Hi guys! This is a new set of 12 artworks I did for the new Star Wars Essential Reader's Companion. Although the dateline for this book was a lot tighter it nevertheless was an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

As with the last book I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the Reader's Companion. Enjoy!

This is the final showdown scene, found in The Unifying Force, between Jedi Grand Master Skywalker, the Solo twins and the Supreme Overlord of the Yuuzhan Vong, Shimrra along with his retinue of Slayer bodyguards. Skywalker's strike team is part of a larger campaign Galactic Alliance is fighting in an attempt to retake Coruscant and end the Yuuzhan Vong threat once and for all.

I read the excerpt for this scene and it just thrills me to see how powerful and badass Luke is as a Jedi Master. I would absolutely love to see this as a movie but alas I can only dream

This scene is from The Courtship Of Princess Leia and it is the first proper depiction of Teneniel Djo, witch of Dathomir and future Queen Mother of the Hapes Consortium. Luke Skywalker, who was checking out the wreckage of the Chu'unthor, is caught off guard by her sudden appearance and barely dodges a kick to the face. This is totally an unfair match-up but Miss Djo has no clue who she's dealing with.

For those who don't know there is actually an existing depiction of Teneniel Djo but it is a black and white sketch done back in the 90s. The publisher felt it was not reflective of how she's described in the books and so we gave her a little update and sexed her up just a wee bit so this result of it.

This was another piece that was done purely for the fans. It's from Force Heretic of the New Jedi Order series and it shows the Jedi Expedition led by Grand Master Luke Skywalker exchanging cordial gestures with former enemy and renown Imperial ace pilot, Baron Soontir Fel. He's one of my favorite EU characters mostly because he's an upstanding Imp and the Empire's equivalent of Alliance ace, Wedge Antilles, whom I love.

Fel here is part of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force but was also formerly a commanding officer in Thrawn's Empire of the Hand before its dissolution....or absorption by the Chiss Ascendancy. The Jedis are on the Chiss homeworld of Csilla and they are on an expedition in search of the mysterious sentient planet, Zonama Sekot, which they believe is the key to defeating the Yuuzhan Vong.

Here's a rare fan art piece I did of Mrs Skywalker. She's one of the coolest female leads in the Star Wars mythos but its too bad she died in the novels.

Notice she's using Luke's original lightsaber, the one he lost when he fought Vader, which he than retrieved later on and gave it to Mara.

Hope you guys like it.

I'm not the first to think up the idea of mashing Star Wars and Aliens together - but the two go together so well I had to draw another crossover. (My other piece features Darth Maul.)

For this one - I thought up the idea of Darth Vader going to check out some unusual liferform readings in his Star Destroyer's cargo hold... and finding an Alien queen.

The title for this has a double meaning. First because I think the two characters would be fairly evenly matched in a fight. Second - because of the parallels between the character design - both are shiny black evil monsters. So I've emphasised this in the composition and lighting. I also picked up on a few helpful comments about the 'gritty' feel of my last piece - so I kept a limited colour palette for this one too.

I've drawn Darth Vader attempting to use his 'force choke' on the Alien queen (would that work?). I did this intentionally because it's an ambiguous pose. I wanted him to look like he might even be reaching out to the Alien - perhaps sensing a kindred spirit. I thought that added something to this as a piece of 'art' that would be lost if this was just another battle scene.

This is an original depiction of George Lucas's and HR Giger's characters. My initial sketch for this was drawn on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 using the bundled Photoshop Touch. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the digitizer pen is - and the fact that you can export PSD files to complete your work is great too. I finished the piece in Photoshop using a Wacom pad. I used Google Sketchup to build a 3D wireframe for the background which I then imported to Photoshop to colour.

I'm really, really pleased with this. Hope you like it too!

I have another one for you Mara fan's. This one is from the first book of the New Jedi Order series called Vector Prime and it shows Mara Jade dueling Yomin Carr. She's the first Jedi to ever encounter, duel and defeat a Yuuzhan Vong in single combat, albeit with great difficulty. This was an enemy unlike any other the Jedi has faced before and one that is formidable even to an experienced Jedi like Jade Skywalker. On top of looking like a pure badass the one thing that makes Yuuzhan Vong cool to me is their use of living bio-weapons like thud bugs (thrown projectiles) and the amazing amphistaff, which is a whip, sword, spear, and venom shooter all rolled into one and its apparently so tough that it can resist a lightsaber cut.

I think some of you may have already seen this image already as it was one of the preview images from the Reader's Companion but I'd like to mention that this is the updated version of the one floating around the net right now. I made some changes after some sharp-eyed fans pointed out that her lightsaber was the wrong kind and so I gave her Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, which is more consistent with canon. I also noticed that Wookieepedia has the old version of this image. If anyone would be kind enough to update it with this version that would be great!

Another commission for :iconmihoshik: *MihoshiK, had a great time working on it. If you're interested in commissioning me check out my journal [link]

Here I did a redesign of Hammer's Slammers mercenary hover tanks. The tank runs on a fusion generator, which powers their lift fans and plasma weaponry.
The main gun will melt enemy armored units to slag, while the tri-barrel plasma gun on top handles point defense against infantry, aircraft, and incoming projectiles. A final defensive measure is an array of ball shot mines surrounding the tank, which can kill incoming infantry and missiles.

I tried out some matte painting for the landscape, otherwise it's all hand painted. Made in PS CS4 with a Wacom Intuos3.

