Opening her eyes, Mona pressed her hand against where she’d felt the most recent movement; it had upgraded from wriggling to outright kicking now. “It’s not as bad as it looks…” she admitted. “It’s still freaky as hell, but I’m getting used to it.” She paused, grimacing slightly. "Well, not really, but..."
He nodded, keeping his focus on her middle. “May I?” At her acquiescing nod, he placed his free hand on her stomach, his eyes widening when he felt a soft tapping sensation against his palm.

Roused from his thoughts, Kyle glanced up at the young woman’s call. Recognizing her as Mona, the woman who lived down the hall from his girlfriend Liz, he automatically hit the Door Open button on the old wall console. The heavy metal doors slowly slid further apart and he braced his arm against one of the panels to keep them open. A few moments later the young woman, bogged down with several grocery bags clutched in her arms, rushed by him and into the compartment.
After taking a few moments to catch her breath, she set the bags down on the floor, fixing him a grateful smile. “Thanks!” she exclaimed with a breathless laugh. “I didn’t think I was going to make it.”
