft light illuminating the clouds from the western horizon to the east and to the south behind me, in a gorgeous pink, it is something that I will never forget.

Hi,while out today, I went to the corner of the field where I knew these berries are growing. I felt almost like a "Black Bear", as I went about picking and snacking on these wonderful treats! I just love this time of year! wild blue berries and Black Raspberries just waiting for me to walk by and grab a couple of handfuls. Yummm! :hungry:

Hi, well it's coming to an end...the Blueberries are just about done for the year. Each season, I go and pick as many as I can. What my wife Nancy does is freeze them, and then later on in the winter she makes these wicked good Blueberry muffins. There is nothing better than a fresh Blueberry muffin that reminds you of summer, in the cold and dark winter months!
What is really cool, these wild berries, though not very big have tons more flavor than the store bought variety. It's almost like they bred the flavor out, to get that big size....I'll take my flavor packed little wild ones over those any day!

Several months ago, I posted a similar shot from this morning that I took with my Nikon.  Well, here's a scan of my favorite slide from this morning (and one of my favorites of the year).  As you can see, I got some really nice light on this August morning.  I'd love to get back here at some point in September with the aspens turning yellow and some snow on the peak, but I certainly can't complain about the beauty of the San Juans in the summer.

A view of Garopaba, a fishing town in southern Brazil, dating back to the 16th century.
Its name originates from the Guarani word ygárampaba, which means "ships cove".
The region is also known for its beautiful beaches, most still unexplored.

I love the place.
Was hoping for a nice sunset... got a heavy cloudy sky and huge storm 20min later.
Enjoy the view and leave a thought! :)
Thanks & happy week!

Late light in the high Altiplano, northern Chile.
I've been busy with weddings and commercial work and life in general since getting back from South America, and haven't had a lot of time to go through the photos I took there.
This was taken on our 3rd night on the Altiplano.  We'd rented a jeep and headed south east from the plains around San Pedro de Atacama towards the southern lakes and high volcano peaks.  San Pedro is at the relatively moderate height of 2500 meters, but as soon as you head anywhere north, south or east, you start to ascend very quickly to the Altiplano.  We'd spent the day exploring at around 4000 meters under a solid blanket of cloud, but all the time I could see that back towards the west above the lower plain, the sky was relatively clear and as the afternoon wore on it became clear that as the sun started to drop towards the horizon it would pass through the clear part of sky and illuminate the side of the mountains and underneath the clouds.
We came back west along a bumpy dirt track crossing the pass and descending to the plain just as the sun broke through and painted the whole valley with the warmest, most golden light I have ever seen.  Everywhere we looked was just lit up with this amazing golden light.
The peak here (I think it's Volcan Chumisa) is bordering on 6000 meters....pretty high!

This photo of the Matterhorn taken on a cold evening in October conveys a mystic atmosphere. After the first snowfall, the Stelli Lake is slightly snow-covered but still ice-free. The long exposure captures the moving clouds above the mountain tops of the Valais Alps.

The first rays of the rising sun are touching the peaks of the Swiss Alps. This shot shows the rising sun just below the mountain top of the 3610-meter high ‹sseren Barrhorn (left). One of my main goals for this year is to really work on some night photography and more specifically, nightscapes. There is just something so surreal about viewing a familiar landscape under the stars. Now, to me these dunes were not familiar. I had never photographed them before (at least got INTO a dune field). During my trip to death valley, I knew I wanted to take in the sand dunes, but not just any sand dunes. I wanted to find ones that were relatively untouched and tucked away. I did some research and found out about these dunes tucked away in the southern end of the park. On the second day after an incredible sunrise at Zabriskie point, my friend and I made our way out to these dunes two hours away from the heart of the park. Upon arrival, it looked as if we would get rained on once again with the dark gray clouds filling the sky. We quickly got situated for camp and decided to head out into the dune field. A few sprinkles here and there, but nothing that made us think of turning around. The thing with these dunes, is that you can't just drive up to the dune edge. You have to hike a mile or so to reach the base of the dunes which seems a lot longer when you are actually hiking out to them. Once we got to the edge of the dunes, we made sure to be careful and not trample over everything and leave footprints. We didn't see a single footprint out there, it was perfect. We scouted around and shot from various ridges as the storm passed by giving us some nice stormy light. Just around sunset, the skies began to clear. While it would have been nice for the clouds to stick around for sunset, I was even more excited for the clear skies to come. Death valley is known for it's dark skies, and it surely did not disappoint. The milky way began to rise over the dunes and andromeda shined brightly to the left. I got pretty lucky as a shooting star happened to fall on the right side, balancing the sky. This is a blend of three exposures. Two for the landscapes at a low ISO and to get greater depth of field, and a shot of the stars, at a very high ISO and fast aperture. It is a scene I won't forget, and perhaps one of the most technical and planned out shots I have.
