Points: A Brief Word on Scams and Other NonsenseAlbino.More Like This
A second word about scams?
Carbohydrates.
Now, after those brief words, I wanted to say that if you ever see anything like "You give me 10 points and I'll give you 100" IT WILL 100% OF THE TIME BE A SCAM!
If there is some random deviant that you don't know wanting you to give them points for a magical "X" number afterwards, they are LYING and you will never see those points again.
You would think this would be common sense, but it unfortunately is not. At all.
Remember that 10 points is 8 cents. A homeless guy would curse you out if you tried giving him 8 cents. Also, remember that all points transfers are AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU chose to give those points out. YOU gambled, hoping to get 100 or whatever number the guy promised, and lost. Scammers like that prey on gullible schmucks, so don't be a gullible schmuck.
I wish common sense things like this became a meme and traveled through people's comments instead of "FB

Each day, hundreds of thousands of pieces of art are submitted to deviantART. As more and more artists join, create, and share their work, it becomes easy for high quality art to miss its chance to stand out and be seen.

Undiscovered focuses on recently submitted artwork that has not yet drawn attention or recognition at the levels of Popular or What's Hot browse modes. Munich, Days 3-7: Sex WorldI've been in München, Deutschland for the past week. I haven't gotten lazy with my journals, however. I just simply felt different about my stay here than what I experienced in Zagreb and Beograd. But I'm leaving tomorrow to move on to Italy, so I feel like I should write a tiny recap! In Munich, I feel a sense of comfort and belonging. It is a culture I know and rather than feel like a sidelined note-taking spectator, I felt inclusive to the culture, like I was a part of it. That's not to say I felt completely like an outsider in the Balkans--not at all. But in that case, it took conscientious effort for me to fit in and even then, I had no internal feeling that I was really "making it." I met many friends in the Balkans who I got along well with, but in a general fashion, I think I left the Balkans with a general air of, "there goes the American."More Like This

The New Year’s Resolution
There seem to be two main strategies that emerge at this point of facing the New Year, a “brand new morning.” The lone wolf quietly acknowledges goals not yet reached, and is even more secretive in the “new plan.” “I’ll show them,” becomes the new privat

In previous years, the Emote Awards were done on an erratic schedule, from a date in December to another date in December. A (modern) history of dA emoticonsIntroMore Like This
As you wander around deviantART pages, there is noticeably one art medium that invades almost every element of the site. Whether it is the deviantART galleries, journals, news section, comments, forums, chatrooms, avatars or even dA profiles, it is hard to find a spot that hasn't been infiltrated by a familiar set of small, coloured, pixel circles. The art form I am talking about is of course the emoticon and throughout the past 10 or so years they have been happily adopted by deviantART and its community.
Although emoticons can often be spotted on a wide range of other instant messengers (IMs) and social media sites, deviantART has come to house a unique branch of these miniature art pieces. Whilst the majority of these alternative sites opt for simple, predominately yellow emotes with a range of basic expressions, the art community here at dA have stretched the art form far beyond its natural boundaries and developed entirely new styles of emoticons

A New Way to Make SuggestionsHello Beta Testers!More Like This
For some time we've been running a limited test of the Ideas Forum on our Zendesk Help Desk integration. Today, we're expanding this test to our Beta Testers.
This forum allows for a great deal of flexibility in how we approach suggestions.
We can mark items that are planned, completed, or not planned at this time. We can also highlight staff responses on forums, giving more weight to responses that are important in informing deviants why we can, or cannot, take a suggestion into consideration at this time.
Deviants can vote on one anothers' posts, giving greater community control over what content is reviewed. The more votes, the higher the suggestion will appear in the forum! Unlike our current forum, threads don't expire, and when creating a new thread you'll be prompted with similar threads.
These are only a few of the features the new forum has, but altogether our testing has shown thus far that
Hiring an AdminLooking for our Final Admin!More Like This
That is right! We are looking for one final admin to join our team at #CreateRespect! This admin must be proficient in creating well thought-out tutorials on two very specific topics: Respect and Tolerance.
Skills Necessary
This deviant must be able to create visual tutorials through ART. Both visual and written tutorials are acceptable (as deviations, not journals), must be relevant to this group AND the deviantART community, and they must be coherent/understandable. Previous group admin experience is NOT required.
Scheduling
As with each admin here, we only expect ONE submission per month. This means that you would only create one tutorial each month on a topic you choose yourself (after it is approved in the back room by all the admins). This position will not be highly demanding on your time... (however if you create the most epic of all tutorials, you m

