You are the only thing
That makes me want to live at all
When I am with you
There's no reason to pretend that
When I am with you
I feel flames again

Consciousness returned slowly and with it came a dull throbbing that flared to violent intensity when she opened her eyes. She closed her eyes and groaned, sliding one hand up to her head. At the same moment, she became aware of an immense weight across her back pinning her down. Suddenly everything came sweeping back to her. The human-Reaper. Garrus. Samara. The bomb. If she remembered correctly, they only had five minutes left before the charge went off and destroyed this base and everything in it. Adrenaline surged through her and she sucked in a deep breath as she put her hands on the floor and pushed herself up onto her knees. The weight across her back threatened to take her back down and she dragged on

Maybe I don't know a lot about human mating customs but Joker told me human women really like to receive gifts. I found on the extranet that the 14th of February is your holiday of love. I recognized this as a good opportunity to give you this modest present in spite of face that I would prefer to celebrate our affection every day in usual activities or in your cabin every night.
You may not know this but since my stay on SR-1 I've felt something for you. It seemed very awkward to me because I've never felt anything similar to any human woman. It was respect and friendship bound together with a growing love. And then, you just disappeared... without any word. I thought the pain caused by this fact would kill me. I thought getting drunk at Chora's Den every night will soothe my suffering but it was only making it worse. And then, fighting the anarchy on Omega somehow brought peace to my shattered life. I was thinking, "It's for you, Reby. I will co

Peyton rolled the stiffness from her shoulder, biting back the wince that threatened to surface along her features. Safely hidden behind the four walls of her cabin it would have been fine for her to groan and grimace about the discomfort her shoulder was causing her. Peyton believed that if she didn’t acknowledge the pain then she could pretend that it didn’t exist. She was better than her pain, or at least more stubborn.
Sitting cross legged on the cabin floor, she listened to her breathing and tried to steady her thoughts. She normally meditated first thing in the morning, but since getting shot her schedule was off its axis. Peyton chased away thoughts as they surfaced, trying to empty her mind from the chaos of the galaxy, the newness of her team, and the ongoing competition against her brother. Her father had taught her the importance of meditation at a young age, and it was one of the few things that Jax couldn’t claim to be better at than her.

I hurried away from the shuttle deck and headed for my quarters by way of the mess hall. I grabbed a sandwich and some chips and checked the vending machine. The Peppermint Patties that I requisitioned from Earth had arrived and were stocked into the station’s only human junk food dispenser. I purchased six, stuffed one into my mouth and got on the empty elevator. I keyed in the code to the VIP floor and sucked air in through my nose to spread the delicious smell of mint and chocolate across my palate. I wondered how Adrien managed to arrive in the shuttle deck corridor just as things turned to the sour side between Karlson and I.
Well, he does have the entire station under surveillance, I mused.
Still the timing seemed a bit too perfect and I intended to ask him about that. The elevator stopped on my floor and I entered my quarters to find Adrien humming in the shower. How had he managed to skip ahead of me like that? I&

I thought I’d spend my day off with Jane.
Jane had other ideas. And other plans.
When I returned to the Aldrin on Friday evening I told my daughter that we would spend the following day on quality time doing some mother, daughter stuff like painting our nails and playing monopoly… I thought she’d be pleased. Jane informed me that she had already planned her weekend and had been invited to a sleep over hosted by the daughter of the ship’s XO, a little girl in her school class. She had accepted because she couldn’t imagine that I’d say no. After all, we were all on the same ship; it wasn’t like she was going anywhere.
I was about to reiterate the rules about invitations from others that I had established when Jane was just in daycare, but then I stopped myself. Jane was almost eight. She already chose her own clothes and shoes. She fixed her hair the way she wanted a

Cyone had originally been colonized by the asari. It’s capital, Polos, was an industrial hotspot with its tall buildings and crowded streets. People from every which race, from every corner of the galaxy, inhabited this trading post, intermingling with the asari population for the sake of profit and advancement.
It was why Peyton wasn’t surprised by the kids that made up Drake’s pestilent street gang. They looked like bored kids with nothing better to do than harass the municipal populace. Their behavior was nothing that a good scare couldn’t fix, she was only surprised that the local authorities hadn’t done anything about them yet. Asari were typically good at this kind of thing.
“This is the place,” murmured Drake as they peered around the corner at the seemingly unused skycar garage. The structure was snuggly tucked between two abandoned warehouses, and the entire area seemed to be a long forgotten part of Polos.

He woke from his dream with a start, jolting upright at the sound of the preset alarm on his omnitool blaring. Gabriel groaned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he silenced the wake up call. It was surprising that the alarm still worked, considering the virus he had mistakenly uploaded from Peyton’s omnitool the night before.
Another groan escaped him as he remembered that he needed to go to her, tail between his legs, and ask her to remove the virus. He could imagine the look of satisfaction on her face when he asked her. Gabriel would bet every last credit to his name, what few he had, that she would relish her small victory.
He climbed out of bed, jumped in the shower, and changed into a fresh pair of clothes before grabbing his things and leaving the cabin. The cruiser was serving breakfast and they would be touching down on Cyone soon. If he wanted to grab a bite to eat it had to be now.
When he stepped into the mess hall his attention was immediately pulled to the slight

Miranda slowly woke from her peaceful slumber. She stretched her arms above her head and yawned, the sight of Illium’s buildings outside the window the first thing to greet her. She smiled contently and turned to wake the one man that could summon a smile to her lips with only a thought. Her smile fell a little when she saw that his side of the bed was empty.
Pulling the sheet around her chest, she sat up and was surprised to see him sitting on the edge of the bed fully dressed. His back was turned to her, his head lowered in deep thought. What Miranda noticed though, was the fully packed Alliance bag near the door of the bedroom.
Her smile fell completely, her heart shattering to pieces as she realized his things were packed and he was ready to leave. The argument they had last night played in her mind and she swallowed hard as she put the pieces together; James was leaving her. She was imperfect, he was perfect. Of course he would leave her, a broken woman.
