Arguably the most beautiful and impressive waterfall I've ever seen, Aldeyjarfoss is even more impressive in its frozen winter clothing, and this image doesn't begin to do it justice. In winter, it is reachable only by super jeeps, but making the effort to get there was definitely worth the hardship.
The 20-meter-high waterfall is part of the river Skjálfandafljót, and is famous for its hexagonal basalt columns, belonging to the Suðurárhraun lava field.
We will be visiting Aldeyjarfoss on a wild super-jeep ride during my upcoming 'Winter Paradise' workshop.

If you'd like to experience and shoot these awesome locations under my dedicated guidance, please check out my upcoming 'Land of Ice' (south Iceland) and 'Winter Paradise' (northern Iceland) photography workshops next January!

Lake Mackenzie
New Zealand

First of all, sorry for the lack of posting but Marianne, Charlotte and I were busy preparing and then finally enjoying our trip in New Zealand from which we just returned. About this shot.....

The location is 13km into the Routeburn track from the Divide in Fiordland National Park. The conditions when I started the trek could only be described as wet.......pouring rain, small rivers became streams to splash across along the trail, little visibility, a roaring 174m waterfall (Earland falls) requiring a detour at its base. All of us who arrived at the Lake Mackenzie hut that evening were sodden through despite our waterproof gear. As such, it was hard to get the motivation to sit lakeside at sunset, but the rain had stopped as we arrived so a little hope turned into smiles as this scene evolved over the still green waters of the lake. A moment to savour ! ps. Charlotte and Marianne were down in Milford sound enjoying similarly spectacular conditions!

A special place, my happy place. A very special place for which no words are quite adequate. New England National Park is simply incredible, and very prehistoric. The whole forest is full of magic, and through this image I feel that I have captured the true essence of this epic national park. It takes quite a while exploring the tracks, but to see this kind of magic you have to get off the beaten track and rough it into the heart of the forest.

Some words...

EXIF : CANON EOS5D / 17-40mm - 17mm, f16, 1/200+ 1/20+ 2s exposures, 50 ISO

English version follows

This image, I have to confess has not been simple to produce. I like to place art before technics but it means a lot of work after to achieve the result. This image is not fake, all was really there at the shoot, the reflect included.

"We live on a hunk of rock and metal that circles a humdrum star that is one of 400 billion other stars that make up the Milky Way Galaxy which is one of billions of other galaxies which make up a universe which may be one of a very large number, perhaps an infinite number, of other universes. That is a perspective on human life and our culture that is well worth pondering."

I shot this sunset pano at the Praia da Cordoama, near Vila do Bispo and Sagres in Portugal.

I really love this coastline, it´s windy and harsh- but with a bit of luck the light get´s really wonderful :)

This image for me is special- it was shot at christmas 2012, after getting this shot we went on and had a great evening.
Sometimes everything goes the way it goes :)

To use filters on Nikons 14-24 2.8 i use the Lucroit system (www.lucroit.com), which is really great- to get the full potential from this lovely lens.

Planning the trip to the Iberian Peninsula for this year I talked to ~emats about whether we had some shots from last year that we for any reason did not edit yet, so I browsed through the shots again and found this piece. It was our first evening at the Almograve and it was rather warm even during the sundown so we went barefoot through the dunes down to this beach which was a little further away from the rest of the more known beaches of the area since we had scouted beforehand that there were some interesting rocks and even a little creek. Although it was quite though to decided what composition I wanted to go for during this low tide since there was so much to take into consideration the little brook somehow felt like a more interesting foreground than the sandy beach with a couple of stones swept in by the surge. I'm pretty content with the composition at hand. Also I tried to try a little different approach for the editing going for a colder white balance since the water was indeed still pretty cold and the colors weren't really warm to begin with. I hope you like the outcome.

Sunrise at lake Plastira in central Greece.

This shot is from the trip we took with Maria (~justeline) in the beginning of November. Lake Plastira is an artificial lake formed in the beginning of 1960 in order to provide a water supply to the farmers in the plains. It rests at an elevation of 750m at the south east part of Pindos mountain range. Needless to say it is a wonderful place to visit.

