Stashed in away in a basement somewhere,
In some long forgotten box of old toys,
Buried under a great many other plastic creatures,
There is a little blue dinosaur.
He has a lengthy neck, and a long skinny tail.
His skin is textured plastic and blue as can be,
The paint on his eyes and the tip of his nose has chipped off,
And his bottom jaw is missing.
In the dark he remembers,
Sticky fingers holding him for days on end.
Little hands moving him through tall grass,
Making fake roaring sounds and crashing into other toys.
He remembers being cuddled at night,
(Though he was the farthest thing from soft).
He remembers tears crawling over his scales,
And hiding under blankets from fighting grown-ups.
He remembers flying over an ocean,
And coming to a new home with just one grown-up.
He remembers being put into a box,
“Just for a little while sweetie, until we settle in.”
And then he remembers the dark.
