Another portrait, yeah! =)
I am quite pleased with this one, considering that one year ago I had no idea how to even start a portrait painting. The hair still looks like spaghetti, but I will be working on it!

Thank to SunnySanki for the photo: new hair/again

Confusion Machine

2013 - 24" x 20" - oil on canvas

This began as a vertical flat and oddly-colored abstract. It became stale and after trying new methods I turned it into a silvery, cubist-inspired industrial/modern abstract.

SOLD.

Wake.. from your sleep
The drying of your tears
Today we escape, we escape

Pack.. and get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before all hell breaks loose

Breathe, keep breathing
Don't lose your nerve
Breathe, keep breathing
I can't do this alone

Sing.. us a song
A song to keep us warm
There's such a chill, such a chill

You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope your rules and wisdom choke you
Now we are one in everlasting peace

We hope that you choke, that you choke
....

You may recall my two latest polls - one was about an artbook of mine, in the other I asked about your favourite fairy tales. I'm sure that plenty of you combined these two together. I'm going to paint a serie of illustrations for the Beauty and the Beast.

The watercolour masking fluid is heaven for the work, but hell for the nose.

Pencil and watercolour on two 16 x 23.5 cm watercolour papers.
Pencil versions of these two illustrations can be seen on my tumblr, here and here.

Soundtrack: Joe Hisaishi - The Sixth Station
You can also read what the atmosphere around me was like when I was painting the second picture.

Came up the idea of a gothic themed Frankenstein monster guard. Armed with a rifle and stitched together with crude science, they have bolts in there necks and have wires hooked up to there brains to make them do there masters bidding stalking through the dark corridors of the ancient castle.

went with a Stephen Gammell Inspired look for this one.

Late at night after you've turned out the lights and snuggled into bed, you feel the strange sensation of something watching you. You look over to see a small ghost silently floating above your dresser peering at you through dark black holes where it's eyes used to be.

This illustration scared the living crap out of me for YEARS. I mean all the illustrations are absolutely horrifying, but something about this one really filled me with dread as a child. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the old Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books! These were short stories from folklore and history written by Alvin Schwartz, but people mostly remember them for their terrifying illustrations done by the impeccable Stephen Gammell.

Mr. Gammell has always been and continues to be a huge source of inspiration for me and this was an absolute labor of love trying to faithfully recreate one of his illustrations in 3D.

This depicts a strange girl eating a bowl of... something. I am not even sure what it is myself even though I came up with it. The title stems from the way that people often talk about how much they love "mama's good ol' home cookin'," even though, I always personally thought that a lot of my own mother's food was disgusting, and yet she just loved to cook. As with most of my works, this one was inspired largley by Stephen Gammell. The medium was No. 2 lead graphite (a mechanical pencil to be precise) on computer printing paper.

sorry, but there didn't seem to be quite the right category for this...

the painted version of my photo fying free: [link] as you can see, rather different but at the time very similar :D i severely depleted by white oil paint painting this, but i'm very pleased with it.

those who watch me and are perhaps wondering, no this is not the final choice from your suggestions to my journal: [link] since i haven't actually decided yet and none of you suggested this one anyways. still open for suggestions by the way, hint hint...

i plan to eventually get a better photo of this.

First illustration for Hansel and Gretel.
I wanted to be quite ominous from the beginning.
The classic fairytales are very straight, there was almost no time for setting the atmosphere, but I wanted to make a kind of portrait of the kids before the action began.