"It was the third year of Dominons War, and we were all tired. So when we left our warp bubble 2 Megaklicks from 47 Ursae Majoris C, we didn't waste our time. MI's reports looked promising: the target planet was inahbited by civilization apparently on quite low tech level. You know, no space fleet or orbital defence stations, no nuke-powered battle platforms, poor Mom Earth-worshipping dum-arses...

Agricultural society, I mean.

It was almost too good to be true.

At 2040 hours Commander commenced attack on their biggest city. Heavy Colonial Fleet Battlegroup: 40 shuttles with infantry, 12 CAS squadrons, 4 carriers, a dozens of support vessels. Commander thought she was smart, cause MI folks told her the farmers down below would have some kind of religious festival that night. Well, they had. And our visit really pissed them off.

53 minutes later, our last Kiev class carrier hit the ground and exploded. 75% of our close air support crafts were also destroyed, and lucky survivors had to pull back. But the worst thing was, it took just three people to wipe out our troops. We dubbed them 'priests' afterwards, cause of - you know, divine powers they used against us or something - but we haven't really grasp their position and role in the farmers' society.
Yeah, divine powers. Don't laugh. One pilot rescued by Medivac boys told us how his plane was ripped in half by flying girl. Other reports mentioned her and her friends, hovering over our carrier - just before it's armour was penetrated and cooling system damaged by, as we were told, meteor shower that came from nowhere!
That night we've learned our lesson. I learned it pretty well... ."

One of my favorite pieces from the Contact book, maybe because I came up with the idea for this one, or at least part of it.

Showing off some of the high tech gear you can put on the field in Contact. Power armor with anti-gravity packs, plasma rifles, and particle cannons. All while jumping from your supersized vtol, explosions to your back :D

Finally finished. Had a fun painting session last night getting this done, thanks to everyone who watched.

An Elemental crouches near it's final kill of the battle.
The squad of aerial mechs deployed from orbit, equipped to combat an Elemental that was ravaging ground forces. Going in on slim intel, they ran into a terror, a mass specialist.
Mass specialists are often Eles in the last stages of achieving Tier3 shielding, and becoming a master. Already tide turning lone wolves, they are incredibly hard to kill.
Nimbly evading or deflecting all incoming rounds with ease, the Elemental could enhance it's rifles fire to pierce armor, form projectiles from material in the ground, and tear apart the few that made the mistake of coming too close.
Flawless precision use of cold forcive shields

Some Star Wars Inspired picture after very long time. When I was reading very good technical website about the starwars, I've found picture of the leg and small comment of one amazing machine. This Is my vision of superheavy Imperial battle walker.
My intention was make a new design of a huge war machine, of course somehow similar to AT-AT. So I didnt have much space for experiments.
This walker much bigger than his older brother about twice in height. The desingis using some elements from the battleships of the Empire. Weapons: one turbolaser, eight heavy lasers and many heavy blaster cannons. The picture captures flawless crushign of the rebels defence positions on some cold planet (not Hoth:)). Rebellion have no weapons that can harm this machine.

The walker is based on simple 3d model(done in 1hour). The rest is playing with many layers in photoshop. the small at-st and some planes done form the reference. Picture was done half on cintiq tablet, the rest Intuos3. Time about 25-30 hours, just 2 hours a day after work.

Snowtrooper Captain leading a charge. I was really inspired by alot of Japanese model kit box art when I did this, and I was hoping to bring some of that 'no-nonsense photojournalistic' look to this image. Like as though you were there in the trench next to them.

As always, my favourite characters to paint are the incidental ones in the background.. I always think they end up having the most natural poise and story. I also homaged a bit of Jin Roh in the way he held his MG34- i mean Blaster... by the bipod.

Also, now that I'm looking at it again after so long.. those explosions do seem a bit huge. Maybe the rebels are packing some serious heat. Whatever.

A team of Shadow Troopers tracking down Rebel scum. In the original square format image, the ground and foliage in front of the crouching trooper has been disturbed with what looks like a walker's footprint. Maybe some rebels stole an AT-ST.

Somehow I was trying to convey 'serenity' and 'stillness' when I was painting this. Like a calm dewy morning of sorts, the Shadow tracker team moving through the forest with an equal amount of stealth and grace.

This first piece is from a new book, called Lost Tribe Of The Sith: Precipice. I have next to zero knowledge about this story except that the women riding the flying beast is Adari Vaal and the two Sith fighting each other are members of Naga Sadow's Sith empire.

This scene is found in a short story by Timothy Zahn called Mist Encounter and its one of my favorite fan pieces. Here Captain Voss Parck of the Victory Class Star Destroyer, Strikefast, and Colonel Barris meets Mitth'raw'nuruodo (Thrawn) for the first time. Following this event Thrawn joins the Empire and eventually becomes the Grand Admiral we all know and love, and also founder of the Empire of the Hand.

If you look closer you'll also notice that the clone troopers are wearing hybrid, transitional armor, a combination of phase II and the new stormtrooper armor.

An Entechment in process from the Truce At Bakura novel. The space raptors are called Ssi-ruuk and there are the ones torturing and sucking the life out of that the poor Imp officer using a contraption called an Entechment rig. The "life-energy" extracted is used as a power the Ssi-ruuk war-machine. The other human in the scene is Dev Sibwarra, using the force to calm the victim down. One of the few creepy scenes in the Star Wars universe IMO.

There are many paintings of Gandalf and Bilbo starting a journey, so I wanted to paint one where they are returning home. I'm still searching for my style by trying to keep things loose and leaving distinct brush strokes.

This painting started as a test for a paint program I've been making, but most of it was still done in Corel Painter. Some adjustments were done with Photoshop. The hobbit hole was referenced from photos taken on the Lord of the Rings movie set.