deviantART has streamlined the way they take DMCA and Copyright Notices. While you can still make general reports on permission issues, you CANNOT make copyright infringement reports on any work but your own. This is because of US LAW, not deviantART. deviantART is simply following the laws of the USA (so please refrain from flaming the site staff as they can't do anything about it).Permission Issues
Reporting a permission issue is easy. If you see a work that you are pretty sure the artist doesn't have permission to post, simply click the REPORT DEVIATION link on the deviation page. Choose "Permission Issue" from the list and tell the Help Desk why you think they don't have permission to post that work. Don't tell them they are infringing on anyone's copyright. So...what was the event that you spoke of?It's "Christmas in July"!More Like This
Instead of featuring 31 wishes like we did in December, we'll be featuring members who have attempted to grant wishes all through out the month!
As many of you know, this group runs mainly on donations and volunteers so every wish that is granted is because someone either took out of their time or out of their own personal funds to help another person (and trust me, no one here is rich and we all wanna win the lottery one day XD). Let it be critiques, helping along a supergroup, buying a premium membership, featuring other members or even making a new & unexpected friend-each one of these individuals did quite a bit and deserve recognition for being among the few who made the effort!
So in honor of this event, I invite each and every one of you to do one particular task: help someone! Let it be a member, someone you know from DA , even someone you know offline or a complete stranger~!
Respect Groups and Group StaffBefore I begin with this article, this is should be considered an updated version of an older article I wrote from 2010, Respect the Group Volunteers! This is something I felt should be updated to bring attention back to the topic. While it has been a while where I've encountered inconsiderate individuals, I've still observed this behavior occurring to many others. I do hope those who read this will find this useful.More Like This

Creating Columns by `miontre
:iconmiontre:
Creating Columns
Multiple columns are a great way to present your information in a journal skin. Whether you simply want to write text in two columns, or want to do something more advanced with it, columns are a great way to add that little bit extra to your aesthetics!
There is no limit to the number of columns you create, but you need to keep in mind that if you add too many your design will start to look worse on smaller screens. I personally find it's best to stick to two or three columns (though even numbers are much easier to work with). Throughout this tutorial, I'm going to work with three columns.

Undiscovered (Beta): Unearthing Quality ArtArt Under The RadarMore Like This
Each day, hundreds of thousands of pieces of art are submitted to deviantART. As more and more artists join, create, and share their work, it becomes easy for high quality art to miss its chance to stand out and be seen.
Our new browse mode, Undiscovered, aims to bring new, high quality artwork to the foreground.
Finding Hidden Gems
Undiscovered focuses on recently submitted artwork that has not yet drawn attention or recognition at the levels of Popular or What's Hot browse modes. Using an algorithm that identifies patterns in community behavior when curating content, Undiscovered generates a browsing experience that draws attention to creative art and talented artists that may not receive the same level of attention from other browse modes.
Please keep in mind that the algorithm that powers Undiscovered is still new and we may make changes as it grows in use.

For starters, you don't even have to have expensive flash. You could use any lamp that you can easily move around, to give a bit of light into your mini studio. You also need a couple of sheets of card or paper, and a cardboard box. The sizing is completely up to you and up to the size of the o

And agonizing for the contestants. But agonizing in the good way. Like the Red M&M in that commercial. The problem is, I have no idea what to say. I write better when I'm not hungry. There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recently worked on “Wreck It Ralph,” and has become active in the story department, where he dreams up fresh narratives and new characters with fellow Story Artists and Disney directors.
But more and more, he is being recognized for his own style and own creations

5 Reasons you should learn photography manually!I once met someone who was determined not to use a D-SLR until he had mastered a Manual Camera first. I thought he was a bit stuck up, maybe a little arrogant of his own abilities too...but actually, he was right. You will not truly value Photography until you go right back to basics and learn how the legendary pros did it first. So here are five top reasons why you should teach yourself photography on a manual camera!More Like This
1) It's Cheap
Many people think that Film Photography is expensive. If you're going all out and developing your own photographs rather than taking the to a developer then it might well be expensive! However manual cameras are a dying breed and you can pick up most of the bits and pieces you need to get started, quite cheaply.
2) Manual Focus
It's the simplest reason, but it's so true. Manual Focus will save your life. Learning how to focus your camera the hard way will make

I know there are many art publications out there but i hope this zine will be fresh and vivid and push boundaries. The magazine will be heavily focused on the artwork, showcasing talent from a broad spectrum of mediums. But will also include much much more!
The themes will hopefully push contributing artists in new directions and allow the creation of original and edgy works!
Im all about some edge
Im not going to give too much away because this is my little baby now! and all will be revealed in time. It's just beginning but i can't do this on my own!
I am after these roles to be filled.

Sometimes you will see things you don't loveTime for a bit of a rant. You know what I'm totally, utterly and completely sick of? People whining about having their entitled little eyeballs polluted with (gasp!) stuff that isn't to their personal taste while looking at the front page of dA. If you're one of those people, here's a tiny little violin, playing just for you...More Like This
I'm not talking about people who don't want to see Mature Content. That's cool. If it doesn't float your boat, you can filter it out of your dA experience by following the instructions in this FAQ :faq93:

Twelve months ago, I was honoured to be given the responsibility of being a Community Volunteer for the deviantART Related gallery. My experience so far has been amazing; I have met some great people and the passion that the Community Relations team has for deviantART's community is more than I could have imagined.
Earlier this week $Moonbeam13 invited me to join the Community Volunteer Mentor team. I (of course) said yes, as it was an opportunity I would never want to pass down. Being a part of the CR Team has changed me in many ways. As silly as it may sound, I feel like my confidence and leadership skills have flourished over time.
I will continue looking over the deviantART Related gallery. So continue sending those Daily Deviation suggestions my way!
