Dramatic light behind a departing thunderstorm turns the Badlands Wall gold. The incredible direct light with dark skies gave this place such an incredible depth and contrast. As I stood atop a rock formation at the White River Valley Overlook I felt small compared to this display of earth and sky.

This is an image ive had since April 2012 but never got round to editing properly, shot into a setting sun from one of the most splendid and isolated Tors on Dartmoor.

This image is cropped from a stitched panorama of 8 vertical shots, i used a lee.6 hard grad and also bracketed each shot from which i stitched three panoramas, one for the upper portion of sky one for the brightest band of sky and one for the foreground. These were then layered and blended in photoshop.

Balsam Root blooming among the rhyolite tuffs in Leslie Gulch, Oregon. A spectacular place to visit and photograph. The Owyhee Canyonlands of Eastern Oregon and Western Idaho have some of the most unique geology in the American Northwest. Still, they remain relatively new to popular photography and rich with original compositions. THis area is also a favorite destination of many for its geology and paleontology aspects.

It surprises me how unpredictable the ocean really is. On the coast of Pacific City, this natural rock formation would be calm one minute, then have water sprayed 100 feet up the face, causing a short "waterfall" to enjoy for those who are willing to stand close.

A brief FAQ:
1) Where is this ? West coast of new zealand a few miles north of Rapahoe
2) How do you get down to this beach? Just past the 10 mile creek bend heading north, there's a small pullout with a fisheries sign. A short steep path gives access to the southern end of the beach
3) Is the beach always like this ? Nope - it is very tide dependent and views like this are only possible at the nadir of low tide - and try to make sure it's a very low tide!
4) Will I get wet? Yes! despite low tide, waves will still come at you over this shelf submerging it entirely and jumping off means you will be even deeper.
5) Was it worth it? YES!
6) Are there nudists in the area? ummm yea, on our first visit we were leaving after dark with our 2 year old on my back. Instead of clambering up, we knocked on the door of someone's house to ask if we could walk through their nicely stepped backyard. We were greeted with a friendly but bottoms down nude guy ushering us through......

Early morning at Palouse Falls in Washington

A top-view shot during a true winter day in Godafoss. A truly spectacular waterfall, the waters of the river Skjálfandafljót fall here from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. During winter, the river remains liquid but a wonderful icy crust envelopes the horseshoe-shaped waterfall.
This location is one of the most exciting we'll visit during my 'Winter Paradise' workshop.

A ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland on the north-east coast of Scotland, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) south of Stonehaven.

Low tide exposes interesting sand patterns as the sun pokes between clouds. Ke'e, Kauai, Hawaii. Last day of 2010! Happy New Year!

For many years I've stared at this location, but only behind glass and inside a frame. Always crossing my fingers I would have my chance at that special opportunity to experience this amazing place for myself.

Then finally, that opportunity arose. I made my plans, located the area and took a hike, twice actually. The first evening, I shot from 5 pm to 1 am, soaking up every bit of detail I could cram into my little brain. So as to never forget such a unique and historic place.

There was only one issue, the evening wasn't what I had pictured in my head for my shot. So, the following evening I returned to not only be greeted by an extremely hospitable German native named Peter Sierla, that by the way allowed me to shoot this with his 24mm f/3.5 TS-E, but the sunset I had been waiting for.

The temperature, the lighting, the location, the company, everything was just........perfect.

I'll never forget this evening.

Shot taken right after a turbulence that has involved both the Italian and French side of Mont Blanc massif... revealing, at the end, the Aiguilles of Chamonix, literally encrusted in ice.

This is a detail of the world famous Aiguille du Dru, with its two summits (Grand Dru 3.754 m, and Petit Dru 3.733 m), with the ridge that goes up to the left, towards the Aiguille Verte.

This area is less iced, but the warm alpenglow of the sunset made the clearing storm endlessly magical, as I have ever seen.
So I've opted for this photo, thought much in detail.

Good morning in Icelandic

My second picture of this wonderful place - this time an original without panoramacrop.
That perspective is well known among us photographers. I couldn´t leave without hasn´t shoot it .
Of course i don´t want to deprive you not this gigantic "almost" arctic sunrise.
Thanks to my extreme wide angle I could bring the Kirkjufellfalls with the Kirkjufell in the background and the rising sun on one photo.
You are on the legendary Peninsula Snaefellsness in Iceland.

Glacier Crystals - ICELAND

After a brilliant sunset over the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón, i hurried to get to the wonderful black lava beach just a few hundred meters away.
The light was already very gloomy and the big challenge was to get a sharp shot of this glacier fragments in the moving water with the need of a longer exposure. Also it was a very sporty challenge not to get icy-wet feets in the unpredictable breaking waves.
I made a strenuous series of five photos in which I had to concentrate to the utmost of what I was doing. I think this one could be my personal favourite. To get a straight horizon and a beautiful composition was harder to manage as it might sounds.
