Update: Due to popular demand I've make this into a separate print, I have 10 available left over from conventions, if you are interested please go HERE ( print avilable) , Thank you : )

Thank you guys for all the comments and favs! I hope I can create something even more intense in the future.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "1000 Words" was inspired by a comment on one of my other work "Tape it Back Together" . In the comment, this person told me when she first saw the drawing, she thought it was sad but couldn't connect with the situation. Three months later, her parents divorced and when she saw the drawing again, she began to sob. It made me wonder, had she shown something like the torn up picture to her parents, would it have made a difference?
This story also explores the purpose of art, what can be art, and what art means to me personally.
So these are really the only brushes I use, period. I barely, ever, use custom weird funky brushes unless its for design purpose. I find this collection achieves exactly what I want, and haven't searched elsewhere. It's like my Holy Grail so I figured all of you digi painters could use them as well!
Now you might be like "Why such a small list?" I don't mean this in an arrogant way , but I can really achieve any feeling I want with these brushes, just get used to them, play with it and it'll work out! They did for me.
I have a run down below on what each brush is used for in a painting:
Standard Brush: This is what I use to drop my basic colors when quickly slapping down what I want. I seldom use it for actual detailing, but if I need to block in thick patches I'll use this brush.
Detailing Painting Brush: My favorite brush next to the fur brush. This one is simply used to get those nooks and crannies. If I were to use the brush above for 25% of the painting, this would be the other 75%.
Lighting Brush You know all those lens flares, over bright lights, shiny glowing areas I do? This is the brush. Use it softly and you'll achieve a nice bloom in your lighting.
Detailing Lighting Brush For tinier spots, harder lighting areas.
Texture Brush: I use this brush mostly for pores, dabbles on the skin, bumpy surfaces, or just to give texture to skin in general. Works like a charm.
Hair Brush/Smudge Brush Pretty Self Explanatory. Do I start off painting hair with this brush? No, I use the Standard Painting Brush then I go over it with this brush to create the strands/etc. As for the smudging, this is my ideal color mixer when I need to blend tones, acts like a bristle brush and merges all those nice colors together to create a creamy feel.
Chalk Brush: I use this for clouds sometimes, smoke, or just patching in colors. Works better than I can explain.
Hard Ink Brush: This I use rarely, but when I do use it, it really helps. Usually for adding glare, or tight highlights on certian objects to make them pop. Like the girls earring.
Texture Brush # 2 : This one I use a lot to get nice pores, that sweaty look or just overall skin texture.
Cloud Brush #1-3: Used to paint clouds, nuff' said.
Abrams Lighting Brush: I love this brush. In my "INSIDE THE BEAST" image, all those lighting effects you guys talked about were used with this brush.
Speckle Brush: Used for skin again, or to dirty something up.
Debris Brush: Need to create dirt flying? Tiny bumps on a sexy leg? This is it sucka.
Fur Brush: UNF! My favorite brush. I use this for skin, fur, cloth, metal, sparks, debris, glass, anything. It's a hard shell to crack, but once you do..it's a GREAT brush.
Pore Brush: Literally my 489474th brush used for skin/pores.
Glass Brush: Used to create shattered glass, papers flying, etc.
Also, all I ask is if you download them, I don't expect any credit. But at least fav the pack, so they can be seen by more users.
2014 update: This is quite old but hopefully may still be helpful! Remember to reference a bunch of different tutorials. I honestly didn't know a whole lot when I made this so it's very surface level. BUT if it's any help I'm very glad! Now go study from some photos and such! Also, recommended reading is James Gurney "Color and Light".
Due to popular demand.... here's a shading tutorial!
-This is just one guide! There are many other useful tutorials out there that go into more detail about certain points! -Remember to learn about shading and lighting from photos and not just from art and tutorials. Don't copy other people's mistakes! -I am not by any means a master of any of this... remember that you're the one choosing to follow my tutorial, if you do haha!
With that said.... ENJOY!
Also, I've created a Supplement: And please view part two! OLD Tutorial on Multiply Layers:
So this is my very first attempt using prismacolor pencils! I'm so excited! It probably could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse too. Rikku is just sort of a bright and cheery person so she seemed perfect to experiment my colored pencils on. Lots of fun! I think I want to try to do more with color now! Any suggestions? Ooh, ooh! I know, Lightning? Nothing says color like pink hair! ^.^
Anyway, I think this took me about 8 to 9 hours? That's becoming a new average for me, though I didn't time it -.-
I seriously love how smooth prismacolor pencils are. Definitely recommend them.
Also got some new canvases and I'm going to make an attempt at painting once more. Also, I think I want to try a digital painting of Korra. I know it seems like everyone draws Korra, but I seriously want to give it a shot.
My lovely Oc puddle :33 a special somone picked him up and gave him some clothes for cold but beautiful time of the year >w< (he looks like a hipster lol his ears and his tail r under his clothes lol and ye its his first christmas, but also for the other person >w< SECREEEEEEEEETSSS
Yeah... I hope you like it!
--LOOKING BACK ON IT HOLY FIRKING SCHNIT!! THIS IS SO POPULAR!!! Well, when compared to my other stuff... I am beyond happy. I am so not used to my drawings being so well-recieved. It's even in a group now! Thank you everybody. You are awesome.
