The taste was not bitter or aged. It was not sweetened, or burned. Nor was it warm and familiar, loose from his own or some unimportant rabble.
It was... in between. Something sweet, but with a bitter aftertaste. Foreign, yet vaguely familiar.
Slowly but surely his tongue snaked past the small of the line his frail jaw had allowed him to open, scraping against the dagger-tipped corruption of his fangs.
