Let's rememberThe following note is a bit scattered, but I wanted to share some of my memories from Sept 11th. Feel free to share your own experiences below.
Ten years ago today I was standing underneath the vaulting ceiling in Westminster Abby, sketching the face of a marble angel on the tomb of a young woman. His empty, opaque eyes were focused on the upturned face of the girl he was reaching out to. He had a beautiful face. The sculptor had captured a sense of peace in the pale, frozen features, and I wanted very much to capture it. I remember my neck beginning to hurt from looking up when my sister came hurrying up to me. "We have to go," she said urgently. "Dad said something really bad happened in New York." My family found each other and huddled together as my dad briefly explained what had happened. A priest had approached him and, after asking if he was an American, had told him the news. My dad had had to go to a pub down the street in order to watch (the second tower fell as soon as the b
Filipino Artist Noel Cruz Makes HeadlinesARTIST RATING: (10/10)More Like This
With a passion for hand painted miniature celebrity figures stems from my love of portraits, Noel Cruz (*noeling) is known to push boundaries and has never failed to overcome a challenge. "The satisfaction of not only the ability to recreate a person's likeness but to recreate it in lifelike 3D miniature form, like dolls and action figures, is one that I consider immeasurable," he says.
Known mostly for his uncanny repaints of characters from TWILIGHT, Pirates of the Carribean, and Lord of the Rings, Noel continues to impress with each new doll by breathing life into it with his gifted hands, and eye for detail. His memorable works usually go on auction and sell for THOUSANDS of dollars.

Like A Real Author With Pants!Hi, internet! I have a new novella out! It is live! You should read it! It's called "Nine Goblins" and it's under the pen-name "T. Kingfisher."More Like This
It will propagate out to other sites when Smashwords gets around to it, so Nook, Kobo, and (god willing) iBooks versions will be coming soon. (Watch this space! Or Twitter!) If you're impatient, however, you can get an ePub version on Smashwords that will work just fine on an iPad. (Easiest way is to either buy it and e-mail it to yourself, or buy it using the iPad.)
Now, as to what the story is about…well, it's about goblins. And Sings-to-Trees the elf. (Remember him? This takes place before the Elf/Orc thing, though, although it includes most of the text of the short little bit "An Evening With Sings-To-Trees.")
This is a small epic fantasy, if that makes any sense. It is fun<

So I just received this note to my inbox here on DA:
"David you are a blessed young man with TREMENDOUS talent ppl can only hope to aspire to but a spirit that has been hurt by so many ppl over "who you are". If u trusted and believed God like u say you do then trust Him when He says youre sexuality is not okay. u get scared because you dont know howw to"get rid of it" but its a spirit, i garuntee you. A member of a local church i know of had been delivered from that homosexual spirit that plauged Him for years!!! You may think it cant be done but if you believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted Him then there is NOTHING He can't do!!I say this with all the Love in my heart. God wants to bless you and turn you into a message for lost souls all around too^^"
How lovely it is to see that people hid their true thoughts behind compliments and smiley faces...

Yom Kippur - A Day of Soul Searching...I've always been asking myself, what is a more difficult act?More Like This
To ask someone for forgiveness - saying you're sorry, admitting you were wrong? Or is it harder to actually forgive someone when they're asking for your forgiveness - when they're sorry, when you know they've done you wrong?
In both matters it's all about our Ego, and how much it controls us, or rather how much are we in control over it.
Last week was the great holiday of Rosh Hashanah - the begging of the new Hebrew year. For the passed months I've been heaving some serious problems which had a great effect on my health and last week it's gotten really bad. But I have my loving family and my amazing friends to see me through all of this.
Tonight, we mark the holy day of Yom Kippur, - ("The Day of Atonement") - which, to most Jewish people is conceived as the day where we need to suffer in order for God to forgive us for the bad things we've done last year. I don't see it that way at all... I never believed God wants us to s
How To Photograph Your CraftsThe absolute number one cause of rejection of DD suggestions for most Artisan Craft CVs is poor photography. There is nothing worse than seeing an otherwise brilliant piece ruined by a dodgy photo. But even beyond DD acceptance, if you want to people on dA to be able to appreciate your skill you need to be able to show your work off to advantage.More Like This
Sometimes I'll tell a self-suggester that I can't feature their work because of the quality of the photography and they'll inevitably reply, "Oh, I'll have to get a better camera."
Repeat after me: the tools never make the artist.
You don't need a $9000 sewing machine to stitch a dress, you don't need a $1000 stand mixer to bake a cake, and you similarly don't need a top of the range SLR to take a brilliant photograph. It's all in how you take the photo.

I have a fun story to tell you allStorytime!More Like This
So yesterday I went to my town fair with some friends and we ended up not sleeping at all.
So of course in the morning/next day because well... no sleeping, me and my friend Emily went to get coffees for everyone.
We rolled up to the Starbucks and its almost fall so I'm like yearning for a pumpkin spice latte. I knew they wouldn't have one though because its still august so we get to the order station and the barista with this super suave voice comes through and I'm just like
"oh yes, can I get a vanilla spice latte?" and the guy is like ooh sorry, we don't have that anymore! But we do have pumpkin spice.
I made a total commotion and when I finally settled down I was all calm like "Heck yes I would like a pumpkin spice."
He started laughing and we ordered the rest of the drinks and he asked if I wanted him to name the cups so I wouldn't get confused. I was feeling really good so I did the stupidest possible thing and was just like "This is the FO of the starship Enterprise."
Two Years?"Mom's hinting at the kids subject again," I typed as I settled back into my computer chair in my cozy little apartment. I had just returned from a Mother's Day weekend visit to TX. It was great to see Mom and to pet my dog again, and I had a ton of tasty food as usual. To my frustration, however, by day 2, the conversations between mom and I drifted from shopping and food to... children. Again.More Like This
"I told her I don't know if I'd ever actually want children. She just wouldn't understand. She wouldn't stop going on about how great it is to be a parent." I continued typing.
"Well, it shouldn't feel like a burden." My husband, working away from home, typed back, "I mean, at some point you feel ready for the responsibility. Actually, I'm a lot readier now than I felt 10 years ago. Of course, I want you to be happy. Maybe you'll feel ready one day, and it's totally okay if you don't."
I blinked. We have talked about whethe

Review of the Yiynova MSP19U tablet monitorI love it.More Like This
Last week I purchased a Yiynova MSP19U, a 19″ pressure-sensitive tablet monitor. After the fantastic review by Frenden this tablet monitor has gotten a lot of internet attention. Wacom has utterly dominated the field, leaving little room for competitors. But there's a new kid on the block.
The MSP19U is a worthy competitor. It's not perfect. But it's darn good.
It's not the greatest presentation. If you're looking for a slick, Apple-like packaging… look elsewhere. All you'll get here is simple instructions with more Engrish than you can shake a stick at.
The device itself is great. It's sturdy, well-constructed and has a nice screen on it. It's more lightweight and portable than any Cintiq I've used. I was quite comfortable sitting on my bed with this thing in my lap. I'm pretty sure a Cintiq would have crushed my pelvis.
I like the colors better than any Cintiq I've used. I've found Cintiqs to have unusually dull colors (even when calibrated). Th