It was the turn of the engineer *Alex37 and the opportunist to embark on another photographic mission. This time to the mountains of Snowdonia. We decided to spend the night 650m up the Glyderau mountains in quest of some spectacular scenery. We spent the night a further 350m up on the summit before making are way back down to the camp in the dark. We woke at 4.20am and looked to the east. Realising a slither of clear sky under the cloud, we took of in search of compositions. The sky just got better and better, red light hitting every cloud in the sky. (by this point I was running through bog with my eyes still closed) I found this pool much further away from where Alex was shooting whilst searching for a small stream I stumbled across the afternoon before and I couldn't help myself and with such a view of Tryfan it all came together.

I was out shooting some panoramas of the local beaches for the real estate agent this afternoon (my new job by the way) when suddenly the conditions turned epic. Right on sunset a rainbow broke through the clouds over the ocean. This was just before the rainbow. Those shots yet to come :)

This was one hell of a cloud....i had the pleasure of shooting it for a while before it went away. Really strong wind blurred out the foreground grass so i had to do a separate exposure of the grass with a higher iso setting.

The sun is behind that cloud..really low and glowing. Created an effect that made it look like lightning inside the cloud...Nature really knows how to put on a show..

Hope you enjoy it, cause i had a great time shooting it :-)

"The Call" | Rio Tinto, Spain

"When the light calls, you just need to be there, ready to absorb the photons and capture beauty. This was one of those days."

José Ramos © http:/www.facebook.com/joseramosphotography

Photo made in the fantastic landscape of Rio Tinto Mining Park, in Spain. I had spent the weekend in Seville and, when returning home I was looking forward to find good landscapes nearby. As such, following the advice of a friend, I went to Rio Tinto in a hurry, eager to get some good shots. Unfortunately I left Seville late, and there were only about two hours left before sunset. I was almost quitting my search, when I suddenly found this absolutely gorgeous place, which just made my jaw drop! Needless to say I stayed there until it was completely dark, surrounded by hungry mosquitos! But it was worth it...

Durin my trip on Quiberon Island I have discovered during the afternoon a small beach totally enclosed in a cliff landscape. The angle of the sun in the evening should be ideal then I came back at the sunset to shoot this waterscape. It was not easy to get down to the small beach cause the path was not accessible at high tide then I have decided to get there at low tide and wait for the water to mount. At high tide the beach was reduced to some meters. I was lucky at the end to find a way to get back on the cliff !
To realize this image I have shooted three different exposures for the beach, the sky and the cliffs.

The Photo

Another shot from the session I did the other week on the South West coast of Portugal. This was the last shot of the night, 30 minutes after the sun had set...and I'm amazed it worked out to be honest..there was so much spray in the air that I didn't think it was worth trying anything longer than a couple of seconds.

One can't simply elude the fascination of the beach near the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón, despite the numerous photographs that exist of this location. This morning`s sunrise was nothing short of spectacular. The dark clouds of the vanishing night opened up and revealed the view to one of the most colourful sunset I've seen so far in Iceland.

Bombo Quarry, Kiama.

Finally after more than a year of dreaming of this shot I now have it.

As I embarked on the 2 hour drive I was unawed by the cloudless sky, although the forecast was for rain, but none the less was committed to at least scout the location. To my pleasure an endearing blanket of cloud emerged during the commute and by the time I arrived I knew something was on the cusp; briskly I readied myself and started the walk.

It's always tricky navigating unexplored coast at 4am but I made it to 'the spot' and was even greeted by a fox who seemed to be gallivanting through the vegetation that lined the quarry. As I experienced the scene unfold I couldn't help but think could this be any better.. probably not I casually though ecstatically dismissed.

Isle of Skye, UK
Autumn 2012

With the aim of shooting some Scottish Landscapes in dynamic weather I started my trip to Great Britain in mid-November and traveled for about 5 weeks trough the country. My journey took me from the south coast of England via Northumberland to Scotland. In Scotland I traveled from the Isle of Skye to Caithness, Torridon and Assynt. As expected the weather conditions were very contrary (snow, sun, storm, rain). The exposed position at the Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the unpredictable weather in western Scotland. Often it’s possible to experience several seasons within one day. Although it often wasn’t very easy to keep my camera dry, I was rewarded with a variety of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

In the second part of my UK-series 2013, I present the images of the Isle of Skye. The fascinating hills and the impressive coastline are typical for the Scottish landscape. The weather was as expected at the end of November – very rough. During my ten-day stay there was no day without rain and storm. But in the rare minutes when the sun showed the landscape turned into a fairy tale world and I was spectacular rewarded for the long rainy waiting times. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!
