I enjoyed this scene a lot for its atmosphere.

Sunset 9/1/2012
I just got word that Shutterbug magazine will be featuring this photo. It was also just featured in the "Caffeinated Photographers" facebook group top photos of August 27-September 2nd.

Autumn begins to approach on the first day of September at St. Vrain State Park in Lingmont Colorado as the trees start to slowly turn colors creating a gorgeous scene at sunset against the twin sister peaks of Longs Peak and Mount Meeker. The light was utterly surreal against the storm clouds and Verga (rain which evaporates before hitting the ground) For this photograph I decided to use a Minolta 70-2100mm F4 lens backed up by a circular polarizer and Tobacco Grad ND to hold back the sky. It was also photographed using my Sony A550's ability to shoot HDR in camera to make sure I would get the subtle detail in the foreground with the highlights and darks. Fall is now officially in the air and I am loving it!

This was my first visit to Llyn y Caseg Fraith and I will certainly be returning. It is a fabulous location on a mountain ridge just below Glyder Fach in Snowdonia. I came here on a workshop, wild camping with a man from Paris. Whilst I tried to convince him to stay out for dusk it was bitterly cold in the wind and he decided to retreat to the tent. Seeing the Cats Paws (ripples) in the pool I hoped they would provide an interesting foreground texture. I took a number of images until I had the look I was after.

Llyn Y Caseg Fraith is perched on the edge of a ridge with fantastic views to Glyder Fach and across to Tryfan. The pools in the area are fascinating; the inner walls drop vertically by two feet or so to a dark lifeless base. In the right light they appear almost black.

As the morning began it was clear that there was no prospect of a sunrise, but occasional gaps in the cloud gave hope. Long after sunrise there was a burst of light that lasted perhaps a minute and coincided with a slight lift in the cloud level. Tryfan and Glyder Fach were still in shadow and appear almost black in comparison to the sunlit grass on the edge of the pool. Lighting doesn't get better than this!

I will be returning to Llyn y Caseg Fraith sometime soon to see what else the location can provide.

This boat was left stranded on the shore during a bad storm some time ago. The tide has never been high enough since to re-float the boat so it remains stuck on land rotting away. It is near Corpach, across the water from Fort William in the Scottish Highlands and you can see Ben Nevis in the background.
I have now discovered the boat is called the MV (Merchant Vessel) Dayspring and here is a link to it's website with a little of it's history mvdayspring.co.uk/  unfortunately since posting this the website seems to have stopped working. I will leave the link just incase it re-activates as it was very interesting to look at.
This last note re the website was the update.

Weekly Recap 03For the duration of my 40 Day Photo Challenge, I've decided I'll do a weekly recap of the photos I've taken, what happened this week, and other various things. Heart
Photos from this week

This week I was dealing with artist block. When I started this challenge, it never even crossed my mind that at some point during the challenge, I would get artist block. I feel like it really reflected in my photos this week. And that sucks.
Luckily, I've worked my way out of that yesterday and I'm really looking forward to this week and getting back on track of taking photos that are actually good. ;)
I had a couple of outings planned but as of yeste

Each time I visit Mt. Rainier, I can't get over how unspoiled, how pure it looks, feels, and smells. It's a truly mesmerizing place, full of life and seeming to have a soul all its own. So it was no surprise to me that the word "Narada" has roots in spirituality. I won't get into that, as there are many differing beliefs on the matter and the origin of the word. What I will say is that I believe that everyone who has ever laid eyes on this fall must have felt its powerful captivation. Though it's a heavily visited fall (which is sometimes a deterrent for my spending too much time there), it didn't take away from the magic for me.

A week or so ago I went on a photo shoot in the Black Hills with my cousin :iconblkchrrydesigns: Deborah. She was up from Colorado for the fourth of July with her kids and grandkids (:omg:) and her mother and wanted to go shooting with me in the hills. We went to Spearfish Canyon and spent a cool afternoon photographing waterfalls and wildflowers before heading back to Sturgis where Deb was going to catch a ride with her mother who was returning from a day with the great grandkidlets and grandkidlets (and my aunt was nearing nuclear fusion level from dealing with kids by the time she arrived :iconatombombplz:).

While we waited Deb and I chased rainbows from a passing storm out near the Full Throttle Saloon and then went back into Sturgis to meet up with Deb's mother. After goodbye's were said, I went back out east and north of Sturgis to Bear Butte Lake as there was a fantastic sunset happening, but by the time I got there the best color was fading and a storm brewing. I tried for some lightning, but was unable to capture any (nothing new there this year ) so I settled for trying for a long exposure or clouds and water. Here is the result for your viewing (hopefully) pleasure. Thanks for looking!

Oh, if you get a chance, pop over to Deborah's page and say hi--have a look around and fav what you like :gallery:

"Galactic Windmill" The weather has been pretty rubbish for star shooting here lately but I figure if you just keep trying eventually your stars shall align (pun intended Giggle) and you'll finally capture some magic... last night was one of those moments when the night was absolutely perfectly clear but when got to the original place I intended to shoot the fog was so thick you could have carved chunks out of it with a knife or taken a spoon and eaten it like ice cream... I was pretty disappointed but rather than giving up and admitting defeat I decided to drive around for a bit and see if I could find a patch of thinner fog, I had almost given up hope when a light breeze kicked up and started dissipating the fog in a cow paddock that had an old windmill in it and I managed to capture a handful of great shots before the fog closed in on me again. And the moral of the story is that I'm really glad I decided to stick around and wait to see if the conditions would get better because it was so worth it =D

Two paths. Which one will you choose? Right one, which is very interesting at the moment, but uncertain at the same time, it will melt by time and you can see the end of it, or the left one, the asphalt, the secure road which you can't see the end.. he will lead you to the clouds?
A little philosophical question of me :D