----LOOKING BACK ON IT AGAIN Whoa. Seriously. Nine groups... you have NO idea how amazing that is for me. Especially since, in my own personal opinion, it doesn't even look very good. Thanks anyway, guys~
so finally, after having my drawings recovered by a computer specialist, I'm able to upload the Secret Santa for 8D I'm so happy that my files hadn't been destroyed and that this drawing hadn't been deleted, I worked really hard on that one ID° so from Saki-Kisu's wishlist I chose Hatsune Miku (Love is War) I drew the lines traditionally with a mulltiliner and did the coloring with photoshop elements. I experimented much on the bg, so in the end it turned out like this. The textures are from dA well, I hope you like your secret santa, Saki-Kisu :3
I was already working on this when I posted the WIP of Len:
Thought I would post this one too I will upload a finished and clean version eventually. Next I would like to do Miku Again, many many thanks to the awesome artist who made the original this is based on:
Look! another batch. It's been a while and I only did 7 for this group. So here we have fennekin, kadabra, furret, hydreigon, charizard, dragonite and noivern. yep, did two gen 6 pokemon. noivern was a bit of a challenge along with hydreigon. And yes, kadabra is using psychic on the spoon.
She is cute, too bad she has the ribbon.... yeah whatever, also don't comment my eyes are wrong, yes it is wrong, but i draw what i think will make her look cuddly for me~ Enjoy~ Oh yeah, Ipad wallpaper sized, no watermark for the sake of your eyes, but remember to not reupload without credit~ thanks before
I can't draw curly hair. Bleh. I haven't drawn Canada in awhile, and I tried adapting him to my style. I also tried drawing his glasses round, as I usually draw them square. Weird style is weird. I'm going to draw my new android OC next, but if you guys have any requests for Hetalia characters for me to draw, I'll do it. (But it'll be a head-shot like this one and the Prussia one.) This would've been up two days ago if I stopped nitpicking over the details and just uploaded it.
About the Photo: Inspired by Cloud Strife's Omnislash animation from FFVII Advent and Ragnarok Online's Gunslinger skill -- Desperado, I came up with this set.
~yefa suggested lots of poses she got from the net but I told her I want a different output for this one. So there, it end up like this~
This is the first time I tried adding mystery stuff on my shot -- since I'm watching Hyouka too much
This is a "Slow Shutter Action Shot"
***no photo manipulation here -- because I don't know how and I suck when I'm doing one.
Yeah I called it Slow-shutter because its below 1/60 (regular bulb's frequency -- 60Hz). I don't really know what's the basis of others when they call their setup Slow-shutter but for me, 1/25 is already a slow one. And taking action shot, I usually set my shutter to 1/100+++.
Anyway going back, I set my shutter that way to absorb colors and light -- since its already dark and my aperture is in the lowest value already. My camera body is Canon 1000D and I don't have that "vivid" settings like Nikon Entry Level camera does --- I am aiming for the sky similar to this one "[link]". But it didn't work out because its already too late. OTL
About the angle, I took the low-angle approach with an UWA lens to make ~yefa looks taller/longer (I really love the distortion of this lens )
Light setup, this was a three-light setup: - orange gel at my left - blue gel at my right - shoot-through umbrella as main light
Preparation, Production and the Shoot: This is my first organized, full production shoot for this year -- It means that I supervised everything from planning, wig selection, how the costume be made, location hunting, set, down to the post-processing of the photo.
This shoot kept me stressed-up the whole month of August because of the cost (sponsoring the wig, details of costume, props, etc for my Commander ~yefa, and buying a new lens for that specific shot that I wanted (UWA) -- which I found useless in the end), planning, production (props making like extra mags and bullets -- which I was able to complete few hours before the shoot), and location hunting (almost cancelled the shoot because the location we are suppose to shoot is still on "for-approval status").
With props, costume, wig, gears prepared, still, some DARK AURA managed to sabotage the shoot. A lot of delays happened during the day of the shoot. I am supposed to get the dark blue sky of 6-7pm but yeah -- Congratulations to that DARK AURA we end up shooting at 10:30PM for only 30mins. XD
Imagine shooting without seeing the frame. No flashlights or anything -- its really dark XD
**still with very few shots, I really love the output. **this is my pilot Entry for Cosplay Snapshot Project 3
we will be having a Re-shoot of this by December with the rest of the casts +_+
: YOU'RE ALMOST BARE CHESTED! Zip it uuuup~~!!! : N-no way! ...I-I-I'm going to pull it down again... w-when YOU're not around!! : You...! Don't force me to stick with you, the whole day!
----------------------------------------------------------- Kaito's "Genius" module and Meiko's "Whistle" module, in Project DIVA f. (>w< ) Too bad, instead of getting a sport-theme module like the others, Kaito got this school doctor like -- the one who stays on infirmary. (._. )
But well, that lab coat is kinda... *cough* (^p^) Okay, Kaito you win! You look good on anything. (owo)/
Based on Miwa Shirow artwork, which I got from here Here's scan used:[link]
Made this wall 2,5 years ago, but it's still one of my favorites. When I started iot at first I had no idea how it'll turn out, but then I started throwing in some Korn lyrics, and finished up with idea to throw in LOTS of Korn lyrics
Splatter on bg was made using this [link] Objects around character were vectored from photos that came mostly from sxc and google.images.
