There it is again, that horrible sound that pervades every inch of life in this city. We are a society built around one of the largest and strangest clocks in the entire world. This place appears to be a paradise to the rest of the world. All energy is produced by the giant clock that we built out town upon. Our cars are charged by it, the lights in the homes operate from it, even our sidewalks move because of that power. There is no pollution and all manual labor is automated with small clockwork machines that are recharged from the main spring. A utopia, with a horrid secret.
My name's John, I was born and raised to become a technician on the main spring. Every day of my life has been devoted to learning how the clock operates and what to do if something might be out of place. However she had underestimated the weather and when she had emerged from the gaping hole in the mountain, covered in blood, it had been pouring rain. Not wanting to spend a chilly night in the mine she decided to run as fast as she could to reach the mansion.
Leaping up the stairs she skidded to a halt once she reached the veranda. Now under cover she began to squeeze her drenched clothes to dry them as best she could. Hearing the rumble of Thunder she reflected that it was good that she decided to get back to the mansion rather than waiting it out in the mine.
Looks like it’s going to be a storm tonight, she thought as she opened the door as stepped into the dimly lit hallway.
